Intentionally or unintentionally, this is phrased in a way that implies that’s Brock’s decision, not necessarily Lou’s
I think it is his decision. He was reportedly offered a deal like 3 weeks ago. Now we have to see if Lou still tries to make the playoffs/ is willing to let him walk for nothingIntentionally or unintentionally, this is phrased in a way that implies that’s Brock’s decision, not necessarily Lou’s
I wouldn’t be surprised to see the deadline be a dud and we do nothing.Resigning Nelson and Palms is exactly what I expect Lou to do, and set the franchise back years in doing so. Fingers crossed they are both traded but the next few years are gonna be grim if they stay.
This means there is no chance Lou is even bothering taking offers on Pageau, Lee and anyone else over 30 who might get us some hope for the future and will only decide to "maybe" flip Palmieri/Nelson if it looks like there is no chance of them re-signing and whatever last minute garbage we are able to scrounge up with if we decide to trade them at 2:45 on Friday
Not only would it seem bizarre to me if he had it on a no-trade list for that reason, I would think going to a legitimate contender would overcome all of that. imo he's going to Winnipeg or Colorado with NJ being the dark horse.I realize Nelsons hometown is near winnipeg but I'd wonder if they are on his no-trade list thus requiring an extra step of permission
thats not a knock on winnipeg whom I'd love to see offer up someone like Colby Barlow
Being a real contender and him being UFA, going there for a few months shouldn’t be a problem, NTC or not.I realize Nelsons hometown is near winnipeg but I'd wonder if they are on his no-trade list thus requiring an extra step of permission

Rantanen is going to be dealt (or should be), I really wonder what return the Hurricanes will get.
Could wind up similar to the Vanek return, depending on the interest. Market for sellers seems to be strong, but Teams know he’s not resigning in Carolina. Interested parties may wait it out until the summer to take a shot.
Pelech/PulockIF lou decides to pull triggers - what are feasible returns for :
Nelson
Palms
Pageau
Dobson
TDA
anyone else possibly on the list?

Jaromir Jagr is young by Lou's standards.I’m sure the offer to Palms is in the ball park of 4 years. I mean, he is ONLY 34, and that’s young by Lou’s standards.

I honestly could see both of them (nelson and palms) going to the devs. for a lot of reasons. the devs traded palms to us, partly because of proximity and potential to win. there would be a reciprocity. lou worked for the devils. and it would be minimal disruptiojn for the 2 players, doing them a solid. which lou is prone to doing.IMO the Devils make the most sense to trade with, but so does Winnipeg
The Isles HAVE to capitalize on how desperate the Devils are after losing Jack Hughes, and their center depth is shot. You need a Brock Nelson in the worst of ways.
Engvall is untradeableEngvall
Fasching
Mayfield

do the Devils want to miss the playoffs and get scolded for it? The Devils as a whole are the antithesis of what Lamoriello does and they too have massive issues, but that lies thererin from their poor depth and injuries. Jack Hughes and Nico being injured hurts you a ton, Nelson is a stop gap and only as a stop gap. Do you give up assets to get both Nelson and Palmieri anyways?Do they though? If the cost to acquire Nelson is as steep as has been suggested then I'm not sure it makes sense for them to do it. Is a Hischier + Nelson 1-2 combination down the middle enough to win with? Does it make sense to unload all the assets necessary to acquire Nelson and know that they aren't even getting back to the level they were just a week or two ago?
Tough spot for them to be in. If they don't add they're punting on the season. If they do add it's going to cost a lot to make up for what they've already lost + improve.

As you said, its a tough spot to be in, especially after such a good start to the season.
Agreed.Engvall is untradeable
Fasching is an AHL player
Mayfield? Might have value to a playoff team, but who’s taking that contract without an equally shitty contract coming back?
