You mean by taking on that contract from the Kings before HE decided to sign with a team giving him over 18 minutes a night to up his value?

Between that and signing with the Habs, anyone could have had him.

Hes proven himself to be still somewhat useful but he wasn't exactly setting the world on fire in Montreal. Anyway they're different players and Fast does all the things that the old boys' club loves.

Also, it’s not like Kovalchuk’s time in Montreal was so amazing. He started hot, but ended up with 13 points in 22 games. Prorates to 48 in 82. And he’s a completely one dimensional player. There are arguments for why Fast would be the more valuable.

You know what’s crazy? This is going to be only the 4th NHL post season Kovalchuk has ever played in.

Kovalchuk is being paid by more teams than he's played in post seasons.

Do you have a link with a list of names? I feel like i'm good with numbers but I have no idea who everyone's eleventh best eligible player is or whatever. I do think a lot of VGK's success came from the absolutely hilarious Florida Panthers move, which would be talked about nonstop if it was like a Canadian team or us
Like around the league? No. I just meant the Rangers players. Doesn't look like expansion will be a huge inconvenience.

If a third is the best the Rangers can get then he should be a self rental.

Given that he should command much less per year and much less term, and if Kreider is traded, might make sense to re-sign Fast.

Other clubs were interested in him, but he went somewhere he'd play top-line minutes. Played almost 19 minutes per night there. When he decided to sign, was he going to get that with BOS, WSH, PIT? Probably not. How the Isles didn't do this I have no idea. I guess Lou is hours into his deep sleep.

Do you hear names? If you can't say, it's understandable. I'd assume the usual suspects in Toronto with Nylander and Kapanen. Calgary has been eyeing us from across the dancefloor for years and this is the most intriguing off season scenario for me. My irrational fan side says Johnny Hockey is available. But there is probably a more obvious name like Bennett.

I don't think so yet. Posted about this without mentioning CGY a couple of weeks back. I think they will start by moving out some secondary pieces before moving a core player.

The question CGY is asking is: can you win with these guys?

But during the off season I can see CGY, NSH both making some major hockey trades.

I still have found memories of that series against the Thrashers in 06-07 and Kovy being a complete non factor/getting thrown of his game by Avery

^^^^^^^^^ Everything he said.

No sources, but the writing is on the wall there, especially with Nashville.

Turning an expiring asset who really is a middle sixer into Jost would be a decent deal.

Seems like everyone is expecting a 3rd but hoping for a 2nd rounder for Quickie.

Dominic Moore returned a 2nd round pick at least twice. Fast isn't a center, but they have similar skill sets and production.

If Fast doesn't get us a 2nd, we might as well keep him for the playoff push.

There are some bigger names out there, just not sure if they are deadline deals.

Dallas - Robertson would be a player the Rangers would push for.

Colorado - Jost is still part of that mix.

St. Louis - don’t have a good handle on names. But there is chatter they’d pay a premium to defend.
I was thinking of the off season as opposed to the deadline but I appreciate those nuggets. But there will be lots of time to discuss the next phase of building. Thanks as always.

Sorry if this was posted earlier.

I know some have speculated that AA might be a guy that could fill part of the void left by Kreider. Not a huge fan personally, but something to talk about.

AA worries me, both based on what it might cost to acquire him, and how much he's going to want on his next contract, coming off a bad year. He's making 3 mil now and I don't even want to pay him that much. I'd rather look to fill the spot with a younger/cheaper player. Or barring that, and assuming we can make the cap work, a better player.
