Anyone think Holmstrom should be sent back down? I don't think he's bad, and he does a lot of little things right, but the production isn't there yet. I think he should be back down in Bridgeport to get some offensive confidence back.
Eventually yes, but we still have 3 forwards on IR, and he's been the best of the Bridgeport call ups. So, I think it makes sense to keep him up until at least JGP is healthy, maybe until Barzal is too. But ultimately, I'd like to see him get more development time in the AHL.

Re: Holmstrom, maybe he'll be like a Kenny Jonsson. Jonsson focused on his defensive game when he first came up and people were disappointed in him. Then after he established his defense, he started to contribute more offensively and ended up being great.

It is a team seriously lacking in talent, even more so when 3 of their best "scoring forwards" are on the shelf.

Give credit that they have been able to stay in it this long basically by "hanging in there" and with Sorokin of course.

The best thing again to have done (excluding the Horvat trade) once you knew Barzal was lost for an extended period was to sell at the deadline, but we didn't so it is what it is.

This is a team that only really has 7 forwards right now on the NHL roster who you "might" want on the top two lines and that is Horvat, Nelson, Barzal, Palmieri, Lee, Pageau and Wahlstrom. Parise is an 8th if you just had to, but ideally he is on a 3rd line giving it some punch...

When 3 of those 7 are out of action, it can really show on most nights.

Lol, why is it like this after every loss. Isles need to go 3/4 every four games. Even Butchie said that is what they should be shooting for. They just did it a weird way by losing to the weakest of the four, but after the emotional ups and downs of the previous game, let down was to be expected. Not even like they played that bad against the Caps, the Caps just played really well.

Back to another 4 game stretch. It's time for you to just sit back and be quiet. You can complain if we don't make the playoffs, for now...nobody cares to hear it and it'll be less crow you have to eat if you put a lid on it now.

I dont have to sit back and be quiet, this is a message board. Don't want to read it, move on.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with offering up my opinion and still be cheering my team on (which I am). It does not make me any less a fan. Hell, I would argue it makes me more of one since I am being more sincere about our chances than those who actually think we got a snow balls chance of winning the cup this year (and therefore arguing how we shouldn't have sold).

I did not say we can't make the playoffs (the 8th seed, because I don't see us getting any higher) so what crow am I having to eat? Specify the dish

Ya need to accept different fans points of views and stop labeling it as just complaining. Nothing I said could not be argued (and likely successfully) to be completely factual...

I start Sorokin against Kings and Ducks to hope to steal a point or two against the Kings. they must beat the ducks and sharks- a must! If they could take 6 out of 6 points this weekend that is HUGE for the 7th spot.

The next week -

@ kings
@ ducks
@ sharks

Pens 78 pts in 66 GP
MTL
@ Rags

When everyone is healthy - except Wahlstrom who is out for the year - how do you line them up?

For me -
Lee Horvat Barzal
Parise Nelson Palmieri
Engvall Pageau Bailey
Martin Cizikas Clutterbuck

Holmstrom and Fasching step in for Engvall Bailey or Clutterbuck in case of injury or poor play.
Johnston for Martin

I think I start like this.

Is there any real timeline for Barzal? If he's back a week before the season ends, that doesn't do this team well.

My guess it is an injury that is 4-6 weeks or 6-8 weeks. We know there was no surgery - looking Kaprizov injury 3-4 weeks for LBI.

The 6 week mark puts it to the end of March, giving it about 2 weeks before the playoffs.

I hope you're right. Problem - Rangers have not been good. Didn't play well yesterday and were given a gift in Buffalo.

Fasching has to be in for Clutterbuck. Love Cal but the only thing he does better than Fasching at this point is hit

I disagree - Cal plays a heavy game yes, but IMO he is more skilled player with a better shot. He is a very good penalty killer.

I am a fan of Fasching - I love that he drives to the net - his hustle and board battles have been a shot in the arm.

I go with Cal.

Re: Clutterbuck vs Fasching, when a guy has missed a stretch of games they're generally not good the first game back and then gradually get their game back. So I'd give Clutterbuck a game or two more.

go with Clutterbuck, especially down the stretch. Personally, would rather have Fash over Bailey and Holstrom at this point. eh... What do I know?

Don't look now but The Athletic has Sebastian Aho as our most valuable defenseman. Moneypuck has him at #2. Obviously the analytics don't consider the eye test and the clear specific plays where you can see him get physically moved off the puck - but we are out chancing opponents over the long run with him on the ice. Here are the market values for our D according to The Athletic

Aho - 6.3M
Dobson - 4.9M
Pelech - 4.7M
Pulock - 4.0M
Mayfield - 3.0M
Romanov - 1.7M (this was negative last time I checked, a huge jump)

These models always prioritize offensive production as it's easier to clearly create a scoring chance than to stop one... but still an interesting development
