anyone have an update on King? I thnk he will really help the bottom six

I heard he was using the injury as an opportunity to work on his after goal celebration face. It should be epic when he returns.

The bottom 6 is just missing that solid 3C. Anyone have one of those machines that fuses people together? If we could put Shore's faceoff ability in Lewis' body, we'd be set.

He went undrafted in 2010 and the Flyers tried to sign him in 2013 but he turned them down because he didn't want to play in the AHL, only the NHL. AT the time they offered him that contract, one of the local media wrote that he was a good two-way defenseman with above-average puck moving skills as well as an accurate shot from the point. He's played at the World Juniors and World Championships and Hextall hinted last spring when the Flyers season ended, that Zaitsev was on their radar again.

He's 24 yrs old, and will be a free agent next year. Yesterday , according to :

Doesn't hurt to try but seems unlikely that a guy looking for a guaranteed roster spot is gonna choose the Kings over that lot who probably can offer a place right away. But who knows, the Kings are certainly the most competitive of the bunch.

Regardless, kinda wish the Kings would sign more of these free agent prospects. When they were rebuilding they were getting guys left and right, not so much these days. I guess it ties together with having more or less a set roster for a number of years but still.

Still some weeks/months away, not even skating yet.

No it doesn't, every interested GM will 'try' and I'm sure it will come down to playing time and money. And given it's currently a seller's market and viable young defenseman are at a premium, some team might overpay to get him, which would leave the Kings behind, I think, due to their CAP situation.
The longer Kopi goes unsigned, the shorter the list for other signings will be.

I think cap wise it shouldn't be a huge problem since he will have to sign an entry level contract which is what, 950k plus bonuses at the most? And with his age it's a 1-year contract. But I agree that the Kopitar situation certainly isn't making it any easier, that's for sure.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but if the Kings are interested, they have to give him a roster spot. Because if he is sent down, he will have to go through waivers and most likely will be picked off by another team.

You're right on the entry level (Damien Brunner was the most recent example a similar situation that I can think of) but I'm not sure beyond that 1 yr. if the Kings would be able to afford him, which is what I meant and didn't elaborate correctly.
The Kings first priority next summer would be Toffoli and Pearsons's new deals, among others, and depending on what Kopi and Lewis get, not sure how much would be left.

Zaitsev would not require waivers to go to AHL if he signed right now. However he would require waivers to be signed since he has played in Europe this year and is not on a 90 man reserve list. So if he signed a 2015-16 contract right now with any team (providing he gets released by his KHL team) he would need waivers immediately no matter where the signing team wants to play him.

If he is signed to a contract for 2016-17 (as in to come over next year) he would not require waivers for the 2016-17 season. All players 25 and over signing their first NHL contract have 1 season where they are not subject to waivers.

Well then, he's not signing here...LOL!

I think putting him on 3 rw would help the bottom six. Looks around to all the shocked faces.:sarcasm: If only to push shore down a line Lewis to center gaborik and king Shore moves to 4c and centers clifford and nolan ever

why have King on the right side and Gaborik on the left? I would switch them and then be perfectly fine with that line

well if king played rw we could switch pearson and gaborik around depending on who plays better gets line one the other stays on line 3. This way king wouldn't have to switch back and forth depending on who is on line 3. I've not seen pearson play rw at all. However i have no issue with king and gaborik switching

Watched the celebrity golf thingie with Drew Doughty... He's on that chewing tobacco **** as well? Man that is a gross habit.

Wouldn't all contract offers for a player like Zaitsev be the same? I was under the impression that regardless of where he signed it would be for a capped SPC ($950K or whatever), two-way, one year because of his age.

Seems pretty low risk for whoever gets him. Super low cap hit, high upside, etc. It would just come down to if he wants to try to shine on a crappy team, or be a part of a contender. Both have their + and - from a player standpoint.

At least it's not the **** stoll is on that got him arrested. Hopefully he will learn more about it prior to it doing too much damage.

Yeah, it was not something I wanted to look at, though it made Doughty look like someone gave him a fat lip. Maybe it was an opposing player sick of Drew's smack talk. :sarcasm:

Congrats to new father Jamie McBain and his wife. Jeff Carter must be a pretty popular guy on his team. That's the second Kings baby named after him.

Okay, that didn't sound right. Hey, you know what I mean.

Yes his contract would be capped under ELC rules. 925K + bonuses (up to about 2.5 million but they don't count on cap unless they are hit) and two-way one year deal.

The flavored stuff is the best. So good. Miss it

80% of hockey players chew tobacco at some point. It's huge in the hockey community.

The Kings will sign him alright, but Sutter won't play him.

Bob McKenzie interview where he discusses Kopitar and the Kings at the 15:30 mark:

https://soundcloud.com/nhltopshelf/bob-mckenzie-shares-insight-on-early-season-story-lines

To paraphrase, he states that Kopitar isn't going to get exactly what Kane and Toews got, but a point of pride is getting something within that ballpark.

Cites the cap crunch Chicago is in and that the Kings are prudent to avoid that while also not low balling Kopitar.

He's of the opinion that Kopitar is more likely to re-sign with his team than Stamkos.

Zaitsev and his situation were discussed at length in the opening segment of Elliotte Friedman's 30 thoughts column today.

http://www.sportsnet.ca/hockey/nhl/30-thoughts-power-struggle-over-the-coachs-challenge/

He noted that he speaks pretty good English and Trains with Gary Roberts (which is a good thing)

He is eligible to sign as of March 1, when his KHL contract is up, although that could be delayed if he chooses to play in the World Championships. By CBA rules, Zaitsev would sign a one-year entry-level contract. After that, he would become a restricted free agent

He also has some comments on the issues GM's are having with the coach's challenge.

under item 4 is a video of Lupul's disallowed goal in last Friday's loss to NY and that the GM's will view it and vote on if they feel the goal should have counted.

in point 14, he talks to the fact Phaneuf again is leading the lead in minor penalties with 9 and last year was fifth wit h39. He said one NHL exec he spoke with said it's a reason they wouldn't consider him in a trade.

21. Los Angeles coach Darryl Sutter experimented with Marian Gaborik away from Anze Kopitar, and one opposing coach said he saw why. “Gaborik is more of a freelancer, and sometimes Kopitar looks frustrated with it.” (The coach is not Maurice. As usual, no named source is used for anonymous comments.)

Gaborik hasn't played well to start the season. He has looked slow to get it going.

Kopitar same deal, looks like both are sort of playing themselves into shape. Which is unacceptable if you ask me.

Except we've atleast gotten a glimpse of the old Kopitar this year, notably the game against Edmonton. Gaborik hasn't done anything noteworthy imo.
