Now that we've actually seen a couple of sign-and-trades happen in the past couple of years  I was wondering if there is any possibility that we see a buyout-and-trade? Before you jump all over that thought, two things. First, I realize that it wouldn't be an actual "trade". And second, I don't know if there's any benefit to the teams or players involved (that's why I'm throwing it out to the group to see if anyone with more knowledge can comment).

But the idea would be that two teams with vets they're working with to find a better situation get together, along with the players and their agents, and arrange for buyouts and then re-signs with each team (at a reduced salary with the new team factoring in what they're making under the buyout). It would be like if the teams just traded the 2 players for each other, except it would spread their cap hits out into the future when the cap should go up.

I realize it sounds crazy, but with all the other wild speculation I thought I'd throw out a different kind of wild speculation.

Kings trade Durzi to Arizona...

Come on isles how do you not get Durzi???

Is this a case of complaining just to complain or will Durzi be a middle pairing defenseman? It cost a second round pick to acquire him which I would like to see the Islanders either use to get rid of Bailey or just use the pick for once. Durzi needs a contract if I am not mistaken which will be an upgrade on what he is currently getting.

More because he's a puck mover, and I wanted him to improve our powerplay.

There are cheaper ways to improve the PP. The Islanders had a top 12 PP the year before this. They need to get a new PP coach.
It’s a rainy Saturday so I had a few extra minutes and I thought I’d put those stats in perspective.

The Isles were 12th on the PP in the 2021-22 season. One percentage point higher and they would’ve been 10th. One point lower and they would’ve been 17th. That’s not great.

You have to go as far back as the 2017-18 season to find an Isles team with a top 10 PP.

Otherwise they’ve been solidly in the bottom half of the league on the PP.

Change the PP coach? Sure. Get more skilled PP players? Even better. Hopefully Horvat fills that void this coming season.

Doubt we fire the PP coach who was terrible
I’d be shocked if Maclean was back next year to be honest. Lou went out of his way during his press conference to clarify that saying Lambert will be back was NOT saying that the rest of the staff will be too.

Add on top of that that Maclean was a last minute panic hire anyway after the Wiseman situation and all signs point to him not returning.

Fingers crossed he is fired

Let's start with....The Isles probably don't have enough cap space just to resign all their FA's.

Then...The Coyotes (and numerous other teams) have way more picks/assets to offer any trade partner.

That's how.

Shit is happening

No doubt "shit is happening" and will be over the next week.

Sadly without either trading a big name like Nelson or another top pick to get rid of a bad contract we won't be part of anything significant.

Flyers, clearing cap and cutting that way I wish we had this type of balls

"Balls" or smarts?

Balls. Bailey and maybe even Cizikas/Pageau.

Pageau for his role and production is overpaid and now that we have Horvat he’s even less important. I love Pageau but you can today a guy like a middle six center that only wins face offs.

This really is the answer.

Fire yet another assistant coach who is responsible for the power play? Barzal, Nelson, Lee, Pulock, Bailey had 7 years to get it right and couldn't . Smh.

I really like Connor, but i think we would be making a mistake moving Barzal.
Not as much of a mistake as you think. The salaries of Connor and Wheeler would be tough to swallow though.

Horvat
Nelson
Pageau
Cizikas

Not trying to be a jerk here, but isn’t Horvat supposed to be that 35 goal center?

I think a young pmd and a 1st round pick should be a fair return for Brock Nelson.
Update. The rumored return for Kevin Hayes will be a 1st round pick from the Blues,

If Hayes can net a 1st rounder, Brock Nelson is worth a young pmd PLUS a 1st AND a 2nd round pick.

What team has those assets? And wants/need Nelson?

I would still rather hold onto Barzal. I know you arent as high on him as I am. If Lou is gonna shake up the core more Nelson or JGP. I say Nelson because he would net a haul, but I would miss him. I wonder if we could go to Detroit and get that 1st+ for him. Id love to draft Yager if he were still on the board.

I think a ton of teams would be interested in Nelson. 35+ goals while getting responsible defensive play, and a cap hit of 6 million. Not many of those guys out there.

Of course, but asking OP for examples of packages? We know Blue jackets would like a C - is Boquist, 2024 1st, 2023 2nd a good deal? or Nashville for Fabbro, 23 1st, and 2nd a good deal for Nelson?

Or who- what young PMD man - Someone like Byram? Or someone like Sandin? Or someone who has yet to play an NHL game?
