Win a cup is tough but a deadline type trade if they are in the hunt and a hot goalie can put them in position. They fire Lambert bring in a Sutter type then crawl up the standings and then make a deadline move that could help inject something, Longshot of course
Longshot indeed. All the while, the hole Lou has dug gets deeper and deeper.

I sincerely hope that Ledecky has already put the handcuffs on Lou restricting him from trading any more high value draft picks.

Some here , for several years could see the make up was missing parts , scoring, speed and when Andy Greene retired and Leddy and Toews got traded the framework was broken with patchwork being done and a GM who still believes. Deals need to be made but that can’t even happen as practically every player has a contract that no other team can take on whether it too long or too much. “In Lou we trust”

These guys are my favorite. Said we sucked all throughout the Lou era and now act like they were right. Find a different place to post these are a waste.

Lou really needed to fire Lambert directly after the Carolina game. We are wasting games at this point. I think you need to heavily think about trading Pelech. Pageau should have been dealt in the offseason as he will have zero value after this season.

Not sure I get this...

You're wasting games so fire the coach, but...Trade players that will guarantee you don't make the playoffs anyway?

Ledecky literally was parading around the last few years basically saying non-stop, "If you don't trust your GM, you don't have a GM."

The only way he's going to "handcuff" Lou is by firing him (and I think it would be Malkin doing that).

Islanders are abysmal and here are the 5 main reasons why:

  • Horrid shooting percentage- 39 goals in 16 games (2.44 goals per game). Only the woeful Sharks (1.52) and struggling Capitals (2.36) are scoring less and look no further than our dreadful shooting percentage (7.9%- again, ahead of only San Jose). Aside from Dobson, our other 6 defenseman are a combined 2 for 105 (1.9%) and Engvall, Lee, Wahlstrom and Pageau (who still hasn’t netted one and is 0/17) are a combined 4 for 83 (4.8%). Even Barzal, who is shooting more than he has ever been (3.56 per game) can’t buy a basket (3 for 57- 5.3%)
  • Giving up too many shots- Again, only the 3-13-1 Sharks are giving up more shots on goal than our Islanders who are allowing almost 35 shots on goal a game (34.8). It is just over a 5 shot difference on average per game, but when you consider we are close to 3% below league average in making them, that 5 shot difference seems like 10-15.
  • Dreadful penalty kill- Sharks actually beat us here, because after last night’s showing we dipped below the 70% success rate (67.86%) second only to the Minnesota Wild as the poorest penalty kill in the league. This is something we have been rather good at the last 3 seasons (9th, 4th and 6th) but has completely fallen apart so far this season
  • Not enough PP opportunities- They are in the top dozen in the league on power play goals allowed (with that horrid PK success rate) but what makes matters worse is they aren’t getting enough opportunities for themselves. 45 PPO’s in 16 games now which is .0125 ahead of the Capitals for dead last in the NHL. To make matters worse, many times they have seen their rare opportunities wasted by committing an infraction during the man advantage. Overall they have their success rate up to 22.22% (11th in NHL) but that doesn’t offset the fact that they are one of dozen NHL teams who have 10 goals or less. The power play goals/allowed of (-8) is the major reason they are (-12) overall so far for the season
  • SoroUCkin in net on PP- Simply hasn’t been nearly as efficient. Fat new contract and his 3.28 GAA is way over his career 2.38 career mark coming into the season as his save percentage is way down (.907/.923). Of course not having to face 35+ shots a contest would help (35.5 actually), but after 10 games he clearly isn’t as sharp as he has been. Of course a WHOPPING 60 of those shots have some when they are short-handed on the ice and unfortunately it has killed his overall numbers (.767 save percentage on PP- 14 goals allowed). He has an excellent .934 save % in regular action which is a career best for him actually and 2nd in the NHL right now

Good segment on the Isles starting at 17 min. Friedman says Lou was asking around at the GM meetings on who is available, he thinks Calgary's D are on our trade radar and thinks Wahlstrom is the one to watch on the way out of NY. Also believes Lou is still looking for a scoring forward (lol).

Also heard rumors of Lane potentially being fired on Wednesday but obviously didn't come to fruition. Believes Lou is evaluating whether a player change or coaching change is the answer.

He'd need someone to waive their NTC in order to do anything, there's no cap space. Guys do waive so it's not an impossibility but definitely a large hurdle.

Lindholm or Hanifin I’m all about. Both are really good players. JGP going the other way to make it work is a must if we are giving up yet another first rounder. Would love to keep the ‘24 first onviously but those two would help us a ton. Zadorov is a big boy too on the back end not sure what his cost would be.

I'm not advocating it due to the contract structure, but I wonder if Lou is interested in a retained Huberdeau. There have been issues there, so the NMC could be explored... and he's the only winger that has noise around them. Kadri/Linholm etc are centers.

Huberdeau is signed until forever, underperforming, would need 50% retention, and need to sign off on the trade. I'd be shocked if that were a deal that gets done. If they don't have Calgary on their list Nelson or Pageau could be sent to Calgary for something. I don't foresee that happening though (at least not Nelson). Lindholm and Hanafin should return more than what the Islanders could give. Not sure a deal would make sense for their side.

Why not both?

Anyone from Alberta on our roster? Those are the only ones I see waiving to go to the Flames.

That 2024 first rounder is sooo out the window...

Wanted to post that before we even started the road trip.

This doesn't need to be said. The real question is...

When with the Isles pick in the 1st round again?

The most annoying thing is that Lou is going to overpay (again) for a scoring forward who will not score as much once he plays for us.

I wasn't even thinking about moving a defenseman but that's interesting.
What about and this is only if you’re looking at shaking up roster something like Pulock and Pageau for Andersson and Lindholm? Isles are rolling dice with two pending UFA players and need to add something to deal I think but I wonder if there is something like this coming down soon for this team.

Actually just looked it up on capfriendly, Pelech and Pulock have full NTCs right now so they won't be going anywhere unless they want to. I never thought about moving them (other than cap reasons) because the defense needs more quality defenders.

I actually think Pulock is our best defenseman. Would rather see Pelech go.
