Holy overpay
Wait a second, I thought Pageau had negative value?

And 20th overall is a lotto ticket compared to what they gave up for Romanov. Especially when you consider where the drop off apparently is in the 1st round.

Pinto and Holmstrom are the same age, but Pinto plays a premium position and has been more productive with higher upside.

Maybe Ottawa throws in a 3rd or sonething on their end to even out the value a bit, but if Pinto is dangled half the league is going to be in on him…

Are you serious? They are getting good value in the trade for Pinto.

NYI is the one who shouldn't be doing that trade.
They’re getting an expensive downgrade at 3C, a bottom six wing, and a mid first in a weak draft for their troubles. It’s a move of a team kickstarting a rebuild and Ottawa is trying to get out of purgatory.

I wasn’t considering the ‘negative attention’ comment would mean there would be a discount. If anything, I’d be concerned if Lou had an issue with it. It was a stupid mistake.

As for why they would do it? I don’t know, but there was smoke last season. Pinto played last season on his qualifying offer after the suspension because they couldn’t agree to a bridge deal. Any friction from that?

Asset wise? I didn’t put a proposal together, ++ can be adjusted to whatever is realistic.
I don’t think there was any smoke. Ottawa had all the bargaining power after Pinto got suspended and he had to take his lumps. If Pinto is bitter then someone needs to remind him that he cost the team dearly by missing half the season over something stupid.

Saw this on X proposed by a Leafs fan:
Dobson and a 3rd for an extended Marner.
At first I was in the 'No Way' would/should the Isles do this camp. Now, I'm not so sure....
(ignore Cap logistics for now)

No way. Dobson should not be mentioned in any deals. Especially for Marner
Remember Marner is going to want 12M per year, per all the Toronto media. This shouldn't even be considered.

Beyond the Marner discussion, Brady Tkachuk is rumored to be available from a Rutherford quote (which sounds like it may be squashed), but nonetheless. If he was available, would you make Dobson available?

Or is the premium position of RD over LW too much?

I’d love to get Marner but it’s laughable how so many Leaf fans simultaneously trash him but also think he should return a haul for them. A more realistic trade between us and the Leafs would be something like Nelson or Pelech/Pulock + a 1st rounder and maybe a mid round pick or a prospect.

No, I’m not trading Dobson for anything short of a superstar. A winger that score 4 more points than Dobson isn’t that. Brady is a good player, but he isn’t anywhere near as good as his brother.

We have been patient with Dobson for years, he is finally coming into his own, don’t even think about moving him now. Give him an 8 year contract extension and thank the lord we finally have a #1 RHD.

re: Pageau / SJS
He would be a good player for a younger team like SJ but I'd wonder if they are on his 16 team no trade list ; not because of the location but because he would probably want to play for a team that at least has a shot at playoffs/cup run

Anaheim would be a better fit because they are further along in their rebuild and desperately need a center who can win draws.

Most players prioritize being wanted and playing time. A player with a NTC can force the issue, but generally, a players desire is to play. JGP isn’t at the stage of sacrifice for maybe winning in lieu of ice time. He’s still lined up to get another NHL contract after his current deal ends.

This is probably the only player rumored to be on the market I would trade Dobson for.

Why would you trade a 70 point right handed defenseman that is just coming into his own for a 74 point winger?

Dobson will continue to grow defensively. We haven’t had a 70 point defenseman in a long time. You don’t trade players like that for anything less than a superstar player. Sure he sucked in the playoffs, but he was also just coming back from an injury and was run into the ground all season. We need to build the defense around Dobson.

Swiss defenseman andrea glauser who is linked to Isles won best player for team Swiss in the IIHF gold medal game.

Like just one point, but was Josi's partner throughout the tournament.

And they're already at that point where they've got more prospects than they're going to be able to contractually add to the organization.

I could easily see them ready and willing to part with younger pros Vaakainen and Lundestrom as well as one of the unsigned college kids like Harvard captain Ian Moore.

Re. Marner:
- He earns over 10 MM right now.
- He's a UFA in the summer of 25.

Islanders and bidding wars:
- I dunno if there's an available established upgrade out there who the Islanders can win a bidding war for. In other words, if they did, they'd be overpaying. Perhaps drastically.

Yeah, they could shed a Drew Helleson/Noah Warren (RHD) or Tyson Hinds (LHD) and not really miss any of them.

I assume there’s a few more not signed that they just don’t even have room for either.

NYI needs a right shot D prospect…Hutton and most recently Fulp ain’t it.

Anders wins the Clancy. Wonder if he would agree to go to a team like SJ and be a leader there - it’s pretty obvious there’s a changing of the guard here. If we can somehow get him and Pulock to waive (Pulock to WIN) we could theoretically get an entire re-tool done in one season.

Ehlers - Horvat - Barzal
Debrusk - Nelson - Palmieri
Engvall - Pageau - Holmstrom
McLean - Cizikas - Tsyplakov

Romanov - Dobson
Reilly - Mayfield
Pelech - Glauser

Because he is the type of player to change a franchise. Listen, I LOVE Dobson but in this imaginary circumstance there is not a player on this roster I would not trade for him. Florida gave up a haul for his brother and has not regretted it for a single second. For the record Dobson would be the player I would like to trade the least in the entire organization.

Although I think Brady is a good player, he's not the player his brother is. Brady doesn't lift his team like Mathew. Ottawa has a ton of talent yet they are always at the bottom. Mathew came to Florida and changed the culture of the team.
So for that, Brady is not even close for me to trading Dobson.

It’s already unlikely enough that people here expect Pulock to waive his NTC to go somewhere that is well known for being on players NTC lists, but to hope that Lee waives to go to by far the worst team in the league, one that doesn’t expect to compete for another few years? Fantastic.

A reminder. From 2017, but I suspect things haven’t changed much:

To be fair when had Matthew done that for Calgary? They had not had nearly the same level of success playoff wise that Florida has had.

And do people really think that "loyal Lou" is inclined to ask players he signed, and specifically gave those NTC's to, to waive them so they could be traded somewhere else? I guarantee Lou recoils at even asking players to waive them for multiple reasons, but he may be forced to this offseason as the top 6 forwards on this team, as well as Pelech and Pulock, all have some sort of NTC.

Mathew with Calgary - 6 seasons
2016-17 - Made the playoffs his 1st season (wild card)
2018-19 - 1st seed in the west (107 pts) playoffs
2021-22 - 1st seed in the west (111 pts) playoffs

Brady with Ottawa - 6 seasons
No playoffs
