I think if you want to affect real change this summer:
1. Skinner buyout. Or if a team will take him at 50% retained and he'd be willing to go there, I'd do that too. He's not part of the solution and never was.
2. Decide on UPL or Levi. If its UPL, Levi can get more time in the minors. Get a veteran 1B to start 30-40 games.
3. Find a partner for Power. The UFA for RH defensive oriented d-men is deep this year. Dumba, Pesce, Matt Roy, Tanev, Walker. I think it's OK to take a loss on Clifton.
4. You want to add two veteran forwards to the top 9, one at center. They don't have to be super stars....they do need to be hard workers who can help mentor our young group and can play in their own zone. A complete revamp of the 4th line is needed as well.
I mean, aside from the Skinner buyout, these are things we should have last year.
Combine those moves with an entire coaching staff purge and some front office changes, , you probably are setting the team up for growth. Playoffs should be the expectation and anything less would lead to more changes among the group.
The only thing I'd probably consider in season is IF you could get Lindholm to sign a Horvat style (8x8.5) contract, after a trade, that would be one way to kick things off. I think, realistically, its probably too late to save the season, but, adding a legit two way #1B center to complement Thompson and mentor Cozens would be a great start. However, I doubt that Lindholm wants to go from a meh situation in Calgary to the endless playoff drought team.
