I'm not sold on Schultz keeping up with the pace this year, he's too much of a pylon. But good on him for making the team out of camp.

I don't think Schultz will stick either, too much talent on the blueline in Ontario with Forbort/Gravel/Lintuniemi ETC.

But, it highlights to young guys they can lose spots/ice time, if they don't take the opportunity they have, seriously. Speaking of Lintuniemi, what a dynamite Second round pick.

Lintuniemi is going to be really solid, kid has got great hockey skills and vision. Another second round home run by Lombardi/Futa if you ask me.

Agreed. Have you kept up with Mckeown at all? I wish we would have held onto him in lieu of the Voynov fiasco.

If anything, McNabb will learn that you always have to be prepared and bust your ass to keep your spot, or you risk someone else grabbing it from you.

I only caught bits of the rough season he had last year. McKeown regressed in certain areas. His numbers were ok by his standards, but his play fell off quite a bit.

I think it was due to the Kings development staff asking him to play more 200ft of ice. That is always a tough adjustment for young guys that know nothing but offensive play in the CHL.

McKeown had a rough season, he needs to rebound. Personal Opinnion, I think Nick Ebert has more skill and (jam/moxie) to his game than McKeown, that's just my opinion though. I am really high on Ebert.

I searched Carolina's forum high and low and no one seems to have an opinion on him at all. He got sent back to juniors obviously but three or four posters asked about him and got nothin.

Also kudos to Sutter for the Marty praise.

I thought Marty was easily one of the weakest Defenders the Kings had last season along with Greene. Some of the advanced stats support that claim, along with Muzzin having to move down to cover Greene.

But that's why I am not an NHL coach.

I'm not sure Sutter knows or believes in them. He seems like he just goes with what his eyes tell him, and they're not always right.

Some interesting stuff from Sutter via Rosen about the D. Just a good read overall really, especially on chemistry between Kopitar and Lucic:

http://lakingsinsider.com/2015/10/06/october-6-practice-quotes-darryl-sutter-2/

Muzzin is good to go, Greene seems close, but needs detail: "No. Not ready. He’s hurt. It’s what I said when Greener got hurt. He had missed, what, five or six days of camp sick, and that was his first game, that he got hurt in. Other than that – what did he play, five minutes? [Reporter: Five minutes, yeah.] So that’s basically his whole activity. And even today out there, I kept saying, ‘Are you supposed to be doing this?"

Also, some high praise for martinez imo: "Marty’s like Lewie. You guys think I play favorites, but Marty’s like our guy on the back end that does the same thing that Lewie does up front. You put him wherever you want. He gives you the most he’s got, all the time. Maximizes his skill set. It doesn’t matter what side and where, or who."

Edit: also, wow, you can read from that that McNabb may not even have been in the lineup if we were fully healthy.

I took that as Schultz wouldn't have been in the lineup if everyone was healthy.

I saw this video of a giraffe getting knocked out by another giraffe, it took an eternity to fall all the way to the ground. This is what pops in my head every time Schulz's feet get tangled up while skating backwards.

Huh, I could see that too.

lol!

yeah i get the impression sutter is "old school" or traditional that way. and hey it's worked for him in that he helped build a championship team in the past. but i think it's a valid criticism to point out that he's a traditionalist when sometimes he could use closer analysis or thinking outside his "boxes."

Kings defense is going to be pretty bad this season outside of the top pair. Lots of pressure on DD and Muzzin who are going to have to play half the game, and lots of pressure on the offense, the Kings can't afford down years from as many forwards as they had last year. The Kings are going to have to be a more offensive oriented team this season to contend.

Yep. Absolutely need the Top 6 to remain healthy. Losing Pearson and his speed killed them last season.

Need the Bottom 6 to not be a giant black hole of offense as well.

Doughty not going to play less minutes, that's for sure. Nice to say it, but Sutter is going to give him 25 minutes again because this team needs him out there for that long.

It's possible, but really how much different is this defensive corps than last years, who allowed the fewest shots in the league, and tied for the 4th fewest goals against? Basically it's Regher out, Erhoff in. I think it's more likely they maintain the status quo or close to it, rather than seeing a major regression. It's pretty amazing that they led the league with fewest shots allowed when they are one of the lowest in blocked shots. This group is more stifling than they get credit for.

Both McBain and Schultz were moving parts last year, that really hasn't changed. From what Forbort showed in camp, if he keeps that up the defense might even end up better.

I don't get why people say this. I agree it won't be as good as the previous years but I still think they will be top 5 to 7 in gaa. The system of the kings rely heavily on their forwards.
