I like Rakell as a secondary option. But not for a 2nd round pick AND a prospect like Robertson.

Maybe a 3rd and Pajuniemi. I just dont see there being some huge market for Rakell with his recent drop-off. And quite frankly if someone wants to pay a higher price, then let them. This isnt a guy to pay up for.

Bobhop said no one really wants Kessel. Staple confirmed that today. Phil is available for a mid-round pick and 50% retention.

His sister Amanda is better player right now.
Would you take Kessel for a 5th and 50% retained? Just to have some extra scoring? Or wait this out more to see what else shakes loose.

Not sure blaming only Kravtsov is any better than suggesting it's only Drury who's to blame. This isn't an either/or situation. Kravtsov didn't respond the right way but the situation was created by Drury with his actions leading up to that point. I expect a GM to be better.
Krav, Drury and others all created the situation... I'm not excluding the fact that it could/should have been handled better by Drury, that does not change the fact that ONLY Kravtsov is responsible for Kravtsov's actions. You can say the same about Drury. It just gets ridiculous hearing people pile it on the person who DIDN'T make that decision.
That being said, I'm not one of those people who are burned on Krav. He's still a kid. I say if he wants to come back and be a part of this team, give him a fresh start. I'd love to see him become a star on this team. Hopefully neither Drury nor Krav shits the bed on the next chapter.

You know how we always complain that coaches never say anything but one time our coach did, we hated it?

"Right now Girardi and Klein are just better players than Dylan McIlrath."

Now, that statement wasn't untrue for a number of reasons. One, McIlrath never panned out. More important, AV finally told us straight up what the Rangers thought, even though we kind of knew what they thought. And everyone hated it. I thought that was funny.

Anyway, save yourselves the mental work on justifying what Jones was sent down. The Rangers think Nemeth is a better player.

I'm sorry I'm the one who had to tell you that, but at least I'm not AV.

Should we be worried about this statement?

They invested quite a bit in Nemeth & aren’t really fighting for a playoff spot right so they have some runway to see if he can figure it out before the deadline. They know what they have in jones and it’s good. If Nemeth bounces back from this personal issue, depth D is no longer a need

This.

I've said many times, Kravtsov is to blame here.

But guess what? He doesn't have any control or power. His only decision that he had control over was comply or revolt. He chose the wrong one, granted.

Drury has all the power and is equally to blame. He is the one who had it in his power to come up with a resolution that wasn't the binary "do what I say or get out."

2019:
Drury, GM in Hartford at the time, calls Kravtsov a quitter for exercising his right to go back to the KHL

2021:
March: Comes back from Russia and plays in the NHL without being sent down. Gets 4 points in 20 games to end the season.

May: Gorton, the GM who drafted him, is fired and is replaced by Drury.

July: Drury trades Buchnevich away and it was stated in the media it was in part to give Kakko and Kravtsov more minutes

August: Drury tells Kravtsov to skip prospect camp and report straight to the main team

September: Kravtsov plays well in pre-season, scores some goals but he then suffers a groin injury and isn't invited to a team building event in Rhode Island

October: Kravtsov is assigned to Hartford while Hunt and Gauthier stay with the team

Yeah, I still don't like how Kravtsov responded, but I get it. It may not have been said with words, but I can understand why Kravtsov felt he made the team only to be excluded from a team building event and then being sent down a week later.

Adding Lehkonen-type players is great. But we need to manage our expectations properly. Adding Lehkonen and Kessel isn't making us a contender. We are a step behind CAR/TOR/TBL/PIT/WSH/BOS/FLA at this stage. Don't look at standings, look at play off experience.
This is 100% correct. It doesn't matter WHERE the final standings end up: Rangers are the underdog in every matchup until they get experience. The better money is on any team the Rangers play in the playoffs. In a few years that should change dramatically.

Underdogs win series ALL THE DAMNED TIME. So it has nothing to do with what can happen if we get in the dance.

Anything where we expend real resources should be for the future only. Anything where we send scraps to replace Hunt/Goat/McKegg is perfectly fine and I sure hope they do.

It seems the Rangers aren't very interested in Phil. Staple said they may call on March 21 at 2:50pm if they have struck out on other options and Kessel is available.

With as bad as this season has been in Chicago I wonder if khaira might be available out of there. I know he's hurt right now but he's a player that adds to the bottom 6 and is extremely cheap through next year.

On the bright side, it looks like Barron is back at C between Chytil and Goat. So there's that.

Goodrow back with Rooney and Reaves.
Vince jumped the gun. Bottom-6 lines are

McKegg-Chytil-Gauthier
Goodrow-Rooney-Reaves

I don’t think it needs to be said because it’s so obvious, but playing Greg McKegg on the third line is just an inexcusable decision. You’re purposely making your lineup worse going into a key divisional matchup, and essentially opting to play two 4th lines. Either play Barron or give a 4th to Arizona for Kessel. These decisions by Gallant are getting ridiculous now.

Who is a great player?
I know what you're trying to do, but reaves is a great player for his role. He's been overplayed bc of the lack of depth on the NHL squad and it's shown. He is a terrific 4th liner when he's playing 7-9 mins a game and doing his chip, chase, forecheck grind.

Remember how Fast got nicely w Panarin and Strome ? Gotta find a guy like him
I still don't understand how they let a guy like him go. Now he is on a division rival/competitor. making only 2 million dollars. yes 2 million. and his contract will be done at 31 years of age. Now we are in a search for someone like him

It sounds like no one around the league is really interested in him. He use to be a shooter, not he's a passer. A perimeter passer at that. Those players are a dime a dozen. He will be an emergency option for a team that misses on another target.

You left out the part with a new coach saying he didn’t make the team and Gauthier was the better choice. That wasn’t on Drury and you can’t expect the GM to countermand what his new coach decided before a single regular season game is played.

This is on Kravtsov, not Drury.

Jones & Barron played well in preseason and also got passed over. Didn’t hear a peep from them. And it seems to me that Drury was proven right calling Kravtsov a quitter, because he left twice. Sending him down for conditioning after he was hurt wasn’t an unreasonable request, but he decided to take his ball and go anyway.

They need to trade this kid so we can stop talking about it

The player has to want to sign the contract. There has been plenty of smoke that he didn't want to be in NYC anymore, especially in the midsts of covid at the time. The team can't force him to sign a contract...

Jones and Barron weren't told to skip prospect camp and report to the team straight away. Jones and Barron didn't have a pro option elsewhere. And calling a player a quitter for using his European Assignment Clause is ridiculous. Why did Drury not call Reunanen a quitter when he did the same?
