Maybe Lou does something big, or maybe the summer consists of something like (and just totally making stuff up as an example, not a suggestion):

Beau for Dunn;
Bailey for Connor Brown;
Sign Andrew Copp as UFA;
Sign or trade for a depth LHD (inexpensive vet or maybe that PO Joseph guy they supposedly were scouting).

Keep all the futures.

I would not want Beau traded for Dunn, but I would be on board trying to snag Copp. he would be such a good muck and grind player also, even if it is the same shit once again.

Copp would be the Al Secord if we're trying to replicate the Denis Savard formula for Barzal. Then we'd just need a Steve Larmer. :sarcasm:

Any thoughts on Alexander Edler as a UFA signing as LHD for the 3rd pair? This is assuming he'd take a pay cut and maybe sign for 1 year.

Dekeyser? Murray?

If we don't get Gaudreau, Forsberg, Kadri (realistically no, right?) any of the second tier of forwards a possibility?

Palat
Copp
Reilly Smith
Mikheyev
Trochek
Rackell
Etc.

I know we want to avoid paying $5 million for a 20 goal scorer.. That's the danger with this group, although several of these guys play a good all around game.

I never would've assumed Boeser would be an islander, so that was never happening

i'm noticing a trend and its pretty bad for us
Most players re-sign with their current clubs, and among those to reach UFA many of them already have a deal or destination in mind.

This happens every year so no reason to get your hopes up.

Isles will be looking at the 2nd tier of free agents this year, but there are some interesting players there. Reilly Smith always seems to score against the Isles and would've been a nice acquisition, as would Copp.

Trochek is the only one on the list worth getting. Then there is a big gap to Copp. None of these guys solve the 1st line wing problem. If we can’t get a FA Lou needs to trade for barzys winger. Don’t need more Palmieris. Islanders would lead the league in 50 points players. Not a compliment, it isn’t good enough. I have not heard that Tarasenko rescinded his trade request. Why have we all forgotten him a year later ? Apparently a lot of teams are looking to move big time players. We just need one.

Can’t assume palms and Parise will pick up where they left off. Martin and clutter are a year older. We need to make sure the forward group is better. Not hope it will be. Lou has got to do what he has got to do. You mortgage the future for now. (2) 1st and 2nd rd picks the next 2 years, Bolduc, Dufour, Beauvillier, all available. As long as Isles retain Räty, Holmstrom and Salo I don’t care.

Beauvillier, (2) 1st rd picks, 2nd rd pick and Bolduc or Dufour have to be worth a guy that can help. The 13th overall this year alone is a great asset. Lou has to play the market. A lot of teams are looking to move players like I said. It is a buyers market not a sellers market right now. Just can’t wait forever or lou will lose the upper hand.

We settle for more mediocre and mediocre will be the results. Colorado is the team to beat now. You build to beat them or you die. If Lou can’t do it find someone who can. No other GMs seem to have such a problem.

My problem with this is that I really don't think we are currently contenders, even with a star winger added. To mortgage the future for a piece that would probably get us a first round exit would set the Isles back even further, as our farm system is weak enough as it is. Some of you guys don't want to hear this, but we should be in rebuild mode. Keep the core, dump everyone else for picks or young guys, give our minor league guys a chance and take it from there. I really hope I'm proven wrong on this, but to me, we look old and slow. Keeping the fourth line guys, re-signing Casey and MM was a bad idea. And for us to say, if we just get rid of Bails and Beau, find a solid D man (really 2), find a scorer for Barzy's line, have Pags, Casey and Martin rebound, have Wally blossom, etc etc, are all rainbow aspirations. Blow it up.

That doesn’t make any sense. rebuild - by keeping the core and dumping everyone else? the core just gets another year older with no hopes for playoffs. How is that a rebuild? If you rebuild, you get a new young core. your plan would be a giant waste of time.

Sounds like Lou

I have a hard time imagining that momentum keep building for much longer if Chicago is looking for a package worth more than two 1sts + 'spect.

Edler probably stays out west, Dekeyser's back is toast and Murray is a depth guy. If EDM doesn't re-sign Kulak he'd be a nice under-the-radar grab for a 2nd/3rd pairing role.

Apparently Smith has a handshake deal to remain in Vegas. Maybe NYI can pry someone else from them (Marchessault, Martinez, Pacioretty, etc?).

The rest don't really interest me, I envision about 5 other suitors fitting Trocheck better than NYI.

If Beau is traded for a defenseman, Palat would be a good replacement.

Right, like the time the Rangers were rebuilding and got rid of Mika and Kreider. Oh, wait, no, they didn't.

they all seem to be injury prone . I'd go after Kulak on day 1 , maybe as high as 3.5 m AAV X 5 years .

on paper , Bellows doesnt even have a spot on the roster unless Lambert uses him on the 4th line with Zeeker/Clutter.

Lou thought Chara was a good idea last season but otoh he made some great moves by locking up key players long term so I'm on the fence in regards to his ability to tweak the roster enough to get back into wildcard contention
