Some here feel Lou is the saviour who brought responsibility back to the Islanders , to some degree his name and past has done that but I think the solid ownership has more to do with it. As many who have read my posts know, I’m not a Lou lover like some and feel hes the butcher that is leading this franchise into a deep hole. The coach is not the problem, the skill on the active roster is! There are some good to great players but not enough !

The worst case scenario for this club is to on the brink of the playoffs come the deadline. Then Lou will trade for an expensive player at the expense of the future, only to see them drop out or lose out shortly afterwards.

What this team needs is a good and proper shakeup. Several players simply have to go. If it’s by way of trades, buyouts or demotions doesn’t matter all that much, but something’s gotta give.

I agree. Unfortunately the farm is so bare. There are no bluechip prospects. Isles need to accumulate as many picks as possible and start rebuilding the farm.

They'll triple down on this roster, watch

Trading for Horvat and then resigning Mayfield, Varly and Engvall all but eliminated the Isles flexibility for a retool. Those were “all in” moves which I wasn’t in favor of but regrettably Lou didn’t ask me.

The byproducts of those deals eliminated cap space and a pick and a prospect in the case of Horvat. Acquiring assets at last season’s TDL also would’ve given the Isles flexibility in a trade this past offseason or, God forbid, they could’ve drafted a prospect or two.

There are zero A level prospects left on the Isles. The only way to realistically turn the season around is for the current players to miraculously gel together or for Lou to acquire another player with the upcoming year’s first round pick. Chances are that pick would net a middle 6 forward or a #2 LHD. Does anyone here really think that’s enough to be a Cup contender?

With Lou still at the helm, we should be afraid. Be very afraid.
Or trade players off our roster for another Jack Eichel--a disgruntled player with a high end skillset.

trading for Horvat and keeping those players was an unfortunate need. The issue is that they need to keep firsts. The team is BADLY missing more elite talent. with this franchise having no ability to even get elite players, it just becomes a vicious cycle. We need to get rid of Lamoriello soon. His pose of building teams will not convince anyone to come over at all. Demidov would be an awesome pickup, but Lamoriello doesn't want a team that has young exciting players.

I agree wholeheartedly with your post except for the first sentence.

Once I knew that he signed an extension, I didn’t hate the Horvat deal. I’ll give Lou the benefit of the doubt that he had a gentleman’s agreement to extend him before the deal was made. If not, that was a remarkably dangerous move.

Once I saw Raty skate with the Isles I soured on him but that doesn’t mean flipping him in this particular deal was the best use of his asset value. Beau was a throw in to balance the salaries going back and forth. The first round pick? Ah, they’re worth so little and how often do they pan out anyway?

Now to the Mayfield and Varly deals. They’ve been ok this far but they are both declining assets and if you’re not winning this year or next then why sign players like that when you can trade them both to restock and inject youth into the current roster or the prospect pool?

Raty is struggling in the AHL. Beau is maddeningly inconsistent. The islanders needed more skill. I like Bo and he's the right fit. I like keeping Mayfield and Varly. But at some point you have to trade guys like Lee and Pageau. With the salary cap going up next season, I hope they can shed the fat and get younger. Ownership has to admit it at some point. I want to see them get Rossi from Minnesota if they trade Nelson by the way. I also want them to actually get more firsts. You cannot have enough young talent in the system.

But this is being realistic. The team would never trade Nelson or Lee or Pageau. They can't fathom it.

Yes, Yes, Yes!

Don’t get on that plane, Lane.

Lou: Lane, can I have a minute with you?

Followed a month or 2 later by this.

Ledecky: Lou, can I have a minute with you?

This team has got about ten years worth of contracts at nearly $20 million a year with ONE goal between them so far this season. That is incredibly bad management and coaching. If lambert is to go, then Lou should go too. After all, he put this roster together and handed out one awful deal after another that is bound to make this franchise suffer for a good number of years to come.

Gospel. Pure gospel.

I only wish Malkin & Ledecky felt the same sentiments as the above.

I get what you’re saying but every team will have a higher cap and use it to retain their own players. If they have additional cap space, they can use it to compete against the Isles who even with an increase don’t have enough space to sign a quality player. Last time I looked, UFAs aren’t lining up to sign with the Isles which makes it even harder.

Devil’s advocate would say that the Isles would alternatively shed salary in a trade. Problem is that no one is taking Lee without a major sweetener that we don’t have. Pageau? The time to trade him was this past offseason. I think his value is close to neutral at this point and may get worse.

Pageau is gonna have to get dealt and at a reduced value. Lee is impossible to move, we have to buy him out. Clutterbuck is done after this season. We should start showcasing Cizikas but he wont get dealt either. Lots of holes, not many suitors. UFA's hate long island but are perfectly fine going to Columbus. Why? Because they aren't set up as a military camp that allows for no beards and no long hair.

isles have to find a way to get out of this hole. Get rid of Lou, get rid of his lackeys, and get Tulsky from the Canes. Hell, even get a Tampa guy. We need to find a way to get solid drafting and solid coaching. They need direction for a "retooling".

Just some wonderings about this team and lineup for discussion purposes.
Is it time to move on from the Barzal experiment to the wing?
Has Nelson ever played LW?
Can Engvall play center?
If and when Ish get's a look? Could he play C or LW in the NHL. I could see him getting blown up against the wall in the bigs. He does have some skill for sure.
How long is Pelech out for? If this is a season that this team doesn't compete for the playoffs I would be in favor of our pair of 23 year old up and coming defenseman to play together and build some consistency.

Lou resigned every UFA he acquired, Horvat and Pageau were top five UFA- to bes

Every day that Lou waits to fire Lambert is wasting time. They should not be waiting until this road trip to make a move. 10 possible points until Thanksgiving and you would have to think they need to grab a MINIMUM of 7 and more realistically 8.
