There is no “future core” if players in high demand like Nelson don’t get dealt.

You make it sound like we have a dearth of “gritty veterans” to help the young’ns, when that’s actually like 75% of the roster.

The future core is currently guys like Barzal, Sorokin, Horvat, Dobson as the main guys.

Again, all I am saying is you have to choose some players to keep. Just trading every single vet this team has, throwing 18-20 year old kids in the lineup, and saying play ball WILL lead this team to a minimum of 5 years of mediocrity.

Again, I am saying you have to choose someone to keep and for me I would not mind if they keep Nelson and trade guys like Palmieri and Pulock. If they want to keep Pulock and trade Nelson and Palmieri it is what it is. I agree selling needs to happen.

Would you trade BTkachuk straight up for Barzal?
I would but Barzal blocks it. Maybe a three way deal where he goes to Vancouver or Seattle (taking a guess that he would be more amenable to going there) with someone from one of those teams going to Ottawa.

The easier option, the way things are going, and the better fit for Ottawa, would be Dobson for Tkachuk.

Thanks, I would also do Dobson but I didn’t know if Dobson’s regression makes this a bad deal for Ottawa.

No, what does that do for us really? BTkachuk has done nothing to make Ottawa a better team. He's not his brother, not even close. He brother has that Xfactor..... Who's getting BTkachuk the puck in scoring opportunites on our team? Horvat, Pageau, Maclean? lol
There would obviously need to be other deals made but the Isles desperately need to change up the core. I’d also look to move Dobson in a separate deal.

All day long. $1M cap savings, he’s a goal scorer, PPG player, and he changes the dynamic.

Hanging onto the figure skater is just the status quo of much ado about nothing. The team needs a change at the core. Barzal is part of that core that’s not advancing the cause. Time for a change.

You think SJ or Chi would have picked him up from waivers? Otherwise Anaheim could have picked him up for nothing.
No one really knows on that. If he’s putting family first as he said, he obviously had concerns about living in SJ area and Chicago otherwise he would have said - go for it Drury.

On the ice, Anaheim may be ahead of the SJ and Chicago rebuilds. My guess is they don’t want to live in the Midwest (rejecting DET in the summer) so Chicago was a concern, if SJ didn’t pick him. Right now, in the medical profession probably best to stay out of Chicago. My guess is Greer didn’t want to deal with a possible disgruntled spouse/player situation in his rebuild so he was not going to take him, despite Stanford medicine not too far away (the players don’t live in SJ proper).

Ottawa's RD situation right now is brutal, so the trade would basically be need-for-need, and obviously Ottawa would have to figure out how to maximize Dobson's potential. We SHOULD be doing that ourselves, but it’s not happening, so we have a decision to make now.

Islanders couldn't do this at all???

The actual f***

Too bad Lamoriello is seen as a "hockey hall of famer" for the work he did from the 70's to 2000's, rather than his recent track work which has been very toxic and destructive regardless of team.
The game has clearly passed Lou by
What he values isn’t what the league is now
New ownership? Tavares fiasco, Lou brought credibility and stability

Time to move forward

I had season tickets, late 90’s early 2000’s
Was able to park in front row of coliseum parking lot, no bathroom or beer lines
Also, no fans
Would say good times, but it clearly wasn’t

Lamoriello brought stability but it was clear to let him go after 2020. The fact he is STILL here says that ownership doesnt care

No argument here
But when team is winning and making playoffs?
Hard for ownership to fire him

Prudent move would’ve been for ownership to force Lou to bring in a young successor

Don’t forget Maxim Tsyplakov, they need to find a way to sign him.

They can only tread water for so long, they need Barzal/Duclair/Pelech to come back ASAP if they have any shot at turning this shindig around.

The more I watch him the more I add him into the core. Hoping for a 3-4 year deal

Friedman reporting that a lot of players are reaching out to their agents about what happened with Trouba and it’s going to be brought up to the PA and will likely be a topic for the next labor agreement. As I’ve mentioned before, this is going to end up becoming an issue with future contract negotiations.

Here’s the funny part…the GM of the Rangers is a former player…

An issue?

A player not living up to his contract was in danger of being waived (completely within bounds of his contract since he didn't have a NMC), and thus decided to waive his NTC to continue to board charter flights instead of Greyhound buses.

The player should have lived up to his end of the bargain if he didn't want to be approached with options to be removed from the roster.

When you work in Manhattan, it is a cut-throat business and there is no such thing as loyalty. As much as I f***ing hate the r4g$, it's kind of refreshing to see a GM put business before loyalty. Whereas out on the Island, loyalty is king, and it has resulted in a friggen' country club.

Right. So the Islanders didn't waive a player they had on a long term contract a couple months ago?
