+11 on a sub .500 teamKyrou has vastly improved his defensive game, especially this season. He is nowhere near as lazy as Panarin. Team needs more offense/speed and he is both a short term and long term answer there.
After reading this I don’t think Nelson would walk away after his contract expires. I’m wondering if Nelson loves it on the Island so much that he’d sign a team friendly deal for less money and term than he could get on the market?Sign by deadline or trade him. I don’t want the risk of losing for free
Idk that the wild are Nelson’s childhood team. They didn’t come into existence until he was 9-years-old. I’d assume by that age, he would have already latched onto another team to root for. Maybe Detroit or Chicago?lol yeah this sounds familiar. would love to stay! plans to stay! ***takes a discount to go to childhood team***
I get that not every situation is going to be the Tavares situation and you need to take this on it's own merit. I just don't think the franchise can afford a "fooled me twice" scenario at this point in time.

They aren't buying out Mayfield.Given the increase in the salary cap, it might make sense to frontload a contract if the idea is to extend him. Not sure how the Bargaining Agreement works with this anymore.

Collective Bargaining Agreement
The CBA between the NHLPA and the NHL sets out the terms and conditions of employment for all professional hockey players playing in the NHL, as well as the reswww.nhlpa.com
I scanned through that but didn't see anything specific about contracts that have different salaries across the years.
So, say a 4-year, $30 million amount, paid out as
25-26 - $10 mill
26-27 - $10 mill
27-28 - $7 mill
28-29 - $3 mill
If Palms walks, we should be able to handle this. Plus, a buyout of Engvall and Mayfield saves about $4,200,000 per.
It’s in his control, so he sets how he wants to roll for the rest of his career. After reading this I don’t think Nelson would walk away after his contract expires. Can we lose Lou “for nothing”?Re Nelson, my assumption has been that it's unlikely that Lou would deal him with 21 games after the TDL. If Botta's correct that Brock wants to stay, then we can probably forget about a deal and just wonder what the next NYI contract would look like, or do we "lose him for nothing"?
Speaking of losing players for nothing, IMO this is actually a worthwhile read from the EDM blogger on HB. It lists all the better potential "rentals" (ie., pending UFAs) and groups them by likelihood of staying where they are or being moved. So, even if you disagree with the writer's groupings, it's a good resource. And in his opinion there are a lot of UFAs who are not getting moved at the TDL, so some teams are probably going to lose players "for nothing".

Maybe you don’t replace his 30 goals. The trade of Nelson won’t bring back a a player with similar stats. It likely brings you back a prospect and a pick. So maybe you hse this as an opportunity to let the franchise take a step or two backwards, restock the talent pool, and hope the future has us taking a step past what the team’s high water mark has been in this era.My concern is what/where the replacement and what is the value of it? He’s still a 30+ goal scorer for a team that can’t score. Replacing that is easily a $5/6/7M player.
I agree and have been a proponent of using the assets from UFA trades to do a Romanov like deal.Maybe you don’t replace his 30 goals. Replacing 30 goals can’t be what keeps you from trading a player that should not have his contract extended.
