Likely doesn't figure into much... but that income tax calculator on Cap Friendly shows the NJ combined federal/state combination at 1% higher than for the Islanders.

(NJD: 39.06% fed+9.71% state= 48.87% vs NYI: 39.06% fed+8.60% state = 47.87%)

1% on 10 million is $100k take home.

it would be dumb to pay so much I would rather pay another top 3 centre 10 mill than have barzal and gaudreau at 10 mill...let the Devils and Ranjerks screw up their cap....we will get all the deals..
 
I was going to say that free agency day to me is like me being a Jew on Christmas when everyone else is getting gifts. But it's actually worse than that because here I have hope of getting a gift. Please for once in my life, let us get the gift.

Not that it matters, but they only pay state tax on half their salary. Road games are taxed in the road state.
