Must say, a bit disappointed no moves were made; at the very least for depth. This team has earned the right to reinforcements, and injuries are bound to happen.

Perhaps Lou saves his first for a draft day trade that helps the team now and for the future.

And will the Flyers just go away?
Flyers are doing it to themselves honestly.

I didn’t care if he added or he didn’t, but when I saw Dumba get traded for basically nothing I found it surprising that he wasn’t getting involved at any level.
They paid those prices with their full cap hits - Erik Johnson 3.25 and Matt Dumba 3.9. Isles couldn’t do that not for depth pieces - c’mon.

In addition, at this point in time I'm not convinced Dumba is an upgrade on Aho; he's really on the downswing. No point in making a move just for the sake of making a move - especially when you don't have the cap space. I'm glad LL didn't give up assets to add to this squad - stand pat and hope to make some noise; and re-evaluate in the offseason.

Black Hawks miss PO's for 4th straight year. rebuilding is fun! :help:

And still there is no guarantee that the team that they are building now will have any success.

I also think that Roy still being new to the scene played a part in Lou’s decision. Roy is still evaluating the roster and making decisions on who can play in his system.
Absolutely. Roy has enough to deal with right now, without having to deal with new additions and subtractions to the club.

Confused on why Lou didn't at least add a depth piece, but it takes two to tango and probably so many variables to fall in place. Hey, we may have a player in Maclean, a competent and proactive coach and have kept our draft capital. I'll take it and be content with that.

Mat Dumba is still Mat Dumba: he's not some amazing defenseman at all.
Allegedly, one of the reasons he signed in Az was because he bought ‘an investment property’ there awhile back.

He seems like a guy getting by on draft position and some raw talent. He’s kinda meh.

The Isles will be fine ‘as is’ for the playoffs. Sorokin needs to step up his game in the playoffs for the isles to go anywhere.

Every team in the East is beatable.

As a fan, isn't the dream of a Cinderella run to a surprise Cup win not be the ultimate reward as long suffering fans? Sorokin is an elite goalie, he's looked better under Roy along with the rest of the team. Barzal is the best he's ever been, Horvat is a perfect partner, and Brock is at his peak. Dobson is an assist machine and a legit PPG d-man, the defense is healthy. Palmieri could get hot in the playoffs, Lee scores greasy goals that are required in the playoffs. Roy is as charismatic as they come and everyone is buying what he's selling and has the team playing the way we had hoped at the beginning of the season.

This original core is playoff tested and proven, I think a lot of them know this is their last chance with the old guard. You catch a spark and our best players play like our best players, we could chew threw the East and then it's even money in the Finals. A Stanley Cup would be a Disney movie, a Cup appearance would still be magical with all the turmoil. We're riding a wave right now, you never know how long that ride could be.

If it fizzles out and we miss the playoffs or get bounced in the 1st, I think Roy has some sway with Lou on re-shaping the roster a bit. Even if we win the Cup, I think some changes are inevitable.

he's not an amazing defensemen but thats Tampa since 2021. My biggest issue is that they absolutely hold ZERO defense past Hedman.

I feel like we have seen Ilya play his ass off better since Scotty also got benched, so go figure. My biggest question with the goalie tandem is what we get out of Varlamov.

Yeah, really. That's just a lot to deal with. An extra player and all.
At the moment it is not ideal but you MAY have solutions with him down the line as the season comes to an end.

I am concerned that the top line is not a sustainable solution and if That means Nelson moves back to C then Maclean pushes Martin to the bench. Leaving a LW spot open on the top 6.

If they can find lightning in a bottle with Isk then that would be a shot in the arm.

With Cap space - Bortuzzo will skate with Bolduc as the 7th and 8th pair, leaving them enough to bring up one more F under the cap - They can bring up Gauthier OR see Isk at this level.

Obviously, Black Aces would be Gauthier, Maggio, Dufour, and Hutton when the playoffs begin.

This week’s sign that the apocalypse is upon us.

Based on that reply not sure you understand that salaries are prorated throughout the year, so any cap number is like 75% less of a cap hit now.

And I’d only go that high for a pending UFA, but the goal is to improve our D/pentalty killing and reach the playoffs. If you make it then there is no cap so Mayfield can come back no problem.

That is incorrect. The full cap hit 3.25 and 3.9 would go against the cap, especially since Isles are on LTIR.
The salaries are not the question... the cap hit is.

The Isles moving a 4th rounder for a D man who carries a 3.25 or 3.9 m CAP HIT. Isles do not have room to add that to their CAP.

Dumba and Johnson trades had NO retention.
