The takes here are hilarious. All we know is that Botterill DIDN'T take some deal that wasn't good enough, written from some Canada homering website that painting some steal that he missed out on because of two leaps of speculation, is enough to be a criticism of how cheap Botterill is? geez-- anything flies. The guy's only trades are an absolute steal for Scandella, a 5th for Wilson, and a 6th for a 6th, and somehow Botterill is some cheap no-good GM..
A 6th for a 6th is not a steal.

While the team stayed at the bottom of the league. You can't plummet when you're already down at the bottom.

Look, I get that some people wanted Botterill to do more last year, but the level of vitriol spewed about him by a few is beyond all reason. Give it an f'ing rest, and stop taking it into all the threads. It's beyond tiresome at this point.

2016-2017
Points 78 points
Wins 33
Goals For 199
Goals Against 231
PP% 24.5 %
PK% 77.6 %

2017-2018
Points 62 points
Wins 25
Goals For 198
Goals Against 278
PP% 19.1%
PK% 77.9%

Now I believe that the team was a better PP and a better goaltender performance away to being as good as the previous year. However, when they came away from the firing of Murray and Bylsma, as good isn't acceptable.

You're missing the point. It's not a matter of it being acceptable or not. I understand a certain level of frustration. However, it's gone beyond all proportion at this point, and it's permeating too many of the discussions. Give it a rest, or keep it in the Botterill thread.

Now, enough from me, or I'll fulfill Jame's rather lame response.

Sorry to say this, but when you're in the roster speculation, you should be expecting the guy that is in charge of the roster, at the end of the day, to have some detractors, or supporters. When they discuss the roster and the actions he took or didn't take, it's going to go more indepth of it.

Realistically, just for fun, what kind of return could Eichel return?
Hamilton+Terväinen
Kuznetsov+Burakovsky
Parayko+Kyrou

My guess: a big one+ is what most would offer but some team might go with a better offer just to win it.

Or maybe it's not, and that 16/17 team was being propped up by above average goaltending and a seemingly unsustainable #1 in the league PP. Came back down to Earth this year and Botts is taking the fall.

I don't believe Botts made the team worse, but he didn't make them better.

He went got Scandella.

Just imagine how bad this team would have been without him.

People thought Scandella was really going to have a huge impact and he didn't. I think he was overrated last year and still is a bit, but at the time the consensus was that Botterill traded nickels for a top 4 dman.

In hindsight he didn't do enough, but very few people would have looked at this roster before the season started and assumed such a awful performance, other than the miserable people who always say the team stinks.

I liked what Scandella brought, but a defense will still get plowed if you only have two decent guys out of 6.

I’m super pumped to see Dahlin, but on a team wide view they need to add another Scandella to have a hope of being a good unit.

I'm all in on a Dahlin - Ristolainen pairing. Could have similar effects as what the Blues had with MacInnis and Pronger. Except with Dahlin, better.

No thanks to the Minnesota trade. That's absurd and to be honest not enough asset quality for O'Reilly. Without even Greenway or Ek back, it's a terrible move. I get the appeal of Zucker, however I'm not interested in Spurgeon at all. Yes I realize that he's an upgrade and we move on from Bogosian, but this is not the right move at all or the right return.

Compared to Benier for 14-17 he had better adjusted numbers than Bernier for example. Unfortunately there is not 18 data yet where I am pretty sure that Bernier will trump Mrazek. But iverall, considering age and relatively similar current level of play Id take Mrazek over Bernier as a project goalie to compete with Ullmark. Neither is ideal choice but thats where we are after neglecting the position for so long...
He's only 26 so his days of being handed the starting job are over but at the very least he should be a decent back up. As I wouldn't have a problem bringing him to be a split starter will Ullmark this season to see how he handles the role, at the worst he fails and instead of playing 40 games he plays 15-20. It's not like we're going to be contending for the division title next year with or without him yet like to see if he worth taking a flier on and if he meets/exceeds competition maybe keep him around when we hopefully are ready to really contend for something in 2019 or 2020.

Sounds like the Flames are going to make a pitch for Canes UFA utility forward Derek Ryan. Still hoping for some quality guys who can fill 3rd and 4th line roles.

Sure, but the article did speculate on a package of picks and not any players or prospects like Mete.

The article didn't paint a great picture about what Montreal was offering back as they had no interest in trading the 3rd overall pick for O'Reilly.

I think it was wishful thinking from those that want to see O'Reilly traded but are afraid that Botterill might have moved him for a handful of picks and that's it.

Only time will tell if O'Reilly is moved what comes back.

Personally, this article isn't giving me confidence that they will improve the team over the next year or two if they move O'Reilly.

It may be a step back in the short term with the hope that picks turn into players down the road.

The article is almost entirely speculation that the reporter himself admits he can't confirm but follows that with ....... "but that doesn’t mean it didn’t happen".

Its a Habs beat reporter for Sportsnet writing a fluff piece on how Bergevin almost had the best weekend ever. Where he solves all their center problems in one fell swoop with their 3rd pick and then getting ROR without paying the price thats being asked. If only a bunch of things that didn't happen had actually happened it would have been great. Things there is little evidence to support were even in play let alone going to happen.

I've yet to see anything to dispute the idea we're asking for whats been consistently reported for some time by Bobby Mac. A good young player, a top prospect and a pick, the Mike Richards return if you will.

I don't have faith or lack of faith in Botts. I honestly have no idea what to expect from him in a big trade since we have no history to work from. But the knee jerk panic over every report is something to behold.
