LTIR'd Hudson Fasching retroactive to 1/25.

I guess they're not expecting Cizikas to be out for long.

What veteran would you have preferred to take Cizikas' spot?
Calling up MacLean is a standard move. If
He steps up and steals a spot away from some of the dead wood - that’s what is on the table. Otherwise, he’s a temporary fill in.

People get a little too excited that a call up is going to be a difference maker or change all the teams shortcomings.

It would be great if he does demonstrate he can sustain himself in the NHL - the Isles need a sub $1M 3/4th liner on the roster next year. (And Gauthier ain’t it).

I think when Lou was quoted and I’m paraphrasing , “I believe in the guys in the locker room” I think he was saying “nobody’s is buying my crap and I have no other choice but to believe” I’ve always said and maintained, I liked him as president but not GM in todays game.

The moment he instered himself in for snow I was SO relieved that snow was gone, but I said the exact same thing. That said, I just don't think Lou can give up control to ever let another person run all the personnel moves...Unless he is forced to by ownership.

Malkin really needs to step in a do something. The franchise is really in terrible present shape, but things can get so much worse if the bleeding (Lou) isn't stopped.

Makes a ton of sense - I wonder if they move Cluuterbuck up to play with JGP and Holmstrom... Put Maclean with Martin and Wahlstrom and limit that lines usage to under 10 mins. of 5 on 5 play. Give the heavy lifting to the top 9. Not a sustainable model but it may help to string some wins together.

The only bloviated nonsense is this kind of fantastical thinking. The six contracts that expire this year amount to a total of $6.8M. So for that princely sum our GM is going to head out to the open market and find six players who will take this team from a perennial marginal playoff team to the next level? Good luck with that. Oh, but wait, the cap is going up! And so is Sorokin's contract. In fact, his increase is going to take up the entire Cap increase. All of it. So where are these improvements that you think are so doable coming from? You gonna move all the guys with NTCs and contracts that are already overpays and get better players in return even if they agree to move? How does that work? You gonna trade away even more draft picks to further cement in place one of the worst farm systems in the league already? And you call out others for bloviated nonsense? You and all of the people who think that there is some magical creative fix don't have a clue beyond wishful thinking.
None of us are 30 year experienced gms with cap specialists next to us. Most of us aren't pretending to be, so honestly you sound ridiculous right now.

Yes it is, it's limited to facts and numbers. Yours is limited as well, to hope and crossed fingers.
Facts, numbers and fortune telling. Feel free to make your edit.

Seriously, some of you need to complete some fact vs opinion exercises.

The franchise has never been healthier - attendance is strong, new building, & hosting the ASG in 2026.

Now to your point about roster construction/cup contention -
Roster construction is only part of the equation of Cup contention - winning is the only thing that matters... Look at the Bruins roster - are they Cup contenders? YEP. Their roster does not look like it. Is Tampa? YEP. Their roster also does not look like it. The Canucks were not considered cup contenders, because their roster was also considered flawed - what changed? Winning.

Can you elaborate on what do you mean by so much worse? And bleeding?

I agree. LL was brought in because of Malkin. The franchised needed the change. LL has built this team with handcuffs on transactions. The core has gotten older and play reflects it. This team isn't winning anything significant. Even if Sorokin becomes the second coming of Roy. They need to sell what they can for draft capital and start a rebuild. Maybe it starts with Malkin giving LL a nice tribute so he can ride off into the sunset.
