The Canucks hired Rachel Doerrie for a hockey analytics role in their front office. She wrote a few articles including one on Chytil for The Athletic a few years ago before joining the Devils front office in a similar role to her current position in Vancouver. Doerrie is/was a big Chytil fan.

The Canucks are reportedly interested in Kravstov. They want to acquire young forwards with skill in the 20-25 age group. Rachel probably has Chytil on her list.

The Vancouver fans want these crazy deals for JT Miller. The Rangers were in a similar position with Yandle in 2015. Yandle was signed through 2015-16. The Rangers acquired him for 2 playoff runs at 50%. Those Ranger teams had played the most playoff games ever without winning a Cup. Lost to Jersey in 2012. Lost to LA in 2014. They had to win in 2015 or 2016. They made the move. The Rangers traded their first in 2016, Duclair(who was talented but he has serious character issues/his draft stock in 2013 dropped. We have seen Duclair jump from team to team in The NHL. The guy has talent but none of these teams trust him enough to make the commitment. The Panthers are his SIXTH NHL team ),John Moore and a 2nd round pick in 2015 for Yandle, Chris Summers and a 4th round pick(2016)/Tarmo Reunanen.

Looking back on that trade. The Rangers didn't pay a huge price for Yandle. Management tried to acquire the Cup before it was time to rebuild.

This team with this group of players is at a different stage. The Rangers didn't have the money to extend Yandle. The Rangers don't have the money to extend Miller with their current commitments. He will be 30 at the end of his contract. The Rangers don't need another long term contract to a player in his 30's.

Smith and Radulov are not options.

Pavelski would cost a fortune even if Dallas decides to sell.

Not many rental options out there for top 6 RW if these guys are off the table.

Vancouver wants a fortune for Miller and the Rangers can only afford him for one year if Vancouver retains. It'll cost Nils for Vancouver to retain next year. That's not a good use of Nils as a trade chip. I want a player with team control for more than one year after this one for any of the top Rangers prospects.

Kessel? Pass.

Jarnkrok would be a good acquisition for a middle six spot. Swiss army knife player that can play all three forward positions. Gallant would love him. Extend him if he'll take a short deal.

As unlikely as it may have been earlier this year, Vitaly Kravtsov may be the best option for a deadline acquisition for a top 9 RW spot. The player has no long term future here. Let him build up his value for the summer. Quid pro quo. The better he plays the easier it will be for the Rangers to find a place for him to play next year. Both parties benefit if he plays well.

Othmann has a top 9 RW spot to lose coming into camp next year.

I wouldn't sleep on Will Cuylle making the team next season.

NYR are going to be filling out the roster with close t0 league minimum contracts and Cuylle won't require big minutes to develop well.
Only question is whether he can fit on the right wing- or if we have to shift Blais or Hunt over there.

An ideal deadline to me would involve stabilizing the 3rd line. Ideally with two players, along with either Goodrow or Kakko. Copp and Lehkonen would be perfect.

Next priority would be upgrading 3rd pair LD. Has to be able to PK. Would feel a lot better with Nemeth as next man up than a nightly fixture. I would like de Haan here.
Jarnkrok and Lehkonen are the guys I pay mid round picks and B prospects to beef up the depth this deadline.

With Smith and Radulov not looking like feasible options, I'm willing to go smaller at the deadline and acquire a couple of depth pieces and wait to make the big trade over the summer.

Miller's price is going to be through the roof now with Smith off the market. The only way I pay is if he's extended beyond next year for 4 to 5 years. No more than that.

What the hell did Goat do to Carp?

Anything less than banging his wife, Carp deserves a smack in the teeth.

Like it but what do Copp and Lehkonnen cost? Lehkonen is also a 2.3 RFA, we don’t have 3rd line room for that next year as sad as it sounds.

It's a good question that I am not sure I have a good answer to, and admittedly I was thinking more short-term, players who could be available that I think would fit well. I could see the argument for dealing Chytil either in these deals or in a separate deal for picks if shedding his cap allows one of the two to be extended.

Rangers need 2 players that are good on the 3rd line and are good enough to fill in for a top 6 role on the fly.
