They just had a thread on this on the trade boards. Buffalo fans were laughing at offers that included ALL of: Fox, DeAngelo, both 2020 firsts, Shesterkin and Chytil. They legitimately think that if Eichel forces the issue and demands a trade, that they will be getting an entire farm system in return AND a comparable center.

They also expressed their view that Panarin and Zib are "not even close" to being as valuable as Eichel.

It was...an interesting read.

That's a McDavid/Lindros package, not an Eichel package.

Yes, and we have said that we need another one of him. So why lump him in with Staal & Smith?

Why would Tampa trade Cirelli?

For Cirelli? Dude’s a 22-year-old shutdown #2C. He’s literally the exact player this team needs.

They have an insane cap crunch and will have to shed a ton of salary in the summer. If they keep all of their RFAs (Sarge, Cirelli and Cernak) they will have to trade at least two of Palat, Killorn and Johnson along with paying through the nose for somone to take Gourde without taking salary back. This is despite them significantly overpaying for Coleman and Goodrow to get cheap players for next year.

Getting somone like Nils who can shore up RD on an ELC will have a lot of value for them, it's actually not a bad idea at all.

That’s the point though: they want to keep him.

Panarin-Cirelli-Fast
Lemieux-Chytil-Kakko

...a man can dream. If Gorton can swing Lundkvist for Cirelli, and thus move Strome, I’d throw a party.

Again, sorry if I was unclear, but my point was that I doubt Tony would be amenable to the originally proposed 8 x $6.5MM, and would instead prefer a shorter deal this summer, because he thinks thereafter (when presumably, in his mind, he’ll have multiple 70+ point seasons under his belt) he will then be able to cash in for the really big money.
If he has multiple 70 point seasons, I'd gladly give him the money. But giving him anything close to the "originally proposed" is nonsensical at this point. IMO, bridge him and then give him the big bucks after all the dead space is cleared (IF he's proven himself).

Hot take alert:

I feel like if Smith accepts a reduced aav extension, one is offered and he stays a Ranger in a utility role.
