toss up at this point, while I don't expect management to force him into the lineup I also don't think they'd force him to Rochester either, after camp I'm expecting that answer to be pretty clear

Would his contract slide again if he did? Not sure if i'd even want that, just curious and getting mixed answers.

Now I wonder..

I think that this team, with some addition on defense, can battle for a PO spot, its possible Sabres staff thinks the same way.

But what about other GM`s in the league? Perhaps someone think we will be lottery team once again.

So maybe, this is the right time to move our 2016 1st, to someone who is certain it will be a lottery pick next year, and get a nice return?

They won't move the 16th first.

The Twin Cities
Ennis-ROR-Eichel
Reinhart-Girgensons-Kane
Moulson-Larsson-Gionta
McGinn-Legwand-Foligno/Deslauriers

?????-Bogosian
Weber-Risto
Gorges-Pysyk

Need 2 LHD, IMO. One for Bogo and one for if Gorges is done or still injured come game 1.

Do McGinn, Legwand, Moulson, or Gionta have any value?

Seems like the top 6 centers should be O'Reilly and Eichel. Kane and Ennis should be in the top 6 somewhere. I'd do a top line of Kane-O'Reilly-Girgensons and get a lot of size and speed on that line. Then load the 2nd line with a ton of skill. Ennis-Eichel-Reinhart.

That's a pretty sweet top 6 that could really grow together.

Top 6 forwards:

Kane-O'Reilly-Girgensons
Ennis-Eichel-Reinhart

The bottom 6 is a lot tougher. I like Foligno there on the LW because he can step up into the top 6 if you need him too for a stretch because of injuries or play in the bottom 6 and still chip in offensively a bit and is a big 6'3 body..

As a Wild fan I'm pretty high on Johan Larsson and I think you gotta give him an extended shot cuz he could become the perfect middle 6 center. Foligno and him seem like perfect 3rd line guys. If Larsson can continue his 5g 8ast pace that he had in his final 19 games...well that's some nice depth scoring from your 3rd line. And Gionta the captain is a nice veteran presence to round out that line.

Top 9 forwards:

Kane-O'Reilly-Girgensons
Ennis-Eichel-Reinhart
Foligno-Larsson-Gionta

Moulson is an okay scorer, but he doesn't do anything without the puck at all, is slow as molasses, weak on the boards, etc. If you want to start building a group that can play the kind of hockey that it takes to win in the NHL, guys like Moulson be okay in the regular season, but disappear completely come playoff time and completely drags down one of your top 6 lines and makes you make tough decisions. Find a way to get rid of him.

I'd make McGinn, Legwand, and Deslauriers the 4th line.

You've got a lot of youth playing some big minutes which is good. But having Legwand and Gionta as role models to these guys would be really good for their development.

McGinn is only 26 and he's a great guy to have on your team because he really pisses other teams off and gets them off there game. I thought he was a goon for a long time, but he's actually pretty skilled.

He's one year removed from a season in which regular season playoffs he played 86g and scored 21 goals and 22 assists. Basically 20-20 over 82 games.

And in his previous two seasons with the Avalanche he played a combined 64 games and scored 19 goals and 16 assists for 35 points...which is basically a 25-20 pace.

So McGinn is pretty reliably a 20-20 guy who's not afraid to play physical and with an edge. Put DesLauriers on the other side, a guy who can be really physical and drop the gloves too and you've got a 4th line that can chip in offensively and set the tone physically.

Kane-O'Reilly-Girgensons
Ennis-Eichel-Reinhart
Foligno-Larsson-Gionta
McGinn-Legward-DeLaureiers

Next offseason they should look into bringing Fasching, Bailey, etc. While getting rid of legwand, DeLaureiers, and Gionta.

Absolutely

I see no way (long term) of fitting all these top end forwards into the LU (& also the salary cap).

We're also not getting anything of value in return for the likes of Gio, Moulson etc (it also sends a bad message trading recently signed FAs).

I know the majority of you don't like it but I'd look to dangle SR for a stud LD in Murray's target age range.

Outside of this (& probably more realistically) Ennis could be the odd man out long term. Its a shame because he was one of the few bright spots last season. I wonder what his value is though - I honestly can't place it.

Hodgson is also done - any of you think he can be traded ? Buyout seems more likely to me but you never know.

I don't like it but if he was going to do that he would have offered SR to either Toronto or Arizona and taken Hanifin.

We need to keep that 2016 and hope we get a top 3 pick for Chrychun. Right now we need to use every pick today on any D that have top 4 potential.

I don't thin SR makes the transition into being a star any time in the next few years, let alone being a star at all. I think he's a great prospect, but I just do not see his game translating to the NHL level.

I wonder if TM would dangle SR for a stud young LHD
Or the possibility of moving the 16' first rounder for the stud young LHD

Not saying it's gonna happen, just wondering

What is this based on? The Sabres management fully expects Sam Reinhart to be here next year and contributing. He has gotten stronger and his hockey IQ is insane. Put him with guys that can score and some grit and Reinhart will do well next year.

You are probably right.

The only thing is that Hanifin is a few years away.

I was a supporter of the SR/NH deal but Hanifin wouldn't be contributing for a while yet. If TM could get someone in his <24 age range NHL ready & proven that may be the difference.

Foligno traded for D would be my route.

Here's the thing with proposals like this. What we have learned from Murray is that when he mentions a player as part of the future, generally they are not options for him. We have heard him discuss Foligno several times in this context. We also know that he talks about a 'moving target' as far as planning, and certainly bringing in ROR and McGinn, maybe this changes things, but I doubt it.

If I was looking for someone on the roster whom he hasn't really talked about in that sense that has real value, it would be Larsson.

What if they spread out the talent over three lines with the top three in no particular order. You could still ice slightly different lines on the PP.

Moulson--O'Reilly--Ennis
Kane--Eichel--Gionta
Girgensons--Larsson--Reinhart
McGinn--Legwand--Deslauriers/Foligno

Larssons place is not in a 4th line. If Buffalo don't see that...let him go somewhere they need him and trust him!

DUFFER: AN EARLY LOOK AT THE DEPTH CHART
Saturday, 06.27.2015 / 10:23 AM ET / News
By Brian Duff - Sabres TV Host

SUNRISE, Fla. - As Day Two of the NHL Draft began here at BB&T Center, it was all but impossible not to keep thinking about what transpired for the Buffalo Sabres on Friday.

So with that in mind -- and knowing that head coach Dan Bylsma is already anxious to put some line combinations into play -- here’s a hypothetical look at how the Sabres might line up against the Ottawa Senators, opening night Oct. 8 at First Niagara Center.

Evander Kane - Ryan O’Reilly - Tyler Ennis
Matt Moulson - Jack Eichel (if he goes pro) - Zemgus Girgensons.
Marcus Foligno - Sam Reinhart - Brian Gionta
Nicolas Deslauriers - Johan Larsson - Jamie McGinn

Extras: David Legwand, Cody McCormick

Josh Gorges - Zach Bogosian
Jake McCabe - Rasmus Ristolainen
Mike Weber - Mark Pysyk

Extra: Chad Ruhwedel

:dunno:

Given how Murray treated Pysyk, we're going to see 2 D-man added to keep him down on the farm IMHO

I am guessing he would probably be first call up? Always injuries to account for. I think Gorges will be a big if going forward. Gorges is going to be our Rivet I think. Huge drop off this year, IMO.
