Roster/Rumors/Speculation/Trade Talk - 2024-25: Re-Tool, Re-Group, Re-Mix, Re-Build

flame away.

Not sure if you guys are about to begin a rebuild, but say you are.

Montreal wants Noah Dobson (been some smoke) and we need a C.. Bo Horvat

Bo Horvat + Noah Dobson

1st 25'
1st 26'
2nd 25'
2nd 26'
Logan Mailloux
Oliver Kapanen
Newhook ???

Interested?

If you want Dobson, you better be prepared to involve Caufield.

isn't it beautiful and re/tarded.

If you guys need futures...Montreal can help.
I don’t think the value is horrible if a team was looking to tear down and rebuild(don’t think the isles are looking to do that) but Micheal Hage would have to be included, especially since you’re asking for both Dobson AND Horvat

How old arw you guys???

I'm 66 and had a thing for Deneuve too . . .

yeah, but if they do we'll get Washington in the first round who we can actually probably beat. if NJ somehow takes out the canes for us all bets would be off lolol
Well, it is the 50 year anniversary of the Cinderella Isles playoff team of 1975. ;) Barely squeaked in and damned near won the Cup (if they beat Philly in game 7 of the semis, I think they would have beaten BUF in the finals).

In retrospect, it would have been better if they missed the playoffs and got a higher pick. :sarcasm:

Understood.

Adding Marner as a UFA requires buyouts and cap gymnastics. Adding Pettersson might call for trading Noah Dobson +, which nobody here had a problem with last week.

Mitch Marner is now the shiny toy in the store window. The Isles traditionally could never get a high end player to sign here off the street. Therefore we’d have to trade for an elite skill player looking for a change of scenery. The Island is a low-pressure place to play where there isn’t the pressure to win here the way there is in Toronto. And don’t kid yourself, Vancouver is a demanding place to play.
I think it's pretty obvious why Islander fans covet every singe skilled rumored available player. It's not about the next shiny toy....it's about actually having shiny toys to begin with. Our chances of landing the best UFA, or the best available guy in trade usually don't pan out. I mean, we did get Horvat, but we are shunned more than we are asked out on a date. So of course Isles fans talk up anyone with skill and hope to get them.

Listening to sports talk radio in Vancouver, the conversation revolves around one key issue: the Canucks need this version of Elias Pettersson (EP40). But ultimately, only one thing truly matters—Quinn Hughes.

If the Canucks trade EP40 without getting a center of equal calibre in return, it could set off a chain reaction. Hughes, their franchise defenseman, would likely want out. There’s no one in the system even remotely ready to step up—not even Aatu Räty, who is still fighting to secure a regular NHL roster spot.

The team's recent moves suggest GM Patrik Allvin is committed to competing now. The quick trade of the Rangers' No. 1 pick to Pittsburgh for Marcus Pettersson and Drew OConnor (and their subsequent signing of long-term contracts) reinforces that urgency. The J.T. Miller trade, while debatable in value, signals their win-now mentality. Mancini looks like a great find for the right side of the defence, and Chytil is solid, although Pius Suter has looked even better.

Looking ahead, the Canucks’ best option is to repair their relationship with EP40 and get him back to top form. He’s looked the best he has all season, and with Vancouver competing against the Blues and Flames for a playoff spot, he will be key to securing the final berth.

In the offseason, a coaching change could be on the horizon—this is Vancouver, after all, and Rick Tocchet may take the fall. They’ll have cap space and Thatcher Demko as a prime trade chip to strengthen their center depth, which remains a glaring need.

One thing is certain: EP40 will not be traded this offseason. The Canucks can’t afford it—because if he goes, Quinn Hughes won’t be far behind.
I just read something that Chytil's career may be over.

Marner turns 28 this May. A seven-year deal would take him to 34. That’s a risk worth taking.
100% You said it all. If it somehow happens, unlikely as it seems, that NYI signs Marner, they are in a good enough position to make adjustments around him. If it doesn't happen, the retool occurs at a more deliberate pace. imo it's that simple.

I included Dobson because doesn't he want out?

It's more a case if the Islanders want to free up some cap space to get a forward Dobson or Pulock being traded helps us(then we resign DeAngelo to a cheaper deal). the idea of trading Dobson is that he will get us maximum value back(ie a legit first line forward). In the case of Pulock it's more that he would return us a cheap player upfront who play is worth more than there contract

I was also in the Kadri camp.

I like trading for him and having him and Horvat above Ritchie while that kid learns the ropes. Nelson is still raw and a bit away. I was fine with giving Nelson a 3-4 year deal so age and contract doesn’t concern me.

I also like the two way dynamic of Horvat and Kadri down the middle. Trade Pageau to free up the cap and we can still add a dynamic winger potentially.

Can we talk potential playoffs?

Big game tonight and W would put them 1 point out and with games in hand with teams behind them.

They play Columbus (twice) and the Rangers one more time in absolute must Wins.

Just a pure guess Barzal may be 2 weeks away from skating.

15 games left - 90 points might be enough to secure that 8th spot

The next 4 games @ home
V. Montreal
V. Calgary
V. Columbus
V. Vancouver
