No thanks, Garland has three years left and apparently can be had for free and Mikheyev is coming off a knee surgery if I recall correctly.

What scares me about Engvall is that while his speed is nice, the Islanders can’t keep committing to 30-35 point players.

The Islanders need Engvall to grow into a 55-60 point forward if they re-sign him. I don’t know enough about him to be convinced he’s going to become that for the Islanders.
Agreed on that, hopefully he can be the next Nichuskin.

Someone on the trade board mentioned that CBJ could trade Adam Boqvist since they now have Severson, Peake and Gudbranson as RHD with Jiricek knocking on the door. Not sure if there's any truth to that, and I'm not familiar with his NHL work (remember him from his draft year though), but that seems like a phone call worth making. Not necessarily related, but CBJ supposedly is looking for a veteran C.

A lot of the chatter about Engvall is that he's so infuriating to watch. You can see the spark and the potential he brings, but he'll disappear for 10 games. I worry that he'll do exactly the same. At this point we're just banking on hope with him, which scares me given the cap situation (I still want to bring him back at a reasonable price).

The Islanders are committing so much money to their center ice position and have incredible depth.

If trading Pageau can fill a hole on defense or on the wing, that may be worth the downgrade to Bjugstad.
Bjugstad had 17 goals last year, perfectly acceptable for a 3C
Pageau to St Louis for Kubalik and sign Bjugstad is acceptable to me
Buy out Bailey and with the cap space find a team desperate to free salary like Vancouver or Boston and take advantage
If Boston can't afford DeBrusk while bringing back their core for one more run, let's offer Wahlstrom and Bolduc for DeBrusk and see if we can steal him.

Then you don't need to worry about paying Engvall since he won't be needed. Or offer Wahlstrom and Bolduc for Boeser. Either way, you've upgraded the goal scoring at the cost of two pieces we don't know will ever be impact players.

And if Toronto would do Barzal for Nylander or Winnipeg would do Barzal for Connor, that's another way to re-create the team.

Lee - Horvat - Nylander/Connor
DeBrusk - Nelson - Palmieri
Holmstrom - Bjugstad - Kubalik/Boeser
Parise - Cizikas - Whatever

That's a very different look for us, with more finishers and less puck hogs

I agree with you on Engvall.

The Pageau trade suggestion simply fits - it is a hockey trade. Vancouver needs and is looking for exactly what Pageau can give them. Pageau for Garland or Mihkeyev - looks to fit $, cap, and positional needs for each team. If a trade for Pageau is not a hockey trade and it is one for picks and prospects, then I am not sure if Isles get the value they are looking for this offseason with the cap being flat. Another hockey trade could be a Pageau for Girard deal. Both these hockey trades, basically moves 5m from 3C to LHD2 or RW 2.

Also, Garland is a very good hockey player and last season was tough for him, but he still produced and his speed and grit would be a compliment to the F group.

And Mihkeyev when healthy would add a lot to this F group -speed, size, and skill and probably fits what Lou wants up front.

If they stand pat, then I would move Barzal back to C and move Nelson to his W. They were very dangerous in the few shifts they took together last season.

Nelson - Barzal - Wahlstrom
Lee - Horvat - Palmieri
Parise - Pageau - Holmstrom

Winnipeg is an interesting partner to me.

Their 1C won’t even sign with them and their 2C is a year away from UFA, however they are apprently still looking to stay competitive.

Also, I’m pretty sure they’re looking to move their Captain and have a overpaid yet adeqaute defenseman that they wouldn’t mind getting his contract off their books.

I haven’t even mentioned their goaltender, but that situation currently doesn’t help or hinder NYI.

With all that said, there’s potential for a major blockbuster of multiple players (rights? Mayfield, Varlamov, etc.) on each side to be moved.

Bogvist is young and has potential but he's lost a lot of games due to injury in his 4 seasons as pro.
season1- 26 games injured
season2- 21 games injured
season3- 30 games injured
season4- 36 games injured

Just spitballin- Toffoli or Zadorov???? TT is 31(older than I thought) and Z is similar to Mayfield but LHD. I think I just talked myself out of this. Our cap is a mess as well!

Gonna be a long offseason. I will go on the record that I love Bolduc but not sure he is fully ready.

It takes two to tango -

And according to EF, Columbus was aggressive in pursuing Severson. Lou may want to make that deal but he requires someone who doesn’t want to wait

Naturally, that's why I wrote what I did in response to Osakahaus' post.

...Because the UFA market is looking to be so poor that there could be teams willing to pay for Mayfield's rights now rather than have to battle for him in free agency.

And that's if Mayfield would be ready to do such a sign'n'deal thingy.

I think that Lamoriello wasn't spending nearly 7M on SEVERSON

if you move JGP and figure a downgrade is ok to help on D or Wing my choice would be be give Iskhakov an extra long chance .
it will be season 6 post draft for him . It’s time . He did very good on the Tigers last season . He makes less than 1 mill and is RFA in a year. Give him a chance before he becomes the next Rhett Rakhshani and disappears into the night. His minutes can be watched . Horvat can double shift late in games to take the face offs . So many reasons to say yes yes yes for this kid .. You may think he needs more seasoning . Well so does my wife’s bland cooking . We can’t keep loading up with old guys.

and a spot only opens up if you make a trade or injuries pile up …LGI

I can’t see him not going to FA now. Why would he not. He is at least going to hear what his market value is. I think he is prob going to price himself out. Plus we still have to move Bailey to have any shot at signing him. Part of me thinks he should have been dealt before the deadline. I’m sure he would have provided a solid return. Even last year might have been time to move him. His contract was so valuable.

Pageau seems like he’s lost some it a bit due to his hand injury, however, he’s still a valuable player in his role.

I would say Lou’s presser seemed ‘neutral’ at best on a particular center doing what’s best for the team and moving to wing.

I also think Bolduc is a player and has a future, the small sample size we saw was impressive IMO and would hate to see him included in a trade.

Just looking through the last few posts-

Engvall was one of our better players down the stretch when it came to transition. He actually did a nice job of supporting the breakout. I'd be happy to see him return.

Pass on DeHaanQvist. To frail and would prefer a flyer on Bean.

Don't know if we have assets for Toffoli but likely for Zadorov. Good replacement for Mayfield.
