Why are we so desperate/impatient to replace his goals immediately?

This is the cost of Lou kicking the can down the road the last few years - might as well stop avoiding it
Fair but then that’s where we disagree.

I want to make the playoffs next year. Trading Palmieiri and Pageau and thrusting Ritchie into the 2C spot isn’t for me.

I’d rather have a good team to surround kids coming in like Eiserman, Nelson and Ritchie now as well. Not interested in these guys going from juniors or college to starting roles of 18 minutes.

If we’re not replacing it’s a bottom 5 team and God knows when you climb out of that.

To echo others, if the reports are true it’s alarming (but not exactly unexpected) that Lou is still trying to sign all these guys, and just getting saved from himself.

100%.

People out here giving Lou credit, but he deserves zero. He had the universal #1 trade target on the board in a seller's market, and it was the trade target himself that made the deal happen. Lou had lots of teams throwing very good deals at him and yet it took Brock's agent screaming, "For the last f***ing time...Brock is NOT going to prom with you. Get it? Go away. Stop calling us." That's the only thing that led to the most obvous and sensible thing that literally everyone surrounding the Islanders was saying they must do - Other than the GM himself.

Now it's Palmieri's turn to play common sense GM with this zombie up in his grill...

No idea what Lou is thinking or going to do. I could see him trade our first this year for a young and emerging player either today or at the draft, like the Romanov deal.

Now that he has Ritchie and another first rounder in his back pocket he can't control himself.

Oh my god does Palmeiri NEED to be dealt...

that is just unf***ing fathonable, as said in this absolute sellers market Lou could be a god send and unload everyone over 30 and set this team up with enough assets to make this re-tool really quick with a dozen or so picks and prospects to be used as trade bait or just wait to see how they pan out, instead his priority is re-signing 34 year old Kyle Palmieri on a team that is going nowhere? There is something wrong with hin

So you want a totally unwatchable product that wins 20 games a year for next few years?

Let's take it a year at a time. Strategically, you want to be bad next season to get a shot at McKenna (or at the worst, another top 10 pick).

In 2 years all of Ritchie, Eiserman, and Nelson should be ready, + whoever we take with our probable top 10 pick this season. Let's call that player James Hagens for now. Cap will be up, and we could have 4 players on rookie deals in our lineup. That will give us the cash to throw big money at a player like Kaprizov. Your 2026-2027 Islanders could legitimately look like this:

Eiserman - Horvat - Kaprizov
Tsyplakov - Hagens - Barzal
Duclair - Ritchie - Holmstrom
Maclean - Nelson - Gatcomb

That's how you retool. Plus, you still have the 2026 firsts (ours and Colorado's) as ammo within the organization. Maybe we get even more assets for Palmieri or Pageau. Maybe Pulkinnen works out. Maybe Bednarik works out. Maybe Jefferies or Finley. But make no mistake, we're in about a 1000000x better situation long term than if we sign these players longterm.
