Hey all:

Haven't posted for about a week which I assume was last thread. Went from day parties at my university campus on Saturday to finding out in the middle of it classes were cancelled and it was time to move home. Been getting settled in and packing and back to my job, so it's been hectic.

I'm assuming you now assume I'm young (18) from my university point there. So this is frightening, but not nearly as bad for me as it can be for some. Just wanted to take a moment to say I hope you are all in good health and safe.

Look forward to talking hockey on here now that I'm settled in to escape from the Twitter world of coronavirus.

I am not really sure where the belief that I do not have any empathy comes from. My debate was with a person who seemed to be implying certain things and making statements regarding the market that are not at all true.

We are all virtually in middle class. Myself included. But being in middle class has nothing to do with making hysterical accusations without a) knowing all of the information first and b) making accusations which in some cases have absolutely no grounding.

I also do not spend a lot of time looking at what other people are doing or selling. I have enough of my own worries.

Please don't feel like I'm attacking you. You are obviously a bright guy, however when you appear to be defending the politicians who may or may not have used knowledge of the outbreak to profit it's not a good look. It reminds me a lot of a conversation I had at a party in East Hampton about 14 years ago when the Enron participants were being sentenced. I had two Wall Street guys telling me "how appalled they were that these guys were being sent to jail for just doing their jobs." My eyes rolled & I quickly found other people to talk to.

For the masses, most of us despise politicians & titans of industry to begin with. They use their privilege & wealth to access & obtain things we can only dream of. Most of us would like to think many of them have achieved these things with hard work, & a little luck along the way. However I don't think we're naive enough to not understand that corruption on those levels runs rampant, so when stuff like this comes to light, the outrage is certainly justified. You may choose to ignore it, but it doesn't make it any less disgusting.

So who would do Lias Andersson for John Tavares? :)
I know you’re joking but I think Tavares is an interesting case. He’s a great player on a TURRBLE contract. Even without a no-trade clause he’s probably nearly unmovable aside from a Lucic-Neal type swap. I wouldn’t move most anyone for him. He might accept a trade to the Rangers but the Rangers would never be able to flip him, for example. And if we’re moving a heavy contract for him, I don’t think I’d want to trade Trouba, for example. Weird and intriguing situation there.

I think that one is much more known than the other. I would expect Strome to be back on a multi year deal.
I’d say this is pretty for-sure. I guess the question is, does he get a two-year deal or a longer-term deal. Rangers probably wouldn’t bridge him. If they can’t come to a mutually-beneficial agreement they’ll trade him. Which would not be good for either party, but worse for Strome. So the logical resolution is a team-friendly five year deal. Or a market value two-year deal.
Is my guess.

In light of the situation I'm not going to argue further. I'm sorry you've been laid off. I wish you the best. Sincerely. Hang in there.
It's all good, I appreciate that. I don't feel that we're arguing. I'm down to discuss whatever but the conversation is tired..

Is anyone willing to throw a first and some other stuff at RNH?

I don’t think any team is going to be doing much wheeling-and-dealing until the current crisis passes. And after it passes I suspect the cap is pretty restrictive. Not a good time to be on the open market, either. Kreider made the right choice in re-signing. Can’t imagine he’d get the contract he got from the Rangers we’re he on the open market this summer. At least not substantially better.

Yeah, and I mean, if I am Toronto and am looking at a 81m cap three year from now — Tavares is easily the guy I would trade.

In that case, if he agrees to a trade, he will pick his destination. 2-3 places? 3-4? 11m per from 29 to 34, he ain’t the best skater to start with.

I am not sure if he has any value to anyone. With that said — I wouldn’t take him for free either. We just can’t afford him.

So you're saying a first and Hajek get it done?

I think the value of first round picks just about doubled, thanks to ol’C-V. For a first the Rangers could probably get just about anyone who’s not elite. But I doubt the Rangers could pay that player. If you ask me, I’d think Strome remains the 2C for another year. If the team is cooking at the next trade deadline they might go shopping for some re-enforcements.

Hoping all my Ranger brother are safe and sound as we all deal with the zombie apocolypse going on all around us.

Like all of you, I'be been so jonesing for some hockey it's not even funny. Man do I miss our young and fun Ranger team.

That said as my wife sleeps in other room, I'm watching on NHL Network the Oilers spanking the Islanders in Game 5 of the '84 Cup finals and it is glorious and I do mean glorious.

For those of my Ranger bros who were around when the f'n Islanders beat us every stinking year on their way to winning their 4 Cups, the Oilers were like a godsend as we all were hoping and praying some team could figure out a way to beat them pukes.

Amazing how many Hall of Famers are playing in this game. You got Gretzky, Messier, Kurrie, Anderson, Coffey and Fuhr for the Oilers and you have Trottier, Bossy, Gillies, Potivin and Billy Smith for the Isles.

Amazing...simply amazing the talent here for both squads!!

So they may as well look to sign their own like Fast during this break no ?
3 x2.75 my guess
With the cap as it is I imagine many players will want one year deals. If Fast wants a long term deal, it maybe be quite a bit lower in aav.

Frozen Four, I would imagine.

Considering that none of the conference tourney's were completed, it's safe to assume that the NCAA won't attempt to re-seed the national tourney from there. But I think, in all technicality, the Frozen Four is "postponed" and not "cancelled" for the time being.

Ok, so we have to wait for it to be officially cancelled before Barron can be signed.

Does it make sense to try and continue developing Howden or should we get what value we can for him before it drops lower? What is the % chance he develops into a really useful 3rd or 4th liner?

I think moving on from Skjei was addition by subtraction, especially since you are getting a first round pick back, one that will most likely be in the teens. You have to take into account that Skjei never really played defense the way you need a top 4 guy to play defense. He was out of position, turnover prone, did not block shots, did not take hits to make plays, did not tie up sticks, did not battle hard in front of the net.

I think that one of the reasons why we've all become such big fans of Lindy is that he does all of the things listed above that Skjei did not. It was refreshing to see. All you have to do, and I'm not suggesting that this is easy, but all you have to do is replace those minutes from Skjei with a guy that does the above.

I do think that the Rangers will have to acquire this player via trade as soon as next season. Unless one of Hajek, Key, or Rykov can take those minutes on, you have to make a trade to acquire that player. What that means is that player replaces one of Staal/Smith, while pushing the other to the third pair. Then you can have one of the kids above replace Staal/Smith on the 3rd pair while playing insulated minutes.
