Speculation: Roster Building Thread XXXV: Calm Before the Storm

I don't hate him, I just think we overpaid by at least 1 mil. And we are looking to have cap issues. And our window to trade him is this year. Nothing personal. Obviously, if we can, we should trade Lundqvist, Staal, Smith.
 
Rangers have 3 quality RHD if they keep Tony D. They're not gonna trade them unless its like a hockey trade for maybe a LHD, Trouba wont be that guy

This is true; but if I had to deduce why I'd take an educated guess and say it is because the Rangers are clearly in the driver's seat this deadline when it comes to the market

Kreider is far and away not just the best rental available, but the best player available that falls into the likely to be moved category. Teams need goalies too, and the Rangers are for sure still fielding calls on Georgiev and likely at least getting questions about Lundqvist.

That said, we know from experience that Gorton runs and incredibly tight lipped ship.

Thus, the time of the deadline that we control inherently becomes tight lipped as well
 
Honestly, Trouba has been a positive surprise for me. Better than expected. JMHO. See nothing wrong with his game whatsoever.

From experience many don’t agree with me on defenders. I think the Pionk hate was WAY overblown. Heck I even think Shatty took too much heat at times, he was just a D that couldn’t be used out of his comfort zone and with TDA and Fox it was the right call to buy him out.

He was pretty bad last night so maybe its a what have you done for me kinda thing.. its also his first season in NY, He does need to put up more points however which I think will come as he gets more acclimated to NY and his teammates

Yeah it’s schizo.

Feels like the last several years, the big moves where done in advance and when we came to the deadline most action had already taken place. So far we only got a few Ds dealt for depth picks mostly.

I don't follow them or Detroit as much as I do the Rangers but I know that Jost should not be the player that Gorton should target when trading Kreider. There's a reason why he and Kamanev (who is also made out of glass) are the first ones mentioned in trade rumors.
If its Kreider and Kreider alone going to Colorado then Gorton should be targeting prospects like Bowers, Kaut and Beaucage along with their 2020 1st and some conditional picks since Newhook and Byram aren't on the table. Jost and Kamanev should be considered throw ins. They would serve no purpose other than filler for Hartford... when they're healthy.

Because most normal GMs don't wait till the last minute to make a deal to improve their team. That is why we are likely getting into a Tavares situation. Kreider will sign with Boston or Philly.
 
One thing that has been floated by reporters that I think makes a ton of sense to expect in a Kreider trade is a conditional pick that becomes a 1st if he re-signs with the team he was traded to. The Rangers will want him to get to free agency in order to make their bid and allow him to weigh it against the market with full knowledge; and a conditional pick like that forces the hand of the acquiring to team to much more likely than not let him go to free agency. Something like a 3rd round pick that becomes a 1st if he re-signs.
