Ya, I dont know why peeps are suggesting Lou is going to do something like trade Nelson when it is so out of character for him. For a team that needs scoring, you aren't trading one of the few who do it consistently each season. He has yet to show me he can make a deal that requires any real chess moving on his part either...

Nelson isn't going anywhere and I doubt he has the insight to trade Varlamov or Mayfield even if we are still looking up for a playoff spot or even worse then we are now come the TDL.

Focus should be on getting better and hoping should he make more moves it is bringing players in who can revamp/replace this roster full of overpaid 3rd liners or give us considerable help on the blueline....

I was actually all for moving nelson until they got horvat. Now moving him makes zero sense.

Team needs to move Lee before Nelson for cap and speed reasons. I know he’s the captain but once he signed the big contract it created a weight and unfortunately we are not surrounded with speed. If there is a trade for him , we need to make it .

Vrana was recalled, does anyone know why he didn't have to go back through waivers again? or does that not happen anymore or is this a special case?

I don't believe there is much a market for Lee. Also, I don't feel he is a problem - on pace to score 28 goals this season, leadership skills are key as well as being a beast on the walls and in front. Lee is also owed 9 m next season and has a full NTC.

Nelson on the other hand - there would be a market if he was made available. He also owns a partial NTC - 16 teams.

If Lou wants to make a bold move this offseason - Nelson would be it.

Cutting dead weight like Bailey isn't going to get this team over the hump.

There probably isn’t a market for Lee and for that reason if there is a suitor, you move him. He might not be the problem but if other teams don’t see value its probably because his weaknesses outweigh the strengths

With the TDL weeks away, My preference is the Isles trade Mayfield, Pageau, and Varly to add some needed assets back to the cupboard. Draft capital. Most playoff teams value D and G. Also from a team chemistry point of view, this team needs to change the chemistry that has been missing since the isles lost to TB in game 7, 2 years ago.

Damn it. They lost that game? I had it DVRed.

the thing is we are never going to suck enough with this goalie tandem....so we are kind of stuck with bad/mediocre players with bloated contracts...Lee Bailey Palmeri all is going to hurt us still no matter who we trade.

And we won't be bad enough to pick top 5 unless you get rid of Sorokin which I don't think will happen neither.

So if we get rid of Nelson we get rid of how many goals? how are we going to replace that?

so we are just stuck in a really bad place imo.

We need to shake it up. A new GM comes in and finds a way to move guys like Lee, Bailey and Casey. Need to shake up the defense too, a trade involving Pullock and/or Romanov. Nelson can give us a nice package. And again with moves with some of these guys, I don't necessarily think we would be tanking. I think you trade Nelson, Pullock, Romanov, Mayfield, Vary....you are getting good pieces back could make our roster much younger and faster. New coach with a new system, get Brazal a sports psychologist about stoping f***ing holding the puck and skating around for a 2 minutes as his teammates just sit and watch him.

Lee has another year of full NTC protection after this one. Good luck.
Ryan McDonagh had a NTC as well with TB and they were able to move him. They force him to accept the trade....that's what our new GM needs to do with some of our guys who have NTC

Cross posting my response I’m the OTT GDT to Beloved asking who would be a good next GM choice for discussion:

“My main guy would be someone like Eric Tulsky at eliteprospects.com. Very well regarded up and comer who is analytically strong and really understands the modern game. Stacy Roest at eliteprospects.com is also in that mold, super scout for Tampa.

Alternatively, I’d target someone like Ryan Hardy at eliteprospects.com personally, someone who has built very good junior programs, and is young and could better connect with younger players.

Another interesting option would be a similar route to what Montreal did diving into the agent world for someone very well connected in regarded in that scene.

I’d say Trotz for the role but I want someone younger. Definitely shortlist him to run Coaching or maybe an AGM spot.”

Good luck! This attitude should be a blast with future players deciding whether to commit here.

No, it’s because he is owed 7m for the next 3 years and he is turning 33 and makes almost 9m in actual $ next season. Also, the point is moot because he has a full NTC.

Nelson has 2 years left at 6 aav and plays C- he also makes less actual $ in those 2 years. And there is definitely a market for him this off-season.

The window for this team ended in game 7 2 years ago against TB. I think the sample is now big enough to justify the Isles be sellers. Mgt may want to hold on to the bitter end that this team catches a blinder, but that is more hope than reality when you see how the team has performed in the almost 139 games after being 1 game away from the finals. I want to see what Lou does or does not do. His ID is he won't sell. I would not agree with this approach.

Who'd want Lee and that contract? He'll be a buyout candidate in the end.

Exactly. They can't afford to pay someone to take Lee. If this team is serious about winning, buy him out this summer. Take the money and sign someone who can skate...

again, where is this fantasy player that is signing with us? Yes Lee is overpaid, but we have several others in line not making their salary that should go first.
