Kyrou has vastly improved his defensive game, especially this season. He is nowhere near as lazy as Panarin. Team needs more offense/speed and he is both a short term and long term answer there.

I’d think St. Louis would look to move Buchnevich before Kyrou. He’s struggled this year and both parties may benefit from a change of scenery while he still has a M-NTC before his 8M per full NTC kicks in.

I get that not every situation is going to be the Tavares situation and you need to take this on it's own merit. I just don't think the franchise can afford a "fooled me twice" scenario at this point in time.

After reading this I don’t think Nelson would walk away after his contract expires. I’m wondering if Nelson loves it on the Island so much that he’d sign a team friendly deal for less money and term than he could get on the market?

I get that not every situation is going to be the Tavares situation and you need to take this on it's own merit. I just don't think the franchise can afford a "fooled me twice" scenario at this point in time.

Idk that the wild are Nelson’s childhood team. They didn’t come into existence until he was 9-years-old. I’d assume by that age, he would have already latched onto another team to root for. Maybe Detroit or Chicago?

Given the increase in the salary cap, it might make sense to frontload a contract if the idea is to extend him. Not sure how the Bargaining Agreement works with this anymore.

I scanned through that but didn't see anything specific about contracts that have different salaries across the years.

So, say a 4-year, $30 million amount, paid out as
25-26 - $10 mill
26-27 - $10 mill
27-28 - $7 mill
28-29 - $3 mill

If Palms walks, we should be able to handle this. Plus, a buyout of Engvall and Mayfield saves about $4,200,000 per.

I don't even think it's a fooled me twice situation, Nelson is past his prime and will only be a depreciating asset at this time.

Does the value he brings if he stays outweigh the value of whatever is brought in by trading him? I don't think so. I'd trade him and if he wants to come back on a team friendly deal over the summer the team can do that too. He's not a player in his prime that can change the course of the franchise if he chooses to stay so he shouldn't be treated as such.

That’s harsh and I agree.

I’ll add this. Losing him for picks and or assets likely makes us a little worse in the short run but gives us a better chance of building a base in the next few years. Reassigning him keeps us in the mediocre range for this year and maybe next, but actually makes us worse after that considering everything involved.

It’s in his control, so he sets how he wants to roll for the rest of his career.

There’s a difference when they are forced to adapt (trade, waivers, etc.) vs. a going in eyes wide open knowing your role, teammates, locale, etc.

Should Nelson go? Yes, the asset side of it.

My concern is what/where the replacement and what is the value of it? He’s still a 30+ goal scorer for a team that can’t score. Replacing that is easily a $5/6/7M player.

A scorer will decline, no doubt. He plays a soft game though. There’s not many anomalies on age, maybe the 39 yr old Russian guy is the only one…
