and in hand you are saying that team play is enough without elite goaltending by trying to claim i am proving your point somehow by saying neimi won a cup.

you have also consistently discounted the nyr success this year as more or less a by product of the goaltending.

in a cap world there is no perfect team, the bolts of last year might be the closest thing, everyone is going to have deficiencies in some manner. if you dont believe elite goaltending is important than lets trade igor to fill the other parts that you think are more important...
Yes, because Chicago didn't rely on Niemi like the Rangers rely on Igor. Niemi played well, but he wasn't the ONLY reason why the Blackhawks won night in and night out. Put Niemi on this team right now and you think they'd be where they are? They'd be in the dumpster.

I've discounted it because that's what is it. That's what the eye test shows and that's what the underlying numbers back up. If Igor wasn't playing out of his mind the Rangers would thinking about the lottery and not the playoffs. That's not a recipe for long term success and it's not a recipe for winning a championship.

Again, point out where I exactly said "ELITE GOALTENDING ISN'T IMPORTANT". Please do because I can't wait to see it. You're trying to twist my argument into me saying that because yours is failing so badly and every example you give just proves my point. I have consistently said (and please read this CAREFULLY) is that ALONE it is NOT ENOUGH. You're goaltender CANNOT be the sole reason for your success. A big part? Absolutely. But the sole reason like it is now? That team is going nowhere.

Rangers and Predators have history

I would what it would take for Tanner Jeannot and if Nils Lundkvist would be enough. Another big winger for the playoffs wouldn’t hurt. Has some grit and physical style built for the playoffs.

Don't think that would be nearly enough.

Yes, it does. Henrik lost a lot of playoff series that weren't his fault at all, because he had to do everything himself, just like Igor does with this team. He never had the right team in front of him (An argument for another day). This Rangers team is not as good as the Hurricanes, goaltending or no. They don't appear to be as good as the Penguins either. Sorry, but that's the hard truth, supported by the underlying numbers. I don't know how you think a 2 shot period is gonna go over against the Hurricanes but I can assure the answer is not well.

Holy shit. Can we play a playoff series first without the doom and gloom prognosis? If not, can we at least get to the trade deadline where we'll know what we have moving forward? I keep reading about these comparisons to other teams (with comparable records) as though it means something more than what it does. It's the regular season. The Rangers find ways to win. The Rangers clearly have team chemistry and, possibly, the best goaltender in the world, a top 10 center, a top 5 winger, a top 5 defenseman, etc... I mean, things are looking pretty good for a pretty young team taking their first bite at the apple. You have to think that they are going to improve given how young they are. Enjoy watching it. That's the real truth.

Finding ways to win in the regular season =/= Finding ways to win in the playoffs. That's the real truth, too.

Why would Nashville consider moving him? IMO, he's in the Calder conversation. I don't think he wins it, but he deserves some votes.

I'd think he would be a guy Ottawa would sign, but if not yes they should look at him. Gallant had him over the summer at the Worlds.

He won't be cheap though.
That’s the thing with reporters these days. No effort. Where’s the journalist who takes the 2 1/2 hour drive up to Hartford and talk to the players and the coaches and post profile stories and the coaching staff take’s on the players and their development.
Where’s the Chris Drury and the scouting staffs exposé and their takes on where the team is and how they feel how the team’s prospects are developing?
How about a Gorde Murphy interview? Ask him what his take on the wealth of blue line talent in the organization.
None of it. Just the same questions.
Who’s playing in goal tonight?
Who’s playing with Panarin and Strome?
Blah, Blah, Blah…

if anyone wants to be envious, check out Detroit’s Media Coverage.
Hour long interviews with Yzerman.
In depth discussion about the team, the draft and their progress.
Detroit metro population 4.4million
NYC metro population 20 million.
Disappointing.

Okay but we've yet to play a playoff game, so the real truth is that you don't know shit from shinola about how the Rangers are going to perform in the post season. Yet, by your own admission above, the regular season doesn't mean anything and somehow this is what you're basing playoff projections on.

Let's get a round or two under our belt and put the crystal balls away.

Where am I arguing the need?

I feel this is a bit short-sighted though. The team has a clear need right now, and moving forward, on the 3rd line (or another way to put this is they really could use more depth and a swiss-army knife player). They have the ability to add one, who can be around for a while due to being a RFA, that won't cost a ton to acquire (or at least shouldn't) and won't break the bank on his contract. His age fits with this group as well.

See bolded.

Yes, because that's what most people use to make their educated guesses about what's going to happen to a team in the playoffs, which apparently to you is a completely foreign concept that you've never heard of before.

But, you just said that what you're basing it on doesn't matter. I guess you've never heard of logic and conclusions before?

The Ranger could very well get bounced in the first round. They could also ride a red hot goalie to the conference final. We could add 2-3 pieces at the deadline that change this team significantly. How are you going to make an educated guess about the playoff success of this team without knowing what they're going to war with? A: You can't.

Let it happen and enjoy the ride.

What player are they trading for that is going to magically make this team a better 5v5 team.

And while an Eichel-like target would have been option 1 for me, I continue to name names like Lundell and Holloway for a reason.

Neither of those guys are 80-90 point centers. They are well-rounded, defensively responsible support centers who can perhaps project to be solid 1Cs (for Lundell) or 2Cs (for Holloway) when supported by elite wings. Ie, Stepan like. In Lundells case, probably better than Stepan, he's probably more like a 60-70 point center with the wings we have.

Still gotta go get 1 or 2.

My preferred scenario, and I'm just naming archtypes here, not suggesting these particular players, would be, if we can't get an Eichel, to get a Lundell TYPE and a Holloway type very soon. They are, for now, cheap and stashable at positions beside center. You re-sign Strome to a movable contract.

Eventually, Strome is gone. Your center depth is Zibanejad-Lundell-Holloway. Very nice two way play down the middle there.

Even further down the road, Zibanejad transitions to 2C. You now have three very nice centers, none elite, but you are being carried by elite wingers in Kakko and Laf, and very good middle-six wingers like Othmann, Chytil, maybe Krav, etc.

Again, I'm not naming names, more like types.

Those two guys are mid-late firsts. We can't find two hits like that to grow with the team? Poppycock.
I don’t know if aiming for recent first round picks is reasonable. I think it’s more likely that they try to find a Chandler Stephenson type. I think the young, cost controlled types are just not available, unless we’re trading a piece we don’t want to. We’re going to have to find older guys with specific traits that won’t demand huge salaries and that may produce a more than they previously did in our ecosystem.

Not sure if Drury would want to deal with Buff but if he can play the left side maybe they'll go after C. Miller. Maybe even Psysk since he played for GG in FL? Also Butcher could be available, though I think all but Psysk are on IR. I think almost any of them would be better and cheaper than Chairot. Also gives Jones a little more leeway if NYR don't spend crazy on whichever one.

Idk if the Preds would trade Jeannot. Big fan of him though, whenever I catch a Preds game he stands out

Why wouldn't he want to deal with Buffalo?

Any UDFA this season that can step in like a Tanner Jeannot and Yanni Gourde types??? Same type of gritty style of forward.
