What if the Kings do really well this year and contend for another SC? (or god forbid even win it?)

It would mean that something is obviously working for this team with DB as captain. Considering that, can we really assume it would be beneficial to move him?

I'd be willing to be that the Kings go to at least the WCF this year.

If it ain't broke, don't fix it?

Maybe what is working is having players like Toffoli, Kopitar and Lucic (all who will need new contract in the 2 years or less). Not Brown.

I believe Greene is dealing with the same injury that plagued him in 2013.

Bicep or peck muscle, Greene has that bad habit of using too much upper body to move guys off pucks.

Greene, still no time table according to Kings insider, also went to see another doctor.

Kings have to find a way to move Brown.

The only problem it doesn't solve the LW dilemma.

Pearson, Lucic, King, and Clifford are all pure Left Wingers. Brown has been playing RW to Shore and Lewis and when King comes back will be playing RW to Shore and King. No room for Mersch.

Brown and Gaboriks contracts are just too long. They might have to be bought out but I think the Kings will give Gaborik a few more years but Browns time is running up. I also think Brown is still a more trade able asset at this point. A team like Toronto doesn't have a player like Brown and been rumored to be interested in him for years.

Given Brown's current contract, I don't think anyone disagrees with this. However, I haven't seen a single person come up with a trade that would make sense for the team acquiring Brown, or for the Kings.

Pretty much.

And it really is a rock and a hard place. Everyone here loves Brown (in the org I mean; but most fans too); it's just the contract that's easiest to point to that's not being fulfilled from a production standpoint. Stinks because he's still hitting, moving, and performing a strong role as a third liner, but being paid as the 50-60 point guy. Like Johnjm said, hard to move your captain period, more so after how much success the franchise has seen under his watch...DL's had a lot of emotional decisions to make, this one will be tough no matter what happens.

Well, Hamonic wants out of New York and Dustin Brown is from the NY area, maybe Dean and Garth can work something out (I know, wishful thinking on my part).

The heart is there, but I've always questioned his hockey IQ.

Interesting tidbit on Sutters morning skate notes... Praises pearsons hockey sense and said it was helping Kopi (which he wasn't getting before). Kinda interesting as that's a shot at brown and gabby.

Everyone has always questioned his IQ, that's fine. He hasn't gotten dumber, he's just not producing 50-60 points like he used to.

You know, he's not on that line anymore really, but we were talking about Kopitar shooting maybe helping out Gabby--I think it would help out Brown a lot too. He really needs to get his nose dirtier and keep playing north-south. Lot of time left to salvage some production from this season--I doubt he's going to be shooting 2.8% forever--but we've all always noted that when he keeps his game simple he's at his most effective.

I agree with Sutter on Pearson, the guy makes some really saavy plays with his vision.

I agree more points will come as his effort is there. But you said it best, needs to simplify his game. To me, that is getting dumber as he has moved away from what made him good in the first place. He has shown flashes of his former self this season which is encouraging, but he needs to be aware in the dirty areas and not turned around or on the ice ;)

Richards and Greene showed us you can't think like that. In 2014 the Kings let the emotions of winning cloud their judgement and we ended up having over $8 million in cap space committed to our 4th line center and #6 d-man for the next four years.

You evaluate each player individually.

You're right too, but regardless, you have to admit it would be shocking if DL moved his captain.

Only way to move Brown is for another bad contract (Ryan Callahan). He's here to stay...Lucic won't be re-signed unless his family really loves it and he signs a sweetheart deal.

Has to be hard to miss the Boston and Vancouver winters on days like today and tomorrow in SoCal.

If it was that easy, Brown would already be off the team.

Also Lucic would already be signed.

You're right. Lucic will be hard to sign, Kings would just be better off letting him walk. Now that we're on the subject I bet Toffoli's new contract will be tough to get done as well. Probably should let him walk too. Oh man Doughty needs a new contract in a few years. It was too hard to find a way to keep the good players.

Pretty sure 2013 was his back.

But you're right; this could all be a part of some chain reaction of injuries for him due to his style of play.

I think he tries to make a comeback next year. If it's just not working, he'll retire. Or honestly, Dean will just keep him on LTIR to pay him.

Bottom pair isn't a problem. McNabb on the top pair is the showstopper.

If they can get themselves another top 3-4 dman, it'll help McNabb a lot to slide back to a more suitable role and easier minutes that he could handle in a pairing with McBain.

At times he looks overwhelmed with the talent he is on the ice against, which is why lately we are seeing Doughty pretty much take a shift with every other left handed defenseman on the roster.

Pray to the hockey gods that Lombardi will be blessed with such a defenseman, in the form of Travis Hamonic.

I agree with what you're saying. But, getting another D like you mention, they just aren't out there. If McNabb doesn't work, DS will have to go back to Muzzin, and then see what other options there are, like Forbort-Martinez, etc. I'm in the camp that McNabb really needs to sit a couple games. He's earned DS ire as much as the rest of them, but it seems like they're handling him with kids gloves while the rest get beat up.

It would be a godsend if that happens, but someone like Martinez would probably be going the other way.

If by somehow the Kings wanted to trade or could trade Brown (I know contract). What would be an acceptable trade in everyone's eyes? I know it wouldn't be worth it for the Kings because his contract takes down what little value he has with his recent bad play. What would everyone be looking for other than cap space?

I have been wondering for some time now if Brown would be good for Edmonton. I know they are in the same division, but I feel like Edmonton has plenty of skill, they just need some leadership. Dustin Brown would provide that for them. If the Kings retain half of DB's salary, I wonder if Edmonton would be interested.

I really think DB has value, but nobody is going to touch him for that price tag. If the Kings are going to retain certain players in the future (Toffoli, Pearson), while remaining as competitive as possible, they are going to have to find a way to get rid of at least some of dustin browns salary hit.
