Roster/Rumors/Speculation/Trade Talk - 2024-25: Re-Tool, Re-Group, Re-Mix, Re-Build

I'd take Marner in a heartbeat if he were willing to come here. And they could justify blowing up the salary structure on him - no issue with him making lots more than Barzal, Horvat, etc.. The big question, after Marner's willingness, is the owner's willingness. But maybe if season ticket renewals lag he'll feel the need to do something drastic?

The salary structure is going to get blown up one way or another with the cap rising like 25M over the next three years. People won't like it, but it's still fully within the realm of possibility we see Dobson get a higher AAV than Horvat

With the risk of this turning political I don't know if those rosy cap numbers are realistic anymore, very much in a wait and see mode.

$25m over the next three years sounded like a pipe dream from the start anyway.

Regardless of the ups and downs of the economy, Malkin is going to have a hard time getting people to pay $5-10K or more for season tickets in Elmont unless the Isles become legitimate contenders. Good luck with that happening unless Lou gets replaced.

Just because there was a Malkin sighting with Lou gives me no solace. He needs to grow a pair and replace the old codger.

welllllll........we beat the Pens and were within striking distance of the 8th seed again. Worst PK and worst PP in the league. fun season eh? not! Isles season ticket rep still up in my grill for 2025-2026 season tickets

Salaries will increase, but the Isles have been very incremental in doling out salaries vis a vis the cap. So, giving someone 12M+ AAV would be "blowing it up" relative to the current $9M high, but Marner's numbers would justify that kind of salary.

It is ludicrous that this team is within striking distance of the second wildcard spot, and also still within striking distance of the 6th overall pick. The race for the final wildcard spots in the East have been pathetic the last two years, but this year might be the most pathetic of all.

This post is an obvious political dig at Trump while saying you don't want it to be political.
Frankly, I didn’t see it that way. Many economists, irrespective of their political leanings, are suggesting a slowdown and some even a recession. In any event, this board is an escape for me and I have no interest in talking politics here.

The value of the Canadian dollar affects the NHL and is worthy of discussion. It could result in a recalculating of the salary cap down the road.
If Canada becomes the 51st state, this won’t even be a topic of discussion. :sarcasm:
