I honestly think about the only way I could stomach the outcome of this is if Dallas pays out the ass (Stank + Bischel + 1st + another prospect) and we turn around and turn that 1st and secondary prospect into Geekie and Marchand coming from Boston. Johnston's not happening.

As the tweet below mentions, the Stars aren't exactly in amazing cap situation going forward. I don't see how they can possibly acquire an extended Rantanen and keep Johnston and Robertson long term. I think if this trade gets done it's one of those 2, we'll obviously want Johnston and they'll want to move Robertson. Although I also suppose a dark horse candidate could be Hintz. He wears an A there and is already locked up to a good deal but I wonder if they can extend Johnston if they would choose the younger C and Robertson over Hintz. I'd be all over an Aho Hintz 1-2 punch up the middle for the next 5-6+ years.

Well short even in a tax state guy is chasing money I guess well have fun in Chicago losing

Not making a counter offer is a complete f*** you by Rantanen and his agent. If that's the case, he's not signing here.
Agreed.
And we should look to unload him for whatever we can get today.
Here I disagree. That should be off the table and the sulky way he's handled this adversity, so should staying.

Accept a sign and trade anywhere, Mikko, or spend the rest of the season and playoffs on your couch and see what that does to your value. You go find your terms anywhere this AM and we'll work out the trade by 3PM.
And then have a serious come to Jesus conversation in the front office about the way we operate, because we can't keep doing this shit over and over again.
This feels like Dundon's fault on Guentzel with his hardball negotiating and Rantanen's on nobody but the big baby (and his agent) himself. (We learned our Guentzel lesson and came out swinging with solid offers. Rantanen's playing games.) You can't fire the owner, so...

Exactly. It's becoming a theme of high profile players just not wanting to be here. We trade for Rantanen and he mopes around and never gives us a shot? And we say Guentzel wanted to be here, but he's not wearing our jersey right now. Trocheck couldn't get out of here fast enough. Pesce didn't return our calls.

At the end of the day, maybe the problem really is our front office, owner or coach.
We had 4 players at the best on best 4 nations tournament, 3 of them are signed long term. I would say the only theme is premadonna players don't want to sign here.

While the Rantanen situation is interesting, if the plan B was to use him to get a C that we would not have been able to get with Necas then I think this would still be a win. I'm not going to go in on our management until after the deadline but they better earn their money today.

I didn't realize how unreal Dallas's center depth is. All these guys are listed as centers.

It was rumoured to be at least stankoven but if it’s somehow Stankoven and Robertson they better go to Rantanen’s apartment and force him to sign that deal

I don't think there's any chance they move Hintz or Johnston. Those are their top 2 centers long-term.

I can see Stankoven with the depth they have at C; maybe I can see Robertson instead of Stankoven as a way for Dallas to afford Rantanen long-term.

I believe the Stankoven rumor was started by a complete nobody and was pure speculation. The Stars are gonna be 100% on top of not letting the return leak out if the trade doesn't happen, and the Canes won't let it leak as that'll ruin any future business with the Stars. Player(s) involved in the trade from Dallas aren't guys they are actively looking to move, just guys they would accept moving for a big dog like Rantanen -- they don't want those guys knowing they're getting dangled as trade bait at all.

Does dregs get off on the canes getting boned or something. His tone is like he is loving this rn
This isn't the NBA, how often do we have a trade saga like this?

Anyway if he really wants to just get paid surely Chicago or someone will offer us something for Rantanen on a 110 mil contract, 14 mil aav. Though I'm mostly team screw it, keep him as a rental and let him walk. I was fine with Dallas when I heard the Canes could be getting long term 2c back, so I don't just want to 86 the man

Like am i crazy or does that tweet make no sense at all. Dallas is willing to go upwards of 12 million but its well short?! im confused?! All these tweets from the insidurss are terrible though
Three teams now thought they could get him to discount with Finns and wins, and three were wrong.

It makes sense. DAL is offering over $12M, but it’s short because Mikko and his agent are f***ing delusional and think he’s worth Draisaitl money.

Definitely makes sense it’s hard to see how they can extend all these guys if they did get rantanen

Stankoven does not make sense for an extended Rantanen. He's really not a fit here and nowhere near enough of a return. We just keep Rantanen as a rental if Stank is the main piece coming back. Random other pick/prospect scraps does not do much for us at all.

per Weekes we offered between 13-14/yr so yeah 12 is well short even with no taxes in TX. Dude is gonna wind up signing with a bottom feeder in the offseason for 15.5/yr and never win again and probably suck the rest of his career.

true but im thinking if he wants 14 and dallas can go over 12 thats not a huge gap to bridge over

Agree , i still think prospects are best bet than a contending team roster player , if rant is traded with orlov to the caps with 2 top prospect and draft picks (i think Wsg would be one of those team to overpay without a Rant resign) , u save at least 5 million with their contract retained , and then you can trade those asset to non playoff teams that are ready to trade core players like Pettersen , i dont want mediorcre players in return which contending teams will offer us , but for this to happens u cannot wait at 2.59 to trade Rant ,

Would we all gain more respect for Rantanen if he signs long term here for $13m/yr at 3:01pm and he and Tulsky have a joint press conference about how this was all their plan to f*** with other teams' deadline plans
No. I want his ass gone.

Less than zero interest in giving him a massive long-term deal at this point. Let someone else make this mistake.
