Roster/Rumors/Speculation/Trade Talk - 2025-26: Welcome to the Darche Side

  • If you are having issues logging in, we have found opening the log in page in a new tab/window rather than using the pop out should resolve these issues. We are working to get this resolved and thank you for patience.
Seattle also has the 25th overall this year. Would you be alright in theory walking away on draft night with:

In:

Matty Beniers
Shane Wright
7th overall
25th overall
13th overall (our pick)

Out:

Mat Barzal

I think that's the kind of move that Darche should seriously consider. Youth movement up the ass.
I'd go for that.

That's true, but why do you assume just because it happened one year that it's going to continue to happen? Keep in mind, what ends up happening with McDavid could send shockwaves through the league. Also, it needn't necessarily be by UFA.

For this offseason, NYI need to acquire a top-4 RD, buy out Palat, bring in a 4th line forward who can PK (at least to compete with Foudy for a job), grab a backup goalie (I do not trust the Varlamov recovery), and bring in competition for Mayfield (they can bury him). I think early next season NYI will be in a position to decide whether to move a LD.

NYI are going to have plenty of space, even if they spend at RD, to be opportunistic during the season. NYI will have several ELC's, Palmieri, Cizikas, and Varlamov will come off the cap, while the cap goes up a ton. Yeah, that will be an interesting offseason. But it's kind of pointless to make judgements so early - lots of things can change.

There are really two possible plans - what I'm suggesting, and a fantasy where NYI really tear it down, and build it up. Horvat and Sorokin would be extremely valuable assets to deal *now*. On the other hand, this bizarre hyperfocus on a 29th overall pick is tedious. Like, I get MJF wants to bit the bullet and go full Buffalo. I think he's crazy, but at least it's a coherent kind of crazy. But so many people on this thread are just whining.
Well, I was just talking about this year, but the trend in the NHL is still to sign long contracts or give the impression you won't resign so you are traded to a club you then sign with. It's increasingly rare for teams to let their players walk when they don't look they will resign. We even did it with Dobson. My point was just that trying to improve the team through UFA seems like the least efficient way.

Only 3 more hours to put to rest if Lou is still in charge or not, if this Lousday goes by without a trade then we know Darche is actually in charge.
