Do the Rangers still owe on Girardi’s buyout? Can that cap hit be traded? It’s not much but could make a difference for the Rangers.

Yes to the first, no to the second. Buyout cap hits and retained cap hits cannot be traded. It's only $1,111,111 next year (and the 2 years after).

With the Rangers latest surge, is part of the return the possibility of playoff experience for the youngsters by limiting trade partners to only Western Conf teams?

Jost is quite underperforming in Colorado, but he's also been pushed down the chain until recently. Kadri got the 2C spot, Compher took that spot, not him. Bellemare is currently ahead of him on the depth chart and has better production.

Yes, he's 21 and he can improve, but I would want a much better prospect than whoever that was if that's the deal.

Also, I could see Colorado adding a center before Kreider. Even with Rantanen being out, they have an abundance of wingers producing well.

Dallas does seem like the team that need a winger boost. They ran Perry with Seguin and Benn today. Perry is pretty much so toast too.

Feels like that's the trading partner. Fishies are not an option, and Carolina has shifted gears probably to a goalie or a defender with injuries.

Eastern teams should be paying more considering they’re also getting the added benefit of hamstringing the Rangers who are knocking on the playoff door. I’m sure Florida, Toronto, Carolina would be thrilled if CK went out west.

Hayes deal was in a buyer's market tho. Sellers have been making a killing so far at this deadline.

I think teams are seeing the Cup as much more open without a 62-win team in the mix.
I’d love more but I think it’s a realistic return. Feel like maybe the expectations of the return have gotten a bit out of wack

Am I the only one that would be content with a hypothetical deal of 1st + Jost?
I’d be fine with it. Not jumping out of my chair happy, but fine

I'd say if Kreider is a little better than Hayes, Jost is a little better than Lemieux. Those two are both good acquisitions in trades like this because they're basically locks to have long NHL careers and we still don't look great at developing bottom six (maybe the new Hartford crew will help)
