Anyone excited about the season? I’m pretty meh, much like a year ago. Perhaps it has something to do with the mediocre roster, hm.

Happy hockey’s back, don’t get me wrong, best game on the planet.

I suppose the two storylines keeping me modestly intrigued are Bo and Barzal’s performance, coupled with any of the younger players/prospects making a jump.

I don't know if 'meh' is the word. As an Islander's fan, I only get excited about watching hockey, but I don't really get excited about expectations anymore. Even after two years of those conference finals, I still couldn't get excited about expectations.

If we are sending back the same roster that barely made the playoffs, I just wish it was a more exciting brand of hockey! A big mystery is how Lou can convince very successful owners that sending back the same roster is going to yield better results. The team’s depth is questionable and raises concerns should injuries occur. I’m just hoping that there is something coming from Lou before season starts.

I’m always excited, always a bit of an optimist.

With our goaltending there’s no feeling of meh or chance we miss playoffs in my opinion.

To dig a bit deeper, I love our defense despite me wanting another puck mover on the left side but willing to let Aho or Bolduc add more to that.

And offense I’m shaky on the middle six wings because despite Palms and Engvalls performance with Nelson guys are still streaky during the season. But down the middle it’s still arguably top in the conference. Plus I’m excited for Whally because it’s sort of his spot to lose in the lineup and we need him and with his contract status it’s a big motivator for him to perform.

Finally in terms of callups and depth, a lot of rookies and young players in Bridgeport got a taste last season and this should save us draft capital at the deadline. That’s always exciting to have young players on the cusp. Ishakov for example or even Dufour, I don’t think anyone had expectations of them being in the show last season but now they got their first pro season in so a call up means more now.

I’ve felt really out of hockey since the first week of July. Maybe when I see videos of camp and stuff I’ll get more engaged, but also maybe not.

I'm always excited about Islanders hockey.

The Bo-Barzal connection is the most exciting and most important key to the season.

Also, we have the best goaltender in the league.

Lou sells the owners that this is not the same roster from last training camp. That this is a full season of Horvat and Engvall and that they are significant additions. That Horvat and Barzal for a full season is what this team has been missing offensively since Tavares walked away.

I've been ready for Islanders hockey to return since the day we were eliminated. My enthusiasm for the game is always there. Since our pre-season schedule has us traveling no further than Philadelphia I'm hoping I can make it to all 6 exhibition games. But my expectations for this season are not high. I'm just able to separate my love of the game from what I see on the roster.

Yes. And the biggest things I'm looking forward to are:
- Are they gonna find a way to have Horvat and Barzal producing, perhaps better than they ever have before?
- Is Wahlstrom a scoring winger or a 30-point 3rd line banger?
- 5 pretty doggone good NHL Dmen. Is there a 6th one here in the organization?

Yep, that's it.

Would you bet against him now?

He just put up 57 points in 73 games most of which he was on an awful team and playing on 1 leg. Now he should be a lot healthier. I would never bet against that. Add in the fact that it would likely only be a 1-3 year deal. How could you bet against that? Id take him any day over Horvat and Kane wont cost us assets and will be less money.

The isles have always been my 1 team I will attempt to watch every game every season. The Mets or Giants suck? Well i dont bother. Guess I just love hockey. When the isles suck my focus shifts on hoping the young guys develop and watching the farm system more. I will say watching a competetive team is a hell of a lot more fun than watching a lottery team.

Ya know i feel like this team is being overlooked by alot of people. A full season of Horvat and Engvall, hopefully an improved Dobson and Walhstrom developing. If they have even a decent PP i think this team is a playoff team. Elite goaltending, very good defense, and a mediocre forward group.

I'm back after two months, and this is the roster of HF Posters that Lou has put together? Ugh. Same old guys for years. How are we supposed to win anything? At least Perif keeps things upbeat....

Yup. Such an upbeat, cheerful disposition.

I’m rooting for the perfect storm of upside performances and a lack of injuries. Hard to accomplish when the cupboard is bare but they have to play the games and anything is possible.

My under the radar upside performance for the upcoming season is Noah Dobson. Don’t ask me why because it’s not particularly grounded in reality. If it were to happen, our PP and offensive woes of prior seasons might seem like a distant memory.

I’ll go back on my meds now.

If you end up heading to Philadelphia let me know. I should be able to cut out of work and head up for that one.

Very happy hockey is back, but I'm meh on the Isles as well. Want to be proved wrong so bad, but I worry this team will be in the pit of mediocrity for a few years.

Let's hope we see the first 4 games of the BO/Barzal not the last 4.
I still think there has to be something else coming. I believe Wally is not going to be that
offensive gem we thought so maybe Gauthier finds some of his 2016-17 WJC-20
magic in his game

I have doubts about Wahlstrom too. I think he’s aiming to be more of a banger than a scorer.

A pretty meh season last year, but still pulled off 42Ws. I say they get 45-50Ws and two of the current teams from last seasons playoffs don’t make it. I’d like to see a bit more of the that ‘never out of it’ feeling that was there with Trotz.

It’s a long season, anything can happen. For the Isles it’s been a quiet offseason on and off the ice. Pundits are out in droves. Isles seem to do better as an underdog.

Fasching is a better 4th liner than Cal at this point
He is not - he doesn't PK and is not as physical as Cal.
You have to think about the role he plays and what is required.

Woulda, coulda, shoulda, he's basically the only contract among the top 15 NHL forward candidates who doesn't have to go through waivers to be sent down.

For him to stick out of camp would have to mean he just kills it from Day 1 while other fringe players really look anything from totally bland to bad.
Respectfully, disagree. He doesn't have to be lights out - he just has to be better than the rest, who are waiver fodder.
