Lou needs to pivot and try to move older assets like #53, 44, and 24. Do not understand not selling off expiring contracts. Will be curious what term and dollar amount is for Palms.

The best spin i could give is that if Palms indicated he didnt want to be traded and wanted to stay and that he was willing to sign a reasonable 2 year extension to stay, then...I guess we do need players so he's a decent fit.
Palms can easily get at least 2nd + prospect. Lou should be telling Palmieri that either he trades him and can sign in the summer in order to get the assets back in deal OR he can be extended BEFORE the trade deadline for 2/3 years at HALF his current price in return for us losing out on trade return.

In 2 years all of Ritchie, Eiserman, and Nelson should be ready, + whoever we take with our probable top 10 pick this season. Let's call that player James Hagens for now. Cap will be up, and we could have 4 players on rookie deals in our lineup. That will give us the cash to throw big money at a player like Kaprizov.
The only problem with that plan is that when you throw the money at Kaprizov, he throws it back.

Why would he want to play on the Isles when they've been a bottom-feeder? The trick is to remake the roster while simultaneously staying competitive. Maybe take a step back for a year, but don't drop to the bottom or you might never climb back up. See BUF.

Not sure what Lou is thinking by negotiating on the last days leading up to trade deadline.
Not sure what he expects should the Nelson deal be the only move, it doesn't help now. Removing Nelson weakens the team so with that said, he should be either selling or building.
In my books, Lou has no direction or plan

We really need to all fully grasp this concept...

Lou does NOT trade players (for futures) unless he's FORCED to.

Happened with Toews (expansion draft), Happened with Ladd (cap), happened with Eberle (expansion draft), happened with Bailey (cap), and now happened with Nelson (he refused all of Lou's contract offers).

So Lou is NOT trading any other roster player today...Or until the cap, another expansion draft, or the player totally rejecting him happens again. Thus the next time you'll see Lou ship out a player will be a year from now when Lee and Pageau are pending UFAs (but it will be the LAST RESORT as you know he'll try to resign both first).

Lou has no concept on how to build a team. He's simply addicted to retaining anyone and everyone. 10M/year spent on Mayfield, Engvall, and Duclair. Think that cap spoace could be better used? What a Louser.

Holmstrom, Tsyplokov, Palmieri, Engvall, Lee all these middle 6 wings
Lou doesn’t think Eiserman will be in the NHL for how many years? Or is his only path first or fourth line?

He traded Brock because Brock wouldn't sign for what Lou wanted to pay. Palmieri apparently will sign, they're just working on details.
Extending Palms now makes the Brock trade make no sense. If you don’t sell off assets then you clearly think the team can still complete, so if that’s the case then why would you trade one of your best forwards? Such awful asset management from Lou in what is a pivotal point for this franchise.

I
I can't believe what a POS Lou is, a fraternity the Islanders are, accommodating 34 year old vets who I am guessing don't want to leave the area and as a result we have to suffer
I'm as hard on Lou as anyone though I don't think he is a POS. He is an 82 year old man being asked to run a business in which the average of the employees is 28 and how business was done 25 years ago isn't how it is done now. It is more cutthroat (see JBB, BZ and KM) and perhaps even a little less honorable but trying to swim against that tide is pointless. If Brock is where it ends today as far as significant deals for this team then that responsibility lies mostly with Malkin at this point.

I have a very serious question for Lou. When he says LOYALTY is important to him, does he mean the players or the fans? because he's only showing loyalty to the players. The FANS deserve the best product - not to keep the band together for one more disastrous show.

He doesn't give a flying f*** about the fans. He cares about the players and proving that his philosophy is still the right way to build a hockey team.

When Lou uses "Loyalty", the context is a psychological Tactic to explain his Illogical style of General Managing. The fact he treads water proves he only wants and has loyalty to his Boss Malkin and cares not about what the Fans think imho....

Wow, Winnipeg just became a very grindy playoff kind of team.

As for the Rantanen thing, they sure are milking every last bit of drama out of it with the TBD on Carolina side.
Carolina shows their true colors. They did no diligence on Ratanen - hope and pray trade.

Like what WPG did, but Hellybuck is either going to be the guy or not. He’s a big game wildcard.

Assuming Reilly is close to coming back, that makes 9 D.. Would think we have to trade one of them.. even in a minor deal for bottom pair.

And for everyone complaining, this day has been an annual frustration, so we should be used to it by now.. SMH on keeping Palmieri, but not surprised.

Rantanen winds up going for Stankoven and 2 firsts.
