Not sure if this was posted here but yikes…

Yep, that's what it looked like too.

I guess we'll have to look at them as primarily forced errors due to that relentless Carolina forecheck, but all I can see is that Pelech flub that led to Stastny's disgusting OT goal to end the series.

Feels like those things did us in when all was said and done.

Yeah, he elaborated later as to why they were so bad, and it's exactly because Carolina's forecheck was out of this world. It makes sense.

Honestly, it's really impressive that this team stuck with the Canes in all but one game. Sure Sorokin was a big part of it, but they manhandled the Devils, who is a really good team.

Do those D stats condemn the Isles' defenders or their coaches? Also have to give credit to CAR for their high pressure style.

Leafs fans are in full meltdown lol they want Tavares Matthews and Marner traded.

I’d kill for Marner

Ug...You have to be kidding.

He's certainly exciting in the regular season, but when it comes down to when it counts in the playoffs his game drops off....All for nearly 11M/year.

He is still nearly a point a game playoff guy for his career, I just dont see a trade with any team that leafs would win by trading him. Would leafs trade matthews, that’s going to get interesting if contract talks don’t progress this summer.

The poetry that would ensue if they don't trade Matthews and he walks in a year.

I heard he has Coyotes bedsheets so you know...

He’s an elite offensive and elite defensive winger. Legit 90+ point guy. I’d take him in a heart beat. The key is not paying the best 4th line in hockey and fill out the bottom 6 with Hudson Fasching type guys.

I’m a huge Pelech fan. But that third period was the worst roll-over job I have ever seen from this team. That includes that game 7 against Trotz and Washington.

Of all players, Pelech’s “seemingly” unforced lobs out of the zone stood out in that debacle.
I’ve pointed out through the season that the league had figured out that you dump in on Pelech’s side and get on him quickly because he tried to make too many plays instead of wrapping it around

This would be such a great move. The canes are a budget organization but absolutely know how to unearth undervalued gems. This is the opposite of what Lou does with a heavy handed approach to roster building and never looking to save on the cap. The Canes have basically perfected the type of team the Isles want to build.

Malkin are Ledecky have to be smarter than just handing over the reins to Chris. Islander fans are already furious by the teams roster. Add nepotism to the mix, and you'll have pretty poor season ticket renewal results.

It's time to move on from Lou. The last two seasons have been unacceptable in terms of roster building.
I believe that the Canes secret to success is their identity and systems, bringing in/drafting players who fit into Brind'Amour's style of play......pressure the puck, pinch up with all 5 players, throw almost everything to the net, and skate, skate, skate. You need player buy in and I am sure that nobody sees ice time who doesn't fit into that system. It is a risk playing that way unless they do execute and support each other. The weakness will be if they will wear down.
Islanders are build a different way.

Friedman on 32 thoughts today said that former NHL business exec John Collins is expected to join the Islanders organization on the business side of things, but as of right now he doesn’t envision any changes to management on the hockey ops side.
Wow. Collins is a huge get. Maybe he’ll pioneer a team doing its own streaming service so I can get rid of shitty Sportsnet. ;)

It's an absolutely idiotic take to just assume that Chris "sucks." No one here knows shit about whether or not he would be a successful NHL GM. I'm with you. I have no opinion about him. But if he had a different last name, I bet many of those claiming how horrible he is would be singing a different tune.

Personally, I think that if the Islanders move on from Lou, an established NHL GM with experience to replace him would make most sense. If/when the Isles embark on a rebuild, I'd welcome a neophyte to "learn on the job" and maybe have some innovative ideas. Someone with similar credentials as Chris L.
I'm sick of the retreads. Which experienced NHL GM would make sense? Holmgren? Shero? Rutherford? Chiarelli, perhaps?

The Isles need somebody who thinks outside the box and understands that hockey in 2023 is different than 1990s. Best case scenario for the Isles wound be a Lou type figure as president and a "new age" GM like a Tulsky as GM. Our problem has been talent evaluation the last couple of years. We need somebody who can objectively evaluate players does not fall in love with its own roster.

I hear ya. I'd be more than fine with a "new age GM," especially if/when we rebuild. But how do we know that Tulsky is a better option than than Chris L?

They're past the foundation part though, the building should've been completed by now. What even is their foundation? They have a million UFAs and no money to do anything, again.
You're right. They're way past that. That's something a team like Buffalo would say. They missed the playoffs but have a good group moving forward.
