This reminds me of all the clamoring to get rid of Derek Roy...with only Tyler Ennis around to replace him.
Mitts is now Derek Roy

We’d be lucky if mitts produced like Roy did.

With the exception of the year they dealt him Roy out produced mitts ppg career high in 5 straight seasons

The legend grows

Huh?

Roy hit 63 pts the same age Mitts just hit 59. Roy had 81, 70, and 69 pts before dropping off into 30s,

Mitts is obviously not being overhyped. He's just turning a corner on a very average developmental curve, becoming a decent depth C when most teams struggle to have two. When there is only Krebs to turn to in the next couple years, I wouldn't be hoping to trade that depth C unless he takes a step back. This season should tell us where he's at.

We wouldn’t be asking Tyler ennis to play 1c

They’d be asking Matt Savoie to play 14 mins on the third line

Literally the only similarity is that they are forwards who play center. That’s the end of the similarities.
Split hairs all you want. There isn't a better depth C option behind Mitts. No reason to trade him for now.

“Only Krebs”

And btw I jumped in at a discussion of resigning him, not trading him. So either that happened before I got involved or youre projecting.

Ostlund can replace the legend of mitts but Savoie, honey that’s so dear

The legend of big Noah Ostlund begins
So cut the sarcasm and say what you mean. Who do you think is about to be able to replace Mitts either by the end of this season or to start next season. Who should take his role before KA has to make a decision on his next contract?

I don’t think anyone is going to replace him. I never made a comment about trading him. I made a comment on a post about how aggressively you try to resign him. I think he has a dollar value and that dollar value is probably on 4-5 range because on this team he’s depth player. That’s what you pay depth players.

Beyond Mitts? Well if I have an entire free agency period to pick players. A full off season to address the need. There’s probably 90 guys out there capable of playing good third line minutes who can transition to a top 6 for 20 games a season. Depth complimentary players change teams by the dozens every year.

Why I’d artificially constrain myself to krebs I’m not sure. Unless I was trying to pretend I was ace and making an argument about how cheap pegula is.

So why are you giving me a hard time?

This started because a poster said Mitts isn't even worth the 2.5 mil he's making right now. That's pretty off base because there's a long list of players with lesser role and/or lesser production that make more. @MOGlLNY gave a level-headed response to that and you started with your usual sarcasm responding to that post. Now here we are.

So what is there to complain about when someone says Mitts is decent as a depth C and not to move him because there's nobody else ready to replace him?? Just more of the same from you.

You need to stop projecting dude

You made a comparison to Derek Roy that lives in fantasy land. The only people that get the sarcasm are people who make shit arguments. So if you think that’s all I do maybe try better arguments.

Right. There's no comparison to at all. Any comparison that is made must be 100% direct and in line, or else it's a shit argument. You have some self-proclaimed pet-peeve about Mitts because of some made up stuff in your head, and you go about sarcasm-splaining like normal. Go kick your dog or something else.

You could have posted this first -

"I think he has a dollar value and that dollar value is probably on 4-5 range because on this team he’s depth player. That’s what you pay depth players."

Instead you post this first -

"consistent point production for more than 10 games a season?"

and then -

"Those 10 games. The legend of big Zac Mittlestadt."

That's just being sarcastic...and wrong. Oct - 7 pts, Nov - 6, Dec - 6, Jan - 9, Feb - 9, Mar - 9, Apr - 13. Was Mitts actually inconsistent, or was he actually very consistent with lesser players right up until he got top line minutes and went for 13 in 8 games.

You know why you give the sarcasm?

Because it prevents discussions of value getting side tracked by someone trying to say that a discussion from 10 years ago about a player that was widely disliked for his perceived lack of effort, animosity that he wasn’t Danny Briere, coming off his worst season in 8 years, in an organization that was treading water, is similar to wanting to under pay your third line center on a team with 2 centers who produce at a higher volume, who are signed for long term deals.

Derek Roy was a #1 center playing 20 minutes a night with almost a decade of consistent point production on a team whose fan base was looking at the start of a rebuild. Casey Mittlestadt is playing 15 mins night in a depth role on a team coming out of a rebuild and with the exception of 10 games to end last season has been consistently… in the lineup.

They both play center.

Except he wasn't a #1 C all those years, and only had four seasons above 60 pts, and was in the 30s or 40s every other season. You don't like the comparison, fine. Maybe if you just say what you mean to start off, without the lame stuff like "10 game legend Mitts", convos won't go the normal route they do with you.

He only played 8 seasons and 1 of those was 35 points in a lockout shortened 35 games. Here’s some more the other 2 were his rookie season and his second year where he played on the third line with 46p in 70 games. And now to round of my point. When tyler ennis joined the team, which is a requirement for your comparison, he had 69p in 80 games 19+ mins, 35 points in 35 games 19+mins, and the bad season that caused people to want him gone where he still played 19+ mins with 44p in 80 games. In his 8 years with the Sabres he played 18+ mins a night in 6 of them. By contrast thompson plays 18+, drury played 18+, Bergeron played 19+, so he played first line center minutes and played more minutes than tim connolly. Clearly a 1a/1b situation, but he still played the 1a share of the minutes.

Now if you wanna say that mitts and roy have a ton in common up to this point in their careers, ill buy that, might even suggest it myself. But to compare end of career derek roy to rfa casey mittlestadt... cant, we'd be lucky to have the next 5 years of mitts come out like roys did. But Roy got dumped into a first line roll at this point and the team bottomed out and fell apart.

When Quinn and Savoie recover, who comes out of the lineup?
Olofsson unless snd injury occurs.

Benson has 30 days or9 games to decide.

roster moves will be needed.

people blasted me but you could have Savoie activated and thrn play the paper transactions of waiver exempt players of Levi, Peterka, and Krebs ( he loses waiver exemption mid season). Levi not starting he is sent down. When he’s playing thrn Peterka or Krebs is sent down. They could do this with EJ since it’s unlikely a team claims him.

I think you will see the broken nail IR moves.

And no matter what all those stats mean, the bottom line was that after Roy left there was nobody worth a damn to take his minutes. KA will have to make a decision about Mitts, and it won't be about whether to keep him it will be about what kind of contract he'll get, because there won't be anyone else ready to take his minutes.

You were blasted for good reason. Because that will never happen lol

Re: Mittelstadt Role/Replacement

I feel Casey’s role/spot in the lineup will be changing in the next year or so, assuming Cozens develops into a more established matchup role within a top 6 role.

I think Thompson has #1 center spot locked in.

Granato seems to be using the Okposo line and Mittelstadt for some heavy defensive matchup purposes, while the Cozens line has a lighter workload in terms of quality matchups.

IMO, by the time it comes to deciding on what to do with Casey, the organization probably wants to see the roles switched between Cozens and Mittelstadt by the end of the season, where you can now utilize Casey’s line in a lighter workload matchup deployment. This of course leading to seeing Cozens used to shutdown top lines in the league. Opening an opportunity to essentially creating a permanent “Kid line” in your lineup that can see the fruits of your development system take hold. For example, if Rosen grabs the #1 role in Rochester and flourishes, his next step would to be called up and fight for that kid line spot, with no worries of any pressures of matchup issues. So now you have a role/spot that can become utilized smartly financially. You don’t need to worry about paying Mittelstadt $5-$7 million to fill, but using guys on ELCs.

This relies upon everything falling into place with Cozens developing correctly and taking the next step.
