I would love Gaudreau, but I'm getting a little nervous that Lou is going to do something real stupid. Didn't he offer Panarin $13M per? or was it $12M when he was a FA? My fear is Lou is determined to get him and offer him $13M+ Some insane roster killing contract to Gaudreau.... Man, just got a chill thinking about it. o_O

I was thinking about this and can imagine the Isles' owners telling Lou to go all in purely from a ticket sales perspective.

Certainly our biggest belly flop.

Has anyone on our team played with Gaudreau at any level? I can't believe we are actually having this conversation again. Every year, it's Groundhog Day here. Hope springs eternal.
He was just at a wedding with CC and MM on the weekend so he knows some of the guys but its a business/family decision

I like Klingberg but with Dobson’s emergence, I’m not sure he’s the one you pony up for (unless NYI is looking to run two right shot D on their top PP unit, which seems unconventional but not unheard of).

What's the downside of having MORE talent for your PP unit (and team overall)?

Indian Trail, N.C.
If he does sign with one of the two, I'd rather he just offer you an apology instead of sticking his finger up his butt.

Can we get this in layman's terms, because lawyer speak makes it sound like these rules are broken every second of every day.
Or at least spare the visual of said finger eh?

Pulock is actually better thank Klingberg. Klingberg will also cost much more than Pulock.

As far as trading Mayfield though, I'm pretty sure you can get a decent return. Thatch absolutely negate the Romanov overpayment.

That's definitely up for debate. One thing is for sure...Pulock is NOT better than Klingberg at scoring (especially on the PP).

Again it's about maximizing the limited things we have to trade. If you can find a replacement for Pulock (or any player) in free agency, then you can trade that player to get assets back and thus improve your team...And further assets to trade.

Well if it comes down to it, we can always send Calgary a nice replacement winger. Just a bit of a downgrade.

We should do that regardless of where Gaudreau signs.

Look. After JT leaving and the Panarin steaming BS, I'll believe we land a big fish when we LAND the big fish. ...Even then I may not believe it for a while.

All you can do is offer JG the most money. Can't force him to take it. Learned that twice. We shall see.

Actually you should offer JG (or any FA) the right amount of money. Personally I think making Gaudreau the highest paid player on your team (when your team is up against it) for the next 7 years ain't a great idea, but of course would be exciting to land a big fish.

I could really go for some Dippin' Dots right about now.

No problem...

I’m really hoping that the reference to HOME means “back east”.
Seems like the lay them down softly excuse PR. However, his wife is a native Philly girl, a nurse in Philly, does something with the childrens hospital, and got married in PHI. All seems like going home to start a family and want family around for support. So, if it’s Philly, he’s making a ‘hockey’ sacrifice as PHI is in no man’s land for winning anytime soon.

I think Lou has a good barometer on the internal cap structure. He's not going to go so high to alienate his highest paid players IMO when they took team discounts. He's all about team. I believe he will offer 9.5 in that area, for Johnny Hockey off of a 115 pt season, and a career where he has consistently produced. This should not ruffle any feathers. He would be the best player on this team, including better than Barzal. It's a number I would be very comfortable with. The cap we can worry about before game 1. if it happens, then Lou will jettison some cap/players.

stings for Flames fans. JT circus all over again

Much like the Isles with Tavares, the Flames dropped the ball when Gaudreau didn't sign last summer. He should've been shown the door.

After a player has been with your franchise for a decade and can't commit to your team the moment he's allowed to resign for whatever reason, he should be traded immediately...And especially talents like Tavares and Gaudreau. You can't let guys like that walk for nothing.

And don't tell me, "But the Flames were a Stanley Cup contender and they had to go for it." Going into these playoffs the Flames won't exactly 2 playoff series since 2004. The odds of them winning the Cup were minimal and now look at it...They're losing their best player for nothing, when they could've gotten a few assets to get them right back on track in the near future.

Now Tkachuk might want out and if that happens...They're probably rebuilding.

This was brutal and Flames management totally dropped the ball here.

Difference between this and Tavares is that we were out of the playoff race and at that point there’s no reason not to have a decision by the deadline. JG was in a more awkward position, I dunno if he could have been like “yeah i’m not staying” when the team is making the playoffs.

That's why management has to have the conversation with you BEFORE THE SEASON STARTS.

Anyone got the Flight Tracker warmed up for tomorrow?

I always have it warmed up. That said I think we'd need "Bus Tracker."
