The problem with Pavelski is that he gets most of his points on the power play. Not a NYR need.

I would much rather bring in a player who excels at 5X5.

You aren't getting Hintz out of Dallas without a crowbar.

Trade Panarin in the off season. :sarcasm:
  • $11.5 m freed up.
  • Use ammo from Panarin trade + own stock as needed, as crowbar to pry Hintz out of Dallas
  • The team gets more balanced with 1+2 C sorted + cap space to plug holes on RW, 3rd line and LD (Chychrun?). Kreider stays.
Easy. All the pieces fall in place, also long term.

It surprised me too when I looked it up. When I picture him scoring, it's always a high tip on the powerplay.

The Robertson-Hintz-Pavelski line is nuts. They all complement each other so well. Must suck for Dallas that Pavelski is closing in on 40. Hintz was slow out of the gates after surgery in the summer but he's back on track again now.

It seems like people are really split between going for it, vs getting rid of high priced contracts (ie, Kreider), etc..Even the FO gives mixed messages to me. "Lets clean house, trade for picks and rebuild, but we need to sign Panarin, Kreider, Zib, Trouba, and now maybe Strome and vets from other teams through trades to prepare for the playoffs." It's like a "commitment" tug of war. "Yes we want to start over, but we also want a cup now!" But I guess anyone who goes out and gets a Panarin, is making a statement that they want to win sooner than later.

Kessel can hardly skate. Not the best defensive player. Is he the right move? I know he can still shoot the puck.

No, he’s definitely not. He’s not going to help the 5v5 scoring situation and he’s not going to help with the tougher to play against identity of resiliency. If we want to set PP records, we ought to consider it.

The Rangers aren't in playoff position right now without Kreider on the roster.

Which is more of an indictment than an endorsement.

Kreider has been unreal this year. Maybe he doe this for two or three more years, but if he was traditional or reverts next year to traditional Kreider we are right back in the wheel house that Gorts decided to scorch earth.

Shesty has alot to do with it as well this season and you can't discount Trouba living up to his billing under Gallants system/tutelage, but your sentiment is accurate. Regardless of our record, we are still in the Cinderella tier. The eye test is crystal clear on that fact.

We… Never… had… the… opportunity… to… OMFGJaCKHugHESisBetTErTHaNKaKKO!!1!
If only we had Hughes and his pretty face, we could trade him to Vancouver because they have women in the front office. Or is it because his brother is there?

threeway trade?

Devils get Chytil, Kravtsov, Lundqvist, 1st+. Rangers get EP. Vanc gets Hughes #2

It's happy hour at work. Shutup.

Can we easily pencil in $4.1M for Kakko? Because at that point, the compensation is just a second round pick. I know the NHL is kind of a...mafia? but that offer sheet makes a ton of sense for a lot of teams, and it hasn't exactly went great for Kakko here, like if I was him I wouldn't turn down more money to stay

Phil Kessel feels like it would be Petr Sykora all over again. Scores in the regular season and then completely disappears in the playoffs. Sykora had 0 points and was a -5 in the 06 playoffs.

I want an impact player when it will count most. At this juncture of his career I dont see that with Kessel. Has SC’s on the resume, but that was then, this is now.

Everyone was -5 with 0 points in the '06 playoffs.

I don't see why we would expect Kessel, who has 81 points in 96 career playoff games and led his team in scoring in a Stanley Cup victory, to collapse in the playoffs.

I just don't understand this fascination with Dryden Hunt in the top six. He hasn't scored a goal since December 1st. He has three points total in his last 20 games. There are literally at least 4 or 5 players who should slot there before him. And he's not really some defensive wizard, either. He's a Dickensian poor man's Jesper Fast who hits a bit more.

nope, that's not my job
i am not pushing people to justify or validate their expectations,
and altho i shared, i don't care if anyone buys mine

we'll see what happens

You said:

“i thoroughly doubt the "next to no value" premise
been watching too NHL closely for far too long,
we shall see”

You’ve been watching the NHL so closely for so long that not a single example pops in your head. Got it.

That being said, if Georgiev ends up being moved it’ll be in a package. He has no value otherwise. We will see.

They are rebuilding and doing it within a winning culture. I think its the right move. Look at the perpetual bottom feeders theyre culture is losing.. Buffalo, Edmonton, etc. Its very hard to have a culture change in a losing environment.

I don't really love Goodrow in that slot either, but boy can he deflect that biscuit. He and Kreider are experts in the field of tip in's!

I have been thinking about this a lot and Kessel can make sense for the Rangers. They could bribe Arizona saying they dont have to retain, and allowing Arizona to use that spot on a different contract could help the Rangers get Kessel for a brilliant price.

The thing with Kessel is this. Strome and Panarin are going to ignore everyone else on the ice and play their pond hockey cycle. Kessel just finding the apex of the play and shooting in open ice is all we need out of him.
