Olofsson Girgensons Jost Okposo, Johnson, Bryson.
No - this bullshit has to stop.

There's maybe space for Johnson plus one forward. At a push.

Olofsson is likely off the team by the time Quinn is back from injury. So that's not a vacancy.

And there is NO WAY you're replacing the likes of Okposo, Girgensons & even Jost with small, soft, offensively minded players. This team needs to improve defensively more than anything. Not get worse.

I was simply stating potential players who could be gone after this year.

Is any of the Columbus defensemen good enough to crack our top 4?
Peeke looks like a good partner for Power on paper. Jokiharju could then lead the third pair with one of Johnson/Cliffton.

Bryson gets to enjoy Rochester or some other NHL team.

I think Adams/Granato are going to see what they have in this defensive group before making a move. I know a lot of people are annoyed seeing Joki with Power. I'm not a fan of it at all. But...If Joki struggles, then we'll likely see Clifton, EJ, and even RJ get a look with Power before spending big assets on an upgrade.

As I said, posters are pissed, and I'm not going to harp on them, but Adams did add a ton of depth to the defense. I don't think the defense looks nearly as bleak as it did to end the year last season. There are a few options that could realistically gel well with Power, and I'm slightly optimistic one of EJ/RJ/Clifton will show chemistry with Power if Joki fails.

I agree that the depth is way better, especially with RJ in the fold.

Peeke might be another band aid solution anyway. I'm not against Jokiharju but I think he's ideal on the third pair, he can develop his game without being in one of the most critical roles on the team.

I'm more depressed about the goalie situation but there's no point in regurgitating that.

Team will be fun this year as well. I think we'll stand up better against Pens, Tampa and Panthers.
If Benson covers for Quinn while Peterka, Mittelstadt and Krebs have breakout seasons I think we can make the playoffs.

I always forget about Krebs who seems to get lost in the shuffle a bit. I'm definitely looking for him to breakout this year. I'm hoping he can be a consistent 45-55 point player when he's in his prime.

22, contract year, 26 pts in 74 games last season.
If he's part of a more functional line this year I expect him to hit 45 with ease which we need since I think the first line will take a step back.

So it looks like:

2029-30: Thompson, Cozens, Samuelsson
2030-31: Power
2031-32: Dahlin

Not sure if it was intentional that we staggered Dahlin/Power but probably a good move. Power will be a 28 year old UFA, Dahlin will be a 32 year old UFA. Power will probably be worth more on deal #2 if he pans out as we expect.

Is Mittelstadt a player you commit to long term? Could he be replaced by a cheaper option?

Will eventually need to pay Quinn, Peterka, Benson, and hopefully Kulich/Savoie

I wonder if we were ever really in on Pesce. Or, did Powers price tag really go up after the Sanderson signing. They probably had an idea on Dahlin for a few months.

Mitts Krebs Joker then Levi. We are gonna be up against it. Worse problems to have. But when 6 players take up half the cap, you gonna need those ELCs and cheap veteran million dollar deals.

Guys like Kulich and Rosen ought to be candidates to be flipped for 1sts to keep the ELC gravy train rolling for YEARS

I think Mitts is going to establish himself as a 55-60 point centre who is good defensively this year (if that wasn't already established this year). I think at that, he's a good candidate for 5-6M on a mid-term deal.

The real wrench is if he really breaks out and is putting up 75-80 points this year, which is not out of the realm of possibility.

4,5, or 6 years is what I would do Mitts for

I'm way in on the bolded. Not necessarily them, but we'll need to stretch our glut of assets into the future before they crowd each other out and wither on the vine.

Barring a major breakout, I don't think a guy like Krebs will be getting a second contract here and he'll be traded in the same fashion. Passing on the $3m deals for the $900k ELCs is how our cap will balance into the future. The remaining Savoie/Rosen/Kulich/Poltapov/Ostlund crew who aren't traded will cycle in, ad infinitum inshallah.

Mitts between Asplund/Jost and Olofsson last year vs Greenway and Benson this year...he might end up somewhere between.

Krebs is an interesting case. As the main prospect in the Eichel deal it will be tough to move on. But he has to show something, unless he's happy in the 4C role.

Yeah, I do love his fire and spunk especially if more skill keeps revealing itself. But in terms of Econ 101, the fact that he was in the Eichel deal is a sunk emotional cost and shouldn't factor in, and I'm not so sure he and Kozak won't be fungible as 4th line centers but Kozak for 1/3 the cost. Hopefully he makes it a very tough decision this year.

I wonder if he'll be comparable to a Rasmus Sandin as a former 1st traded at 22 for a late 1st and a rental. That would be ideal.
