Roster/Rumors/Speculation/Trade Talk - 2025-26: Welcome to the Darche Side

  • If you are having issues logging in, we have found opening the log in page in a new tab/window rather than using the pop out should resolve these issues. We are working to get this resolved and thank you for patience.
  • Due to the increased volume of league transactions, the Trade Rumors and Free Agent Talk section is temporarily restricted to where threads may only be started by moderators and sponsors. We anticipate that this restriction will be lifted some time after the first round of the draft.
I’m not really sure what everyone is so upset about. None of these players are moving the needle for us with how many holes we have. The bigger issue is Darche not selling off last season and making boneheaded moves for old players.
Who is taking bad contracts? There is so much cap right now there is no such thing as a bad contract in the short term. The Islanders are not rebuilding.

Why expect anything other than what Darche has been indicating all along...that last year's team and this year's team are going to look quite similar. Palmieri and Romanov are going to be like trade acquisitions for us and a full season of Pete DeBoer.
I don't always believe what I hear, this is Darche setting the bar low and if he thinks these 2 are Makar & Mackinnon coming back, he should look to find another Assistants job because he's not cut out to navigate a club and what evolutions need to occur just to have a chance to win the cup not just making the playoffs.

Once upon a time was a different ownership group. And the ones who committed to the Island turned us into a government jobs program.

Is this a jibe at the fans or Lou for his forever contracts?
It’s a wild change, that’s all. Lou actually provided the loyalty and stability in a way,to a certain extent the wrong way, however, players are willing to commit to NYI unlike the 90s and 2000s for legit reasons (ownership).

How many of the exact same post on the Schenn trade do we need?

We passed 5,000 last week, and the site's budget is 9,000, so we have a little less than 4,000 to go . . .

And if we break it down further:

99.2% think Darche is the anti-chr***
0.79% think he is worse

Kind of like that great Simpson's episode, The Three Eyed Fish, when Mr. Burns runs for governor and his first polling had him with 94% finding him 'despicable or worse'.

It's fair to point out that 0.01% supported it, but they left the site after being bullied.

The fish has a name and it's Blinky. Show some respect.

Hey y'all, Leafs Penguins fan coming in peace.

The servers can't handle a bunch of proposal threads in the Trade UFA subforum right now, so I'm not able to make a thread about this. Will post it in the Isles and Canucks subforums trade threads instead.

to New York Islanders
Lankinen AHL buried (4y @ $3.15m)
Nils Aman (RFA, cap approx $0.90m?)
( approx $1.10m cap space )

to Vancouver Canucks
Pierre Engvall AHL buried (4y @ $1.65m)
Anthony Duclair (2y @ $3.50m)

NOTE - Islanders can open more cap by signing a backup goalie for Sorokin making under $1.35m. For example, signing Reimer for $0.2m less than $1.35m (= signing him for $1.05m) would mean $0.2m in additional cap space is opened.

NEW YORK ISLANDERS
With Schaefer, the Schenn trade and almost making the playoffs, it isn't a full rebuild anymore. Ideally players fit properly into roles on the team. Duclair isn't fitting well. Lankinen would fit will as (an overpaid) #3 goalie AHL starter who comes up during injuries. Isles have no decent goalie prospects playing pro, so Lankinen won't be blocking anyone. Aman is an NHL press box guy or veteran AHL forward. The only real downside here is taking on $1.5m in additional cap for the 28/29 and 29/30 seasons.

VANCOUVER CANUCKS
Pettersson and/or Boeser and/or DeBrusk will be shipped out. There's going to be cap space opened and forward spots in the lineup opened. This swaps out Lankinen for a struggling winger with less term, and despite adding a bit of cap NOW, this move actually opens up $1.5m in cap space for 28/29 and 29/30 seasons. Lankinen gone also opens a roster spot for Tolopilo, who is no longer waiver exempt.

With bloated acquisition costs and a weak UFA class, I keep seeing posts/articles about how there could be more RFA offer sheets (yes, I know we hear that every summer because of clicks)...but this environment could actually make them possible.

Would anyone here be interested in offer sheeting Dorofeyev in the 9.3 to 11.7 range? The compensation would be:
  • 2x 1st Round Picks
  • 1x 2nd Round Pick
  • 1x 3rd Round Pick
Seems like a lot though...

Would love to OS at the $9,360,153 number to drop the compensation to:
  • 1x 1st Round Pick
  • 1x 2nd Round Pick
  • 1x 3rd Round Pick
The Isles are a potential lottery team - they can't even think about an offer sheet that involves giving up a 1st round pick. A Dorofeyev for Dupont trade would be a bad one.

It doesn't make sense for the Islanders to buy anyone out. They don't need the cap space and it creates issues further down the line rather than eating years right now. Waiting to use buyouts until you need to is the best way to approach them.
This. Especially buying out 1 year of a guy. Unless you NEED that space this year, bite the bullet and suck it up

With Palat's cap, they have 10M in space, with the buyout 13.3. Add 1 to each if Mayfield is buried.

NYI need two RD, and - unfortunately - the UFA period opens after the buyout window ends although teams can talk to UFA's starting tomorrow.

At any rate, whether there is a Palat buyout between now and June 30 will indicate whether NYI are acquiring a top 4 RD not named Tony.

The Isles would do this immediately. Not sure why VAN would do it though...

They need two defensemen and a backup goaltender, otherwise they're pretty set. That can easily be accomplished with $10M in space.

Barring a trade this will be the same team coming back next season and they'll be a bubble team again. There will be no substantial improvements to the roster via UFA so they don't need the money.

I think Lee genuinely wants to see if another team is willing to pay more for him than the Islanders are.
Maybe Lee is pondering if the Islanders are in a position to win the cup in the next few years. Perhaps money has nothing to do with this. The reporting and click bait on this subject is embarrassing. Rosner is clueless playing both sides. Just like Brock, It was time to move on for all sorts of reasons.

I think he’s playing ‘what are the best tax rate teams for my next deal?’ … over, where do I want relocate to and why?
