I called it all summer, no way Kings would waive Weal or Andreoff.

O'Neil is gone, sad but he never had a chance in LA.

Berube hurts, but whatever.

Still puzzled with Schultz is starting over Forbort.

Schultz at the top of his game is RR light..that's the best I got

waivers guys, waivers.

it's just early season asset management, and Ontario is a quick call-up this season - Schultz is a stopgap for Greene.

Some interesting stuff from Sutter via Rosen about the D. Just a good read overall really, especially on chemistry between Kopitar and Lucic:

http://lakingsinsider.com/2015/10/06/october-6-practice-quotes-darryl-sutter-2/

Muzzin is good to go, Greene seems close, but needs detail: "No. Not ready. He’s hurt. It’s what I said when Greener got hurt. He had missed, what, five or six days of camp sick, and that was his first game, that he got hurt in. Other than that – what did he play, five minutes? [Reporter: Five minutes, yeah.] So that’s basically his whole activity. And even today out there, I kept saying, ‘Are you supposed to be doing this?"

Also, some high praise for martinez imo: "Marty’s like Lewie. You guys think I play favorites, but Marty’s like our guy on the back end that does the same thing that Lewie does up front. You put him wherever you want. He gives you the most he’s got, all the time. Maximizes his skill set. It doesn’t matter what side and where, or who."

Edit: also, wow, you can read from that that McNabb may not even have been in the lineup if we were fully healthy.

Interesting to see Sutter say Kopitar got hurt early last year. Don't recall that.

Well that's obviously a mistake since virtually the entire board here has McNabb penciled in for the second pair.

Is McNabb is the modern day Darryl Sydor? The Kings have butchered his development. He very well may have had a poor camp, but the fact is he was playing excellent hockey last season and then was sat in favor of Matt Greene when they traded for Sekera. I hope he can recover, confidence is a big part of being a good defender in the NHL.

the KINGS have traded prospects/picks/to a certain extent development of certain prospects to win now..

Im happy with the results so far but DS does not develop kids unless they force themselves into the lineups, so McNabb, Weal, and Shore will develop if they prove capable of the task.... With that said DS is similar to Phil Jackson in their loyalty to vets but that needs to change because we need youth on this team or else DS will run guys like Kopi, DD and a few others into the ground..

I mostly agree with everything Sutter has done and plenty of guys have developed under him, but sitting McNabb last season made absolutely zero sense.

McNabb at his worst is still better than Matt Greene. I hope he plays with Ehrhoff on the second pairing once everyone's healthy.

It's just the typical progression of defensmen on the Kings. Remember when Sutter first came? He sat Martinez all the time and said similar stuff about him. Remember the posts about how Sutter hated Amart? Now it's "Marty is like Lewie".

Anyways, if McNabb would have had a better camp, this would be a moot point. I think everyone knows that he's going to be better than Greene or Schultz over the season (including Sutter). Gotta give props to Schultz though, he had a really solid camp, and showed he could recover after being beaten on a play.

I don't think Sutter is much harder on young guys than most other coaches around. Seems like the most common complaint when reading the boards around here, coaches not giving young guys a proper shot. Sutter just makes you earn it, that's all. You're gonna have to prove to him that you can play every night on a consistent level before you get penciled in anywhere. And I really do think some young guys are better off for it in the long run.

agree, don't know why everyone is bagging on Sutter now.

If McNabb was actually as solid as people think he is, he would be more consistent in his play - his development isn't taking THAT big of a hit from missing out on a quarter season's worth of games. He's either going to prove himself valuable again and win the spot everyone had him penciled into, or he won't make the most of his chances and maybe Forbort steals it from him. Healthy competition isn't a bad thing.

Bingo.

Butchering a Development, is handing a young player a spot, he did not earn.

Are people really upset with how Toiffoli/Pearson/King/Nolan/Muzzin have turned out under Sutter ?

Also kudos to Sutter for the Marty praise.

I thought Marty was easily one of the weakest Defenders the Kings had last season along with Greene. Some of the advanced stats support that claim, along with Muzzin having to move down to cover Greene.

But that's why I am not an NHL coach.

Veteran players first. You know the rules!

I really think they are going to look at all four of McNabb, Schultz, Greene, and Forbort well into the season. Sutter can and will stop playing anyone of these four with a bad game. The other four are off limits in this regard.

Whoa, I wasn't bagging on McNabb or saying he's something he's not. Just shocked that, if fully healthy, he was #7 if you read into Sutter's comments. The question becomes who did he have in, then? Doughty-Muzzin, Martinez-Greene, Ehrhoff-....Schultz? Probably him over Forbort while Forbort marinates, if we speak Sutter.

Before the injury? I don't think so. He was fantastic most of the year. He was as bad as I've ever seen him down the stretch, though.

Probably Schultz, he had a fantastic camp, he played really solid. Basically played himself on to the roster, and Schultz is a veteran NHL player.

Kings insider did that interview with Schultz and the quote that stuck out to me was; Schultz "I am playing every single game as it was my last game on the ice".

That's some serious moto right there. McNabb played this preseason like he thought the spot for him was locked up(Rookie/young player mistake if you ask me).
