Would Jackets give up Sillinger in a Kravtsov type deal?

Kravtsov might get you 1/3 of the way there. An 18 year old Sillinger has been more productive in the NHL than a 20 year old Kravtsov was in the AHL.

The only people that think Kravtsov has any type of value is Ranger fans. I dont understand it. He was been extremely underwhelming ever since 2019. Straight up value wise hes probably worth not much more than a 3rd round pick

Nothing is ever guaranteed in this league, especially with how deep the talent pool is and the number of teams that are in contention. I’m not advocating that we throw everything plus the kitchen sink into going for it this year, but you gotta seize the opportunities when you have them.

Something else people fail to realize or acknowledge is the teams that win Cups usually have a track record of falling short in prior years. Playoff experience is almost as important as having the talent and depth on your roster to actually make a Cup run…this whole idea of stockpiling young talent and then miraculously transforming from a rebuild into a Cup winner is a pipe dream. Look at Edmonton and Toronto. Overflowing with talent and absolutely nothing to show for it.

This team needs that experience right now.

I completely agree. There’s something between ignoring the opportunity in front of you and completely wiping out all our prospects for 1 run. And that’s why I wouldn’t want to trade for so many pieces that our young regulars now - Laf, Kakko, Miller, and Schneider would lose out on playoff minutes.

Its the fallacy that, because things arent "perfect" this year the team should continue to rebuild in hopes that the situation becomes "perfect" in the future. Obviously theres no guarantee that happens.

The way i look at it is, we arent waiting for prospects anymore, every young player who will have a major impact on this window has already debuted. The team is also playing well and winning, but relying on a small group of elite stars to do it. Now is the time to sand down the edges of the roster and move out picks and prospects for NHL caliber depth to lengthen the roster.

You can always come up with a million reasons not to do something. Everyone is scared of Carolina but what if they lose in R1? You never know. I personally will be very happy with getting there and winning a round, but theres no reason they cant win it all with Igor playing this way. Cup teams win on the backs of their elite talent and the Rangers have that in spades.

right. It’s not a perfect scenario when you have to stash a top 10 forward on ltir for an entire season, but it obviously worked for Tampa and I don’t think anyone would complain if that’s what it took for the rangers to win a cup. You know Vegas fans aren’t upset about it.

Plus, I’d put a legit wager down on JD not wanting to be in the VK business.

I have heard Maloney say that. Mike McEwen, Lucien DeBlois and Pat Hickey were friends with all of those guys on the team. Especially McEwen and Hickey. Management traded them for Beck. They lost their buddies and management said Beck is the missing piece. I don't really remember those three players on the Rangers. I was very young but I remember some of my family members were annoyed at the trade.

The Islanders acquire McEwen from Colorado and he won Cups with them. That made it even worse.

Beck was a huge disappointment. The fanbase was annoyed at him. The players on the teams didn't hate him but the Rangers traded their buddies for him. Beck was supposed to the Rangers version of Potvin.
Randomly, Barry Beck lived in my neighborhood growing up. Used to see him occasionally and of course his signed picture was hanging in the local diner - which of course is long gone.

This team isn't a move or 2 away from a Cup. This is 2012 in a sense, where we are as a team.

We are 2 years away from really going for it. Say what you want about Sather, but he didn't go all in back in 2012 when a goalie carried us to a top-5 finish in the reg season. The deadline acquisition that year was John Scott for a 5th round pick.
Yep. While I think this team has the talent to go far it doesn’t have the experience. And experience is key in the playoffs. Teams just don’t come out of nowhere to win the cup. In other leagues, that’s possible, but not in the NHL.
If they move real assets, I’d hope it’s for long-term pieces. Hoping they just leverage their cap space and leave it at that.

I think they need to turn some picks and Kravtsov into win-now help. Youd dont have to trade the 1st rounder or Lundkvist now (although in the right deal they are def on the table), but theres clear and obvious ways to improve the team and in a sellers market with the cap space the Rangers have, they HAVE to do something of significance. Even just to show the team, "hey, we believe in you." Which is important for both the young players, and the vets who have gone through the tough times the past few years.

What if we packaged four depth pieces that we mistakenly think have value?

It depends on how deep those depth pieces can dive. Like if we’re talking Blais, Chytil depth… no. If we’re talking McKegg, Gettinger deep… yes.

I agree they can win a round or two but that's their limit this year whether they foolishly buy, reasonably buy, or do nothing.
Yep. Talent wise they’re probably just as good as the washingtons and the Pittsburghs. But they just don’t have the reps playing playoff hockey. I’ll be happy with one series win. And thrilled if they can win a second one.

Playoff experience doesn't matter. The reason teams generally don't go far their first time in the playoffs after missing is because usually those are up and coming teams at the start of their window and aren't as good as the better teams. They're generally lower seeds and underdogs in their series. It's not because they haven't been there before and aren't familiar with it. Yes, there are exceptions of first time playoff teams that were good and disappointed. There always are. The same way there are experienced playoff teams that have also disappointed and had early exits.

Actually, never mind. Just noticed that Sillinger is averaging less than 14 minutes per game so his development has been ruined. Not interested.

Dang, that’s why he’s out producing Lafreniere. He’s at 13:52 a game and Laf is only at 13:42 a game. And he gets to play with people like, idk, Voracek or something once in a while. Nevermind Laf getting 1:18 on the PP per game. Sillinger gets a whole 55 seconds.

According to Friedman, teams don't even fully believe he's coming back to the US next year. Who wants that headache?

Really? I was pretty sure i read the opposite from Friedman. That the consensus was he'd be back before the NHL playoffs start

will go as far as igor takes us in the playoffs. it's deja vu. we have more talent in the top 6 than with henrik. young on the backend. will be fascinating to watch.

signed,
captain obvious

Owen Tippet was just demoted to the AHL. 23 year old former 10th overall pick. He has about 14 points in 42 games this season, similar pace to last year. RW

I'd potentially be interested in Hoglander for sure, but it'd depend on the price. Kravtsov+Lundkvist is probably the starting point though
