Re-signing Palms is a dumb move. This team is doing nothing this year even if they sneak into the playoffs. This team needs to get younger and faster. Period.

I can't believe what a POS Lou is, a fraternity the Islanders are, accommodating 34 year old vets who I am guessing don't want to leave the area and as a result we have to suffer

Over the coming days??? You mean to tell me this sneaked up on everyone and we're making decisions on deadline day on whether or not a deal can be made?

Trading Nelson and re-signing Palmieri signals a directionless approach. And knowing Lou the curmudgeon, he won't fully explain the thought process behind this.

Weird, last time I checked if you do something that derives short term success, then it was actually a success.
Well, that is certainly the Lou Lamoriello definition, I'll give you that. But if you are trying to win a Stanley Cup and/or become a legitimate contender for it (non-pandemic aided) then short term "success" of the sort that the Islanders enjoyed (and subsequently misinterpreted) is just another way of taking yourself further from the real goal.

Mistake by Lou, but I do love Palmieri, he’s been really good the last 2 years.
At 34 how much is left that will help this team going forward ? This is not a good decision if the prices are elevated like they are .... Can't fall in love with a stock if you know its soon to head south

Extending Palms now makes the Brock trade make no sense. If you don’t sell off assets then you clearly think the team can still complete, so if that’s the case then why would you trade one of your best forwards? Such awful asset management from Lou in what is a pivotal point for this franchise.

The best spin i could give is that if Palms indicated he didnt want to be traded and wanted to stay and that he was willing to sign a reasonable 2 year extension to stay, then...I guess we do need players so he's a decent fit.
