Any thoughts on Alexander Edler as a UFA signing as LHD for the 3rd pair? This is assuming he'd take a pay cut and maybe sign for 1 year.

Dekeyser? Murray?
Edler would be a solid option. He's still a good player.

No to Dekeyser and Murray tho.

We do this to ourselves every year. We make these big long lists of ideas of FA's and Trades and when it all goes down, most end up staying where they are or going to 'more desirable' locations than here. Then we're left being relieved we signed Nino Niederreiter and Andy Greene.

OTT blogger speculating that AZ is trying to trade Clayton Keller instead of Chychrun. He mentions an OTT offer of their 7th overall, a 2nd round pick, a prospect and a contract to AZ.

He also mentions some unhappiness on the part of Connor Brown.

I’ve been thinking that AZ would want to move Schmaltz and/or Keller. Both players have long contracts with more money than cap space due.

I’d definitely move futures and Bailey’s contract for Keller. Not as keen on Schmaltz. 13th, Bailey and Bellows with + for Keller is comparable to the Fiala trade. AZ will need Bailey to reach the floor and have a respectable lineup next year.

Exit: Bailey, Beau, 13th, Bellows or Wahlstrom

Enter: Keller, Dunn, Leddy

That would be a great offseason. By itself it wouldn’t move the Islanders into contenders. But no move this offseason will really do so. Islanders become contenders based on Sorokin and Dobson continuing to develop as franchise players. Along with the rest of the lineup (new and current players) hitting the middle to upper end of their ability.

EDIT: Chili, I’m also a fan of Brown too. Would make a great Bailey replacement.

DOUBLE EDIT: Just read that Keller’s season ended with a broken leg injury. That’s always a concern then.

but we want to do something. you can't keep living like this and say "well we won't get so and so" just because. we need to make a splash at some point, even if it is for a guy like Forsberg or gaudreau or even Nino. Give me someone who gives our scoring core more help

We'd better draft that player, because you can't force a free agent to take our money.

Checking other boards:

- Avs may try to sign Nichushkin and Lehkonen, and use Kadri's money to go after one of Copp or Trochek. They likely will let Manson walk and trade Girard for a forward or goalie if they can't resign Kuemper at a reasonable contract.

- Kraken fans are not keen on trading Dunn as he is their best PMD right now and has improved much in his 2nd half. They will need to hang on to him as there is very little available in the UFA market for top-pairing young PMD this summer.

Isles has to be super aggressive and fast in the UFA market this year and should try to land someone still in his prime instead of nearing over the hill. Still, they need to be careful with the term handed out so the contract will not handcuff them down the road to resigning their best players. Isles has too many vets now and need to balance the team with youth and vet. It is a long season and injuries will incur so you need to prepare to have the young players being capable of stepping up and contributing to a successful season.

No matter what trades you make, do not give out the 1st round pick unless it is lottery protected. The league has become too competitive, if you end up having a bad season due to multiple key injuries or underperforming from key players, then you may be in the Bedar sweepstake territory and he looks like an elite future NHL star to me, better than anyone on this team.

Alright so there goes any idea of getting nuke or lehky damnit, and Girard is too damn small also. Isles really need to get something for once, but it all starts and ends at LHD. If we don't improve LHD, we are so screwed

I have (for obvious reasons) Gaudreau and Forsberg are at a whole other level. Followed, by the likes of Copp, Nicushkin and Trochek.

Everyone else I'm pretty meh about. I have no problem with signing Neiderreiter or a similar player. But that would be if circumstance lead it to be a cheap-ish signing. I would care about signing the player as much as I would missing out on the player.
