Savoie was the best player in the tournament. You can debate Rosen if you like. Savoie was one of their top camp performers last year too. Savoie has the speed Benson does not. I think he will slot perfectly in VO's spot.

Savoie is one inch smaller than Benson and heavier. Gerbe style, good for checking.
We will disagree about the whole best at rookie tournament.
Benson has the smarts to make up for the speed. And I don't think it's a matter of size when being able to take the physicality of the NHL ... Savoie couldn't hack it in AHL last year granted only couple games but he didn't look like he belonged. He also seems to have shoulder issues.

I think we will see him eventually and we will be able to make determination but like I said I don't have high hopes.

That clutch and grab interference fest of a series you call hockey? I don't think anyone can acclimate in that atmosphere. Shoulder issue is valid. I still expect him to be a stud unless injuries remain an issue.

It will be tough, cause Tampa had a crap start too and they re always a handful, but yeah nobody likes VO I guess.
do they even have enough roster spots to sit VO with the the 3 goalies?
Jost is the only option unless they go 11-7 with Bryson

If Greenway actually started to take his career seriously then he can be quite the player. Just think that by the time he figures that out he will be too old for it to make any difference.
So far so good.

Granato had him at the NTDP, as you may be aware. He probably knows what buttons to push with Greenway.

You saw him plenty on the Wild. What specifically do you mean about taking his career seriously?

Poor practice and lifestyle habits, which led to inconsistent on ice efforts. Not a bad guy, but just kind of a big, goofy kid who got by in lower levels because of his size. As you guys have probably figured out, he is not just big, but extraordinarily strong, and actually has some skill.

What's the latest on the 3 headed goalie situation? Does Levi continue to have the net this week or are we expecting to see Comrie or UPL step in?

You expect the clutch and grab to.disappear up here? Did u miss our first 2 games?

Looks like Levi on Tuesday ... rest of the week is tbd

He looks leaner this year... I wasn't impressed last year but he has looked pretty engaged this year.

This is why the NHL will always be a sporting backwater. In the 90's when teams like the Pistons and Knicks popularized uglyball that was awful to watch and ratings poison the NBA responded by essentially legislating that style out of the league. This is why a Wizards-Timberwolves preseason game would generally get higher ratings than almost any non cup finals NHL broadcast.

Really need some more games to play soon, to knock off some fears.

Fear that this is another no expectation season

Fear that the league figured tage out, particularly on the pp.

Fear that Cozens got his bag too soon.

Fear that Olofsson has infinite rope.

Need more games…

These are actually pretty close to what I had. I would've gone with these lines, though:

Skinner-Tage-Tuch
Peterka-Cozens-Mitts
Greenway-Krebs-Benson
Girgs-Jost-Okoposo

I mean...I wouldn't hate it.

I'm not sure he's conclusively better than any of our current 3. He's just different. Might be better, might be worse.

Certainly wouldn't give up anything of value for him.

Swap UPL for Vladar straight up? Sure, why not...........but Calgary wants to unload cap and free up a spot for Wolf. They're not taking UPL or Comrie back.

That is where this idea falls apart.

If the Sabres were to add Vladar, they would need to make at least one other trade to move UPL or Comrie since just waiving one down to Rochester causes other issues as the Sabres already have 5 goalies signed to NHL deals (Levi, UPL, Comrie, Cooley, and Tokarski) and one signed to an AHL/ECHL deal (Houser).

I cannot see them rolling with 6 goalies on NHL deals plus Houser. 3 goalies in Buffalo AND Rochester is not ideal.

And just like they tried to move VO and it was hard to find any takers due to a lack of cap space around the league, moving Comrie or UPL likely has the same issue. UPL is the easier one to move. But even he might be hard to move right now. Calgary wanting to move Vladar and not finding a taker just shows how hard it is to move a goalie right now.

The Sabres aren’t trading for a goalie. Maybe, if another team needs a goalie, we will trade UPL or Comrie and maybe at some point they would waive one of them. But the Sabres like their goalies. It is clear from the start of the year that the intention is for Levi to start 50+ games. UPL and Comrie are backups and are not worse than the backup goalies on many NHL teams.

Three goalies are a problem, they can’t let the same Savoie play without sending Olofsson to Rochester. Then one of the goalies will be without match practice for a very long time and will become rusty. The bet is on Levi and perhaps one of the goalies will be traded soon.

Through 3 games.

Olofsson.

Other weak links.

Okposo - Slow. He looked fully cooked last season.

Krebs - Love his spunk. But he brings very little else. There's still time for him to turn it around, but at the moment he seems like the high end prospect least likely to make it long term on this team. If he keeps playing this way I wouldn't be mad to see him lose his spot in the lineup once Quinn and/or Savoie are healthy.

Okposo had a good game last night.

The opinions on Krebs seem to far exceed what he shows us. Perhaps GM's will think so too and give us good value back.

Not to pile on Krebs since it is early in the year and I think he had a strong defensive 3rd after a wobbly start last night. But does anyone have a grizzled shot suppression 3C-4C target in mind for Krebs and Vic?

Two birds with one stone in thinning the young forward ranks while shedding Vic the anchor and matching salary.

Okposo is capable of having a decent game here and there, but more often than not he looks cooked.

The 60 bad games he'll play this year will outweigh the 20 decent ones. Similar to last season.

I understand that he's basically a place holder at this point and that this is probably his final season, but I still hope he gets pushed out of the lineup sooner rather than later.
