Roster Talk: Nearing the 20 game mark

He was amazing anyway, but we're seeing him just completely dominate now that he's mostly on the 2nd pairing. Can carry easily by himself. He compares favorably to the 'top' #2s around the league in Brodie (Gio now imo, haha) and Josi and some #1s. He's really coming into his own and I like, similar to Doughty, how his first focus is ALWAYS defense but has offensive pop. He's pretty much a shutdown d-man at this stage, just like Doughty, they just also have the offensive talents go get going.

Having doughty and muzzin is a huge reason why the kings are the best defensive team in the league. It's a joke that yandle is even linked to the kings.
 
When King/Lewis/Clifford get back, I see Weal going to waivers. In two games with the Kings, Mersch has really stood out as an NHLer. In many more games than two, Weal still looks like an AHLer out there.....

I laugh at the people that say he's a product of Doughty. He puts up better numbers away from Doughty.

I Hope you're wrong because I like the kid and hope he figures it out quickly. Either way, he's finally getting an opportunity now and it's up to him to see what he can do with it.
 
With how tired we looked last night (especially in first period) is there any chance Nic Dowd could come up and play a game or two instead of Weal ? I would like to see a bottom 6 of mersch dowd and brown andreoff shore nolan for a game or two

I agree on Mersch as an NHLer, and Weal may not have a future here, but let's also not forget that Mersch is getting regular NHLer playing time with Shore and Brown while Weal is getting cautious minutes with Andreoff and Nolan. He needs to be better for sure, but that's a setup for failure for a skill guy.

I think there's little chance really. But maybe...the Reign play today at 3 then not till next weekend so yeah

I just think its a good chance to get another reign player a cup of coffee. Also with 13 assists and 2 goals he looks like more of a set up guy and would work better with mersch and brown then andreoff and nolan I think its sorta important to get rookies a look at nhl so it makes them more hungry to stick Also more options at trade deadline should we need to make a move ( i am thinking more and more i like this team as is. With greene lewis clifford and yes even king are going to be as good as any trade we can make )

I don't disagree with your reasoning. And if Sutter was really lobbying for an additional forward especially because of fatigue, then yeah. I think it's important to have an emergency forward so we dont' lose someone then have to play short forwards and 7 d again with the fatigue especially. Just think if they were going to fly someone else cross-country to join the team they would have done it already though as I said maybe we'll see after the reign game today. Dowd would be next on my list too for certain.
 
I was under the impression the Kings didn't have any NTC/NMC but I was just scanning general fanager and saw they list Brown with NMC and Quick with NTC. If that's true, I think we all should expect Brown to finish his career in LA.

give the kid some time - literally.

whatever happens i'd rather see the kings trade him than put the mvp of calder cup championship on waivers.

Brown was talked about at the time that he has a limited clause of some kind. Never was there a mention about Quick that I can remember seeing.

Nice to read someone thinks my reasoning is sound with being busy packing up here and going home for a couple weeks for xmas and returning at the end of the month I am spread rather thin. If they don't have a extra forward in ottawa it could hurt the team playing short if flu hits. Its a concern with so many more games on this trip As Far as i know lewis clifford and king are still in california. Also thanks on saying Dowd would be your next call up i wasn't positive till i ask on twitter who is most ready.
 
Dowd is more suited to be the 4C than Weal. Weal at best is competing for a 1C, 2C slot and at worst the 3C. However, if Weal isn't used with better wingers or on the PP, then he's useless in the lineup, and we'd be better off with Dowd.
