Leading goal scorer since Nov 24th I think with 8 goals. Not bad for a scrub.
I wasn't knocking Kyle. More Granato. They'll call up someone... give them 5 min a game... and basically roll with 3 lines

If they still had Fitz and Clague in the lineup sure. But now... eh.

Amazing to see how the Kings keep turning chicken salad into chicken shit with their prospect pool. Blake is another ex-player who just doesn't seem to have a clue how to retool as a GM.

I think the real lesson here is 'prospect ranking' don't mean jack shit. Especially within 1 or 2 of their draft year.

They also cut bait when it wasn't working out.

They recognized their issues and addressed them.

They will make the playoffs for their 3rd straight year.

Blake is doing a great job rebuilding the team even after can't miss prospect after can't miss prospect missed.

I would challenge you to speak to Kings' fans about their feelings at Blake's competence. The paralysis of his waiver inaction in particular.

I'm sure they have legit complaints. But....imagine if I was talking to a NY Jets fan and complained about McDermott and Beane. They would look at me like I had two heads.

There are legit complaints about Beane and McDermott, sure. But results matter.

Blake is getting the results.

I think they have championship aspirations and see a Gm missing obvious moves.

Sabres fans have playoff aspirations and wonder if there is any sort of competence in the front office at all.

The Kings have made the playoffs three times in the six seasons of Blake's tenure, including getting swept by an expansion team. This isn't 2012 any more.

My concern that you went right past was that the Kings too have had a large collection of well regarded prospects and have turned them into not nearly enough. And that's with some other ex-player type who supposedly knows what they are doing participating in the day to day operation of the team.

It shows you how hard it is to build a team. It makes it that much harder when guys don't want to play for you.

Yes, absolutely try and claim him. He was good as a rookie but lost his spot due to an injury and got stuck in the AHL for 1.5 years and now scratched. Vilardi, Faber, Durzi, Iaffalo, Kupari all looking better after leaving the Kings. If he looks shot after a month or so, put him back on waivers. Might not even be able to tho, looking at Puckpedia, they've got us at 50/50 contracts.

We are 44/50 contracts, Kulich, Ostlund, Savoie, Wahlberg, Komarov are exempt from the 50 SPC

Something like $7 million worth of players in Rochester now? Bryson, Stillman, Comrie, Jost.

And also recently reported that the Sabres have one pro scout. Could these two things be related? I guess we’ll never know.
I guess one of this failed signings cost more than a whole department of pro scouts.
You might start to wonder how Pegula got to his wealth if its that how he does his business.

Buffalo Sabres

Notable additions: Connor Clifton ($3.33 million, three years), Erik Johnson ($3.25 million, one year)

Early return: Buffalo’s decision not to add a high-profile top-four defenseman or address the goaltending situation is aging poorly.

Clifton’s struggled defensively, made big-time mistakes and isn’t top-four capable. He looks overpaid with a $3.33 million cap hit for another two seasons. Johnson doesn’t move the needle at this stage in his career and has averaged just 14:06 per game.

Clifton and Johnson have been the Sabres’ worst play-driving defensemen in terms of controlling five-on-five shot attempts and expected goals, yet they make a combined $6.58 million against the cap.

I don’t know who the next guys (executives) are but I sure would like a Lou Lomarilo or executive Scotty Bowman at the helm right now.

Covid destroyed this franchise. With the crap attendance, low tv revenue, it shouldn’t be a surprise Pegula doesn’t want to loose tens of millions of dollars every year.

I’m not so sure about Adams. It wouldn’t surprise me that he could be a very good gm but I think his hands are tied….low budget for staff, coaches and players…..

As for the issues at hand….1. Assistant coaches. 2. 2 vet middle six players, which one of the can win a face off. 3. Levi to Rochester, and Comrie to nhl. Goaltending is mental, what effect has it had on Comrie this 3 headed monster???

I honestly thinks that rights the ship. Never gonna happen though.

Bowman? Bowman was the guy whose ego got in the way of the team, taking them from being a Conference Finalist to worst team in the league in his time as GM.

I was referring to his time “consulting” with the Wings…

Yeah, I’m old enough to remember him f**** up the Sabres.

Also, a “name” would give this franchise some respect, something that it hasn’t had since the co-captains, or Lucic running over Miller….

Ugh

Connor Ingram was a guy I wanted when he hit waivers in Nashville.

I remain steadfast in focusing on DeMelo as a free agent next offseason. I dont know if he wants to stay in the Peg or not.

If we resign Mitts on a 7 year deal...I think Cozens eventually gets traded (assuming we add a dman in the 4.5-5.5 range in the offseason). We are OK with the cap next season but Peterka/Quinn/Levi need to be resigned the 2025 offseason.

Cozens&Greenway for Foerster&Laughton&Bonk&2nd&4th?

The thing with Cozens is the 7.1 a year. I dont see him as a PPG lock anymore, and I don't know if he is a legit NHL center. Yes, it's possible in 2 years you kick yourself for trading him...but I think it's Mitts or him, and Mitts is a sure thing as a 2C. It's a risk for a team to take on that contract as well.

Bottom line, we can't afford a 7 million dollar 3rd line center.

Rosen&Clifton for a 3nd? Cap dump and there isn't a spot for Rosen.

Don't see a solution for goalie and it appears pretty certain we come back with Levi/UPL next year

Skinner TT Tuch
JJ Mittelstadt Quinn
Benson Laughton Foerster
Kulich Krebs Savoie
Gus

Sammy Dahlin
Power DeMelo
RjJo Joker
DeSimone (UFA)

Levi
UPL

And new assistants

Next year is when we try the "roll 4 lines" concept. Every forward gets at least 12 and a half minutes a game.

Cozens won’t be traded and shouldn’t be traded. If anything he shifts to wing or ends up as an expensive 3C playing with Peterka and Quinn.

Bjornfot on waivers…any interest?
Vegas got him means Buffalo passed.

Seems like Greenway would be better suited for the 4th line. He just doesn't have the offensive capabilities to be in the top 9. Not trying to knock him. He would be a very good 4th line player.
He brings more than just points but you need more than 3 goals from players in your top 9.

We have too much talent waiting in the wings for him to stay in the top 9.

JJ and Quinn are going to be expensive. Mitts has to be a short term deal, Cozens isn't going anywhere.

Yes you did.

I started a goalie thread back then mostly because I was obsessed with the fact that a waiver claim might be better than our free agent signings (Anderson, Dell). Ingram was at the top of my list.

Are we fans of the business of fantasy hockey, or are we fans of the business of winning hockey games? I'll take the guy that is bringing more than just points to his line, than just focusing on the amount of goals to qualify whether or not he should be in the top 9.

But the truth is, we don't have too much talent waiting in the wings to replace him in the top 9. We barely have 1 player that has shown they are close to being ready for the NHL game in terms of prospects. We have guys we HOPE will be good enough, but until proven otherwise, right now all we have is hope. There's still a chance we will need a player like Greenway on their line to help ease the pressure and free them up to utilize them to their potential, much like he's doing for Benson currently.
