Roster/Rumors/Speculation/Trade Talk - 2025-26: Welcome to the Darche Side

Not an earth shattering move but the defense for Buffalo is deep. We need a young Right shot defender. I’d see if I could pry Maxim Strbak from Buffalo.
The draft is in Buffalo with the Sabres trading up to 20 and now 4th overall - Marek was right Jarmo wanted to make a splash... maybe trading back to 20. 13th Overall for the 20th overall and Strbak - maybe get our 2nd back too?

Just hope Darche picks a direction and sticks with it. No more of his in-between crap that gets you stuck with the 13th pick and limited cap space/flexibility

But if Darche decided to be "Lou 2.0" and go all in with this group by trading all picks and prospects for current vets, I'm not sure he could create a Cup favorite both because...

  1. Our team is too old, slow, and too many holes.
  2. The Cup favorites right now just have too much top end talent in comparison.

So just "sticking to a plan" is a bad plan. You need to have the right plan...And then stick with that.

These moves are very telling about what GMs think about the high-end talent in this draft.

It is incredibly rare to see a pick in the top 10 get traded, and now we've seen both the 4th overall and 9th overall picks move in the same week. With the market set like this, I'm not sure a pick like the 13th overall gets you very much on its own anymore. I hope Tynan Lawrence falls to us at 13, and if he does, we should just make the pick and call it a day.

Buffalo absolutely made out like bandits tonight. Not only did they land the 4th overall pick to add to their draft capital, but grabbing Louis Crevier in the process is a massive win.
I think it's been clear for a while now that this draft is not considered a very strong draft, at the top or throughout. Obviously there will be some good players that come out of it, but it wouldn't surprise me if this ends up as a pretty mediocre group.
That does not excuse some of the terrible deals made, but it does show that this year's group is not thought of all that highly.

I don’t know if Strbak is the difference between 13 and 20 but if all the top12 guys I have are gone I would make that move for sure.

Everybody still happy we didn't get Jarmo as GM?

Jarmo is the most active GM all the time. He makes more moves and trades than anyone. That’s not always a good thing. Yes, you can look at it and say at least he’s trying to improve his team or changing things but there’s also no time for any continuity. He’s always changing the team and moving things around.

Marek called it this week. He said Jarmo is one of the most active GMs at the Draft - trading up now 17 times. With the draft at Buffalo, he was looking to make a mark. He is a ballsy GM that's for sure.

Enough with your Chernyshov love, is he your relative or something.
Why don’t you save this for awhile and let it age? Have you watched him play? (Probably not). He’s gonna be a 30G scorer in 2-3 seasons.

I said the same about a young Dorofyev that the Isles should have targeted him bc he’s a goal scorer. Two 35 goal seasons later…

I'm not saying Darche had to make a blockbuster deal...but with the prices being crazy. It seems like he could have at least tonight pawned off one or two guys like Duclair, Sabby, Mayfield....

As far as a bigger deal..it's a shame that Darche is not capitalizing on a seller's market and Pelech playing 81 games this past season. If you aren't trading him this offseason, you are just oblivious....Every teams seems to be going after dman.

Not really...those aren't the kinda trades that have been happening. They were all trades for young skilled players.

So Pelech is not skilled (shutdown guy)...You think if Darche was working the phones he couldn't get a very good offer for him...I understand it ware getting top picks..but we could get a 1st and a good younster IMO

I’ll agree there’s a window open to shake up this roster. TBD whether Darche capitalizes on it or stupidly believes the clowns that went on an extended vacation are a bunch of winners that you keep thinking are somebody they are not.

There’s some hope. Dallas and Detroit have situations they need to address. Seattle needs to do something to put life into that franchise. SJ has 3 1st rounders they will flip one or two for player (or trading back for 2nd/3rds). STL has 4 1st rounders and a goalie to trade. Anaheim is gonna trade McTavish.

I don't think Darche feels comfortable moving Pelech with the current D-corp, but it's weird you brought up Pelech after your initial post mentioned 3 dead weight guys, but suddenly you make it seem like your post was for better players like Pelech? I feel like I've been bait and switched.

Seattle I'm hearing is in talkes with a sign and trade with Bufflalo for Tuch. So if that's true, not sure what Seattle will have left to deal.

There's no world we have any dealings with St. Louis after what they want and got for Kryou. I just think these GMS would runs circles around Darche.

Can we all agree, we are not making the playoffs with this roster? It's in our best interest to move Pelech. Our defense sucked last year with him....sell while he's healthy.

There’s not a lot of redeeming qualities of playing for SEA, it’s a directionless franchise, an interesting way to run it, and as a handsomely paid person in WA, he might get an accountant on speed dial to get the lay of the land there.
